So my lovely fiance proposed to me on holiday on September the 22nd and we choose a ring together, its currently being made and is due to arrive at the end of this week- very excited and a bit nervous too!
We have decided to get married in early May next year, keeping costs to a reasonable budget but still having our dream day. Now i have yet to organise anything at all! We live in Buckinghamshire but actually are thinking of getting married in Scotland. I am keen to the book the venue as soon as we can to allow our guests as much notice as possible. Work have randomly decided to send me to Scotland tomorrow and i am booked in to see a venue in the morning. All very exciting and i think its fate that work decided to change my schedule to include Scotland. Any advice and tips will be very welcome as i have rather a lot to do!
I'm currently putting off dress shopping until i have my engagement ring (im currently wearing my placeholder ring as my fiance calls it!) and also the venue sorted!

That sounds exciting. That's amazing that you can combine venue hunting with a work trip. Don't leave the dress shopping too long, they can take a while to come in.

Congrats! Planning in 7 months will be tough but also very fun! Good lck with the venue, how lucky about your work trip! I'm in Berlin for work and got shown a beautiful building yesterday known to hold weddings due to its sweeping staircase. Bit late now though!

Nikki- aww you aren't a brat the engagement ring is the nicest piece of jewellery a girl gets to own! My h2b looked at rings but knew he would always let me choose as he knew I'd want something a little unique and didn't want to get it wrong. If was great selecting together and choosing the exact diamond we liked. With his input I ended up with something I wouldn't have chosen if you had asked me a month ago but that I just fell in love with! Friday should be ring day, it's been hard having to wait the three weeks for it to be made! But I am one lucky girl!
Mrsk2be - I love Berlin, freezing in winter but there is nothing like a Christmas market to get you into the festive mood (on work time of course) hehe! The venue with the staircase sounds amazing!
I'm just back from going to the venue and go my word it's perfect. It's so perfect! I don't think my mother is too happy with our Scottish plans but there is no comparison to me. My h2b is Scottish so it's not completely random. And a hotel where we live..... Or a Scottish castle has to be a no brainer right?
I'm so excited right now. Hoping to book by the weekend just waiting on a few questions and numbers before we can proceed xx

Thank you Carrie, ring should be here tomorrow and then I get to stare at the little package for hours until h2b comes home as I think we shoukd open it together, that might be a killer though, feeling so nervous as obviously haven't seen the ring at all just a picture of the design!
I'm waiting for the castle to get back to me and then I'll pop up some photos when it's all booked- don't wish to jinx it! Hoping it will be sorted on Saturday then I can start plawning and booking everything! Xx

Congratulations on your engagement. How exciting?! I think 7 months is definitely doable. A castle sounds amazing. Best thin for u to do is sort as much as you can straight away then you won't worry as much near the big day. I'm sure your mam will get over it. After all it is your big day. 7 months is loads of time. I actually arranged my first wedding in 6 months and I had two different venues, guest lists to arrange as we had a small civil wedding during the week followed by a big wedding blessing/wedding breakfast at the weekend.
To be honest I found it pretty easy and got everythign I wanted despite the short notice of arranging things.

Ah yes well, the setting wasn't quite what I was after so it has been returned to hopefully be remade into what I was after. Feeling awful about it and I think my oh thinks I'm being crazy fussy and I think he was disappointed that I didn't love it. But when it costs so much it has to be right and I didn't even want to photograph it. Hopefully I'll be showing it off when I get it back. Going to see what the jeweller recommends when he gets it back on Monday. Customer service seems to be very good though xx

Venue also being a bit slow replying which Im finding off putting. They also didn't make a great offer basically the package for 50 instead of 60 is the same price but with the honeymoon suite free. Hmm not bowled over by that and they didn't give me prices for the guest rooms!

AWww no, fingers crossed it's perfect when you go to pick it up next time. I know exactly what you mean by wanting it just how you want it, took some going back and forth with the design of my e-ring then wedding band so that it was perfect. You're wearing it for the rest of your life so it has to be perfect.
Good on you for making the venue work to get your custom. Don't let them have an easy ride.

My ring has been received back safely at the jewellers and i have literally just gotten off the phone to them. they are such lovely people to deal with and he seems to know exactly what i am after. They are going to email me the new design for me to approve and then i should get it back fairly soonish! So happy!
Feeling cloud nine happy today as well as i found my dress!! Yay! I am so happy, it was just what i wanted and is a real princess dress! I bought Harrods disney cinderella shoes (love the bay of e as have wanted them for so long) the girls in the shop loved them and they were perfect with my dress!!
Just need to sort the venue out now, the package was a late deal package so 5k for 60 people with the venue, arrival drinks, wedding breakfast 3 courses, wine, toasting sparkling wine, wedding stationary (so place cards and table plan etc) and an evening buffet. Very good package but was hoping for more than just the room free to reduce it to 50 people if that makes sense?

We have now booked our date! So excited and paying deposit on monday. They are giving us the honeymoon suite and a piper for free- whigh means we get to cut the cake with a sword!

Will update when deposit has been made with venue photos and details! Have bought cream lace effect lanterns and ive painted one navy, will add cheap battery fairy lights inside and maybe make mini floral arrangements for the side. THe one I painted looks lovely in navy!

We originally had a castle in mind and a knights and fairy theme, OH was even going to wear a suit of armour and fairy wings for me! The venue was really stretching the budget though, it a was over an hour away and I really didn't like the woman or the reviews (which suggested the owners "took over, invited themselves and helped themselves to food and cake!" My mum has 6 brothers who are all a bit rough around the edges (loveable rogues) and even if I had managed to hold my tongue, it wouldn't have gone down well!

If you use the sword cake option it gets cut before the meal so I guess we will still be sober which is something! The lighting will also be better for cake cutting- my brother is pitying the photographer already!

Thank you girls, I've known I've wanted a Swarovski tiara for a while but they don't seem to make them anymore so it's been quite a search on the bay of e. Felt a bit guilty spending so much but figured they were the same sort of price for normal tiaras in bridal shops anyway!
