Hi I found a dress online that I really liked. Contacted so many bridal shops but none of them stock that particular dress. I tried on a very similar dress and it did suit me, the bridal shop said they could order the dress I saw online in for me but I'td be a risk as I'd be buying blind Sorr of. Just wondering if anyone has done anything similar. I really do like the dress and am very tempted to just do it.

I definitely wouldn't buy a dress blind.. I would have to try it on before I committed, even if I did try on a similar style and it suited me. Can the shop, or another shop, not order it in for you to try rather than commit to buy? I've seen lots of people do this for only a small fee? xx

No way, it's too risky, I'd want to try it on first if there's no way of returning it for refund.

too much money to risk it i'd say. even if you have to travel to try it on and then order it I would definitely do that.

make a day of it with your ladies. or do as flossie says and ask if they can order it for you to try

I wouldn't risk it myself. It may look like the perfect dress but my experience is that the ones that look perfect don't look perfect on, and the ones that don't look great on the hanger look lush on - I think you need to try it on ideally before you commit to anything! xxxx

risky especially if your paying full price for it and not getting one online for a cheaper price. could you contact the designer and ask where has it in stock x

I ordered my dress online without trying it on from a designer who's based in Brighton. She doesn't have a studio you can visit and isn't stocked in bridal boutiques. I just felt like the style would be perfect for me and couldn't find anything else in the shops that could compare.

I eventually tracked the dressmaker down at a wedding fayre and tried on a sample version of my dress. Even though the sample was four sizes too big (my poor bestwoman had to hold it together at the back so I could try and imagine what my dress would look like!), I'm still confident it's the dress for me.

HOWEVER - if I was doing this again, I would not order online without trying it on.

My dress is due to arrive in the next couple of weeks and it won't be until then that I can be 100% certain I've bought the right thing. When it's such an important dress that you're spending hundreds and hundreds of pounds on, it's just not worth taking the risk. Even though my dress will probably be just as I imagined my advice to you would be don't do what I've done - all the energy I've put into worrying about the dress could have been better focussed on other bits of wedding planning.

I ordered my dress without trying it on, I fell in love with it through pictures, the shop did not stock it, they'd never seen it until it came in. Fortunately I was lucky though,

There's no way I would order a dress without trying it first. I've tried dresses that appear very similar to look at but actually seem totally different when on. X

Thank you for everyone that replied. Went to the shop that had similar with my mum, the lady in the shop pulled out a 'wild card' and I absolutely fell in love tears and everything which I didn't think would actually happen. So pleased I didn't buy without trying on as now I defintely know I have the right one now.
