I get married in September next year but yesterday I decided to go out with my bridesmaid and try on a few dresses.
I went to the local outlet store just because I didnt need an appointment, I just wanted to try on different shapes to see what sited me.
I always imagined I'd have a bit poofy skirt with a bustier but they looked odd on me. I tried on four that I had picked and they where all just wrong but the lady disappeared for ten minutes and came back with an A-line number. In all honesty I dont like A-LINE DRESSES/SKIRTS ETC they remind me of my nan but she just said 'trust me' and slipped it over my head.
    It was absolutely stunning.
I didnt like the dress per say but the shape made me look slim and skimmed just over my hips and had a beautiful train. In the picture you can see it in the top two pics.

I've heard off other people that you just know when you've found the dress, is that true? I wanted to feel all emotional but because it wasn't right I didnt feel like I thought I would. Or am I just romancing the idea?

The top dress looks much more flattering on you, so I would suggest trying a few more on in that style and see if you fall in love with it.

The shape is lovely on you, at least you have more of an idea what does and doesn't suit you now. I went dress shopping for the first time on Saturday and actually found my dress.. it wasn't as much of an emotional experience as I had imagined and I didn't get the whole 'OMG this is THE one!!!!!' feeling, although I did know it was the one. I tried on lots of different styles but my heart just kept going back to this certain one, so I just went with my gut instinct xx

    Thanks ladies.
And thanks Flossie for being honest!
I have the image of me sobbing finding 'the one' as apposed to just a shopping day but i think its probably wrong of me to build up my hopes for the moment. Lol.
    Am i making sense...

Definitely makes sense! I had images of my mum getting all emotional seeing me in 'the' dress but it just didn't happen like that. It was still a great and special experience but I think I'd been watching too many films and reading too many stories haha xx

Love the top dress, definitely a flattering shape on you :)

I had a similar experience with the first shop I went to, narrowed down the shape straight away and tried on loads but didn't find one that made me feel anything. The next shop I went to, the first dress I put on, I knew. And I didn't cry, I sort of panicked. Lol. Carried on trying on 3 or 4 other dresses, but they all just paled in comparison.

I think it's true that when you know, you know, but that doesn't mean that you'll cry, or scream, or... do anything. And now that you've narrowed down the shape, you can always start looking online and see if you like detailed or plain dresses, lace or satin etc etc. and of course try some more on. :) xx

There's no need to sob when you've found the one, it's just how you feel about it, like how flossie was. I never sobbed.

my mom cried when I tried by dress on. I didn't. it was more a feeling of I love this and theres nothing I would change. all other dresses I was picking faults with but that one was perfect how it was. I then suddenly get very frightened as I wasn't planning on buying and started to think am I sure. is it really the right one. its 2 years before but then whenever I looked in the mirror I beamed with happiness.

it was when I put a veil on that I made the final decision that it was perfect and I was buying it. that just made me feel ready to get married :)

My mum asked me what would I change about it.. and I couldn't come up with anything. So that's when I realised it was the one. Like Emily, when I put a veil on with it as well, I just knew it was the one xx

I've seen programmes on television that some are unsure about the dress until the veil go on. Then they fall in love and see it totally different

for me it wasn't changing the dress. It more made the outfit complete. the veil I wanted would have looked silly and I ended up with a sparkley one I would have hated but it was perfect for the dress and made me feel like a bride.

I loved the dress before but it was perfect with the veil

I know what you mean Emily. I was never sure if I'd have a veil as just didn't know if it would be 'me', but the lady pulled out a cathedral length with lace detail all around the edge that just complemented my dress so well. It did complete it x

that's the style I wanted with the lace edging but it didn't suit my dress. I wanted it that badly I almost bought it before the dress.

mine is completely plain with random gems dotted on it makes my dress sparkle :)

Try the dress with a fishtail petticoat. Mine is an aline and fishtail pettitcoat kicks it away from.your legs without poofing it out too much!
Also try a few veils :-)

    I think top ones r lovely on u. X

Thanks ladies ive enjoyed sitting back after work with a nice cup of tea reading your posts.
I tried a veil on whilst i was waiting to be seen... Both my friend and me went 'awwww' which is so unlike her... Id love a veil but i think it depends on the dress. Especially if i could hand it down to my daughter one day.
I know veils arent the most 'current' trend vut i felw wonderful wearing it...and i was wearing jeans at the time :')

I found the same the process felt more stressful than exciting until I put my dress on. Nothing to do with the shop as the lady was amazing and the experience was fab, the only reason I think it wasn't as I imagined was because I thought I would love them all and be stuck for chose and also the style I thought I loved didn't suit me at all!
I didn't get the "tears ect" but once it was on it fitted perfect then I kept selling it to myself so knew it was the one. Xx

I didn't get emotional with mine either, and I didn't feel certain straight away. I showed the picture to a friend who agreed that it was the right one, and then tried it one again. The clincher was when there was a sample being sold off in the right colour and only two sizes too big (so not too expensive to alter). I would try that one on again and try on others as well. It's always worth trusting the ladies in the shop, they know what they're doing.

I had a similar experience! I though I wanted an A-line dress with straps and lace. I have fell in love with a princess line dress with no stamps a sweet hart neck like and no lace lol! I just think if you love it and feel great in it then it's you dress. I didn't cry when I got my dress but I couldbt stop smilin. My mum cryed though so we default knew it was the one. X

With regards to your dress, the A-line definaitly suits you better. Try on more of that shaped gown.

As for the feeling of 'the one' I have been engaged twice. I found my first dress and the feeling was just that I didn't want to take it off. I couldn't stop touching it, all of the detail and looking at how gorgeous the train was, how the material felt, how it flattered me, how Good I felt etc. I wasn't emotional but I knew that was the dress. That relationship ended and I still had the dress. I met my now h2b and still loved my dress so knew I had a challenge to find something that made me feel like that dress did. when I did find it I got a littl ebit teary because I was so sure that nothing would match up and I had made sure my h2b knew that if nothing made me feel like that dress did I was wearing it. So to know I found something else just for him made me a little emotional but I wasn't a bubbling mess. You will know when you put the dress. You may get emotional you may not but you will just get the feelin gof it's time to stop looking xx

the a line looks lovely on you. I didnt have that feeling and didnt cry either but was just happy and twirling round in it and knew i would be happy getting married in it. Also since i have bought the dress i then had second thoughts but was ok when tried it on again. have also been told that this is quite common x
