Morning all, SOMETHING OLD SOMETHING NEW SOMETHING BORROWED SOMETHING BLUE AND A SILVER SIXPENCE FOR YOUR SHOE!
I am aware that probably no one can answer this as it's very personal but might get some ideas anyway :-)
I am partly superstitious - not overly but I like to incorporate this saying.
Trouble is I am stuck on the borrowed bit. Something old will be my bracelet, something new my headpiece (which I'll make myself but from new material - does that count? :-)), something blue will be my shoes or my necklace. Stuck on tge borrowing! I don't want to wear earrings but that would be the option I can think of.
What are you having for each?

My mum is lending me her engagement ring - its beautiful - it could count for old and blue too but I have those sorted! Its the one thing my dad did get right in their relationship lol

Hm... I have my heart set on a choice if 2 necklaces but will very much go for a custom made one that says Mrs. ....
I haven't worn rings in a good 15 years because I hated the feeling of rings - until my engagement I ofc wear my ring and last march my nan died and I inherited her most treasured ring with the family seal. I LOVE both my rings dearly but as soon as I get home I have to take them off :-) I really don't like wearing rings very much. :-)

Is there a brooch or something you can attach to your dress? Or alternatively my mum gave my nan a little angel a long time ago and i was going to attach it to my garter - what ever you chose doesnt have to be seen :)

i borrowed a lace handkerchief from my mum and kept it in my handbag. She kept saying 'it's fine you can keep it' and I had to try really hard and practically force her to take it back!
Vegas baby!

Erm.... could you not borrow some perfume from somebody, if your worried about your headpiece not counting as new, use your dress as the new thing, I did when i got married the first time. x

I don't want a garter - brooch is always good but not sure who I could borrow off a brooch I like.
That's an idea the hankerchief!

I was always impressed by my mums dress - she went to fashion school and got married in her last year - she designed her dress and her class mates sewed it for her as a wedding gift - her something blue was a blue thread somewhere invisible sewn in. I always loved this story!

My dress isn't new :-) New to me though.
I am picky with perfume - I don't like perfume very much and if I use it only an approved one which is my own :-) I am terrible with my started threads - everyone has great ideas and I always say no :-)

I am borrowing my friends veil. I got my own tiara but the veil is borrowed. Something old will be my mums engagement ring that i never take off. Something new will be pretty much everything else Something blue is a small blue bow on the side of my personalised garter.

I'm borrowing my Mum's small white bible that she used at her own wedding.

There are loads of these threads so if you do a search you may get some more ideas. My borrowed is a lace hankerchief from my nan that will be placed in my garter and also a broach to add on the lace part of my bouquet.

get a friend to buy some knickers and borrow those
That's a bit weird :-) Not sure if I'd want knickers back and if I keep them it's not borrowed :-)
I do like the idea of sewing something into a hidden place.

haha brill but I agree, a tad icky. Unless she just took them back and put them in the bin and then technically it is still borrowing. A bit of messing around tho. Funny idea haha!

Do you know anyone who'll have a silver sixpence?! Maybe you could borrow that and it'll even complete the rhyme too!

I was planning to get a sixpence from 1929 the year my nan was born.
My bouquet is very much thought through - I am not opposed to attaching something - but not anything.

Reading your comments made me think that I normally don't like my friends stuff (that sounds awful - I mean it's just not me) and then I was thinking of the few people I know who's stuff I love - and it gave me an idea! A friend has a vintage shop - my fave shop in town - I might ask her if I can borrow white gloves from her stock! Though no I was going to buy them because I need them anyway... Ok next thought.... :-)

I've borrowed a friend's tiara - maybe you could borrow a veil or a pair of gloves? or a handbag maybe? I don't have my something old or something blue yet but Mum is implying she will give me some jewellery as my something old, only prob is hers is all yellow gold, jade and most probably really chunky so we have different styles, so who knows what it'll be!
CommentAuthorLittleMissBossy
I'm making my veil and my handbag (though that might be a great idea in case I don't get to finish it) and the gloves I want to buy because I actually need them for other occassions.

What about a book of poetry for a reading? I know it won't be on you, but will be used in the ceremony and is a bit different? Or you say you're making your veil and handbag- you could borrow a brooch from you friend's shop and incorporate that into it... failing that a lipstick or something would work.... xxx
Can't wait until the 14th July 2012!

Both possible readings are from 2 of MY books which I currently gave to mil to choose one :-)))
Borrowing a brooch from this shop or a handbag is a great idea. I have so many brooches - just got another 'batch' from my nan who passed away this year - I actually want to wear one of those close to my heart but I am liking the handbag idea more and more.
I love my mascara - totally obsessed with it :-))

I've taken the bow off my mum's dress and putting around the stem of my bouquet for my something old but maybe you could borrow a ribbon or something similar? Or borrow a pendant or earring and put it into your bouquet or sew it into your dress?!? I like the sixpence from your nan's bday.

That sounds lovely - the bow from your mums dress!
My aunt got married 86 - I was a flower girl and she had a HUGE bow on her bum well above the bum :-) I just had this vision to borrow it - but I want my own bow and not to give it back! Ha ha ha But this is an idea - my aunt has always been bow obsessed and so have I - maybe I can borrow a bow related item off her. I do like the idea to borrow off someone who means something to you.

Did she have a smaller bow or any ruffles on her dress that you could borrow and just give back? Or use her bow on your dress as your something old?

my new is my shoes my blue is my garter.......will need to borrow something and have something old?!?!?!?! hmmm not sure although im liking some of the suggestions like borring perfurme etc....i think the best thing littlemissbossy would be to hid a blue stick in somewere or maybe go to a crfat shope by a very small ribbon bow and attach it somewere like just under the hem of your skirt.
CommentAuthorAnnette
I don't have something old yet, almost everything is new lol, nothing borrowed, and my jewelry and shoes have blue in them...and I've got a silver sixpence. I wanted to borrow something off someone in my family, but I haven't gotten around to asking them yet. I think it might be nice to borrow/get something off my mom from when she got married as my something old. My grandmother has loads of nice jewelery so I might borrow something from her.
Breathe in, breathe out...

The blue is not my problem - I have blue shoes, very much likely a blue necklace and 1 blue flower in my bouquet. :-)
What to borrow that's the hard bit.
