Hi everyone, I have got the all important dress but it is heavier than I was thinking. It is also huge with the hoop underneath, so I was thinking of buying a second dress to change into after the first dance..
I just don't want to buy one and end up not wearing it, but I also don't want to feel uncomfortable and wish I had bought one.
I wouldn't want to change and feel "less of a bride", is anyone else getting a second dress?
Any good places to buy one? I don't want to spend a lot and I'm not sure on weather I want a short dress or a long dress without a train.
    Please help :)

I was going to get a short prom dress for after the first dance so I'd be more comfortable but I'm not sure anymore my mum and bms think I shouldn't get a 2nd dress lol xx

    Your dress is stunning :)

I'd have a think on it, I personally am not planning on changing my dress.... but if you are going to be uncomfortable in your dress for the evening then you probably will want something else to get changed into. Could you look at a more comfortable but still very weddingy dress.... maybe look on some auction sites at a used tea length wedding dress?

You could always get one that's not too expensive and if you get changed then you get changed and if not then it didn't cost you a lot anyway?
    Xx

Thanks girls, I think I might take the plunge and get a second dress. A plain one so if I don't wear it I could be cheeky and wear it for something else. Will be looking on auction sites see if I can get another good deal like my wedding dress :)

It is a Ian Stuart Dominica, it was sold for around £3,500 not sure if they are still being sold as mine was a sample dress sold on the Bay of E.

My onpinion is that if the gypsy brides can deal with there reduculous dresses that are very uncomfy and heavy I can deal with my dress. Is satin so quite heavy . Looking forward to it being altered as needs atleast 5/6" off the bottom as in so short. so will make ut quite a bit lighter.

i thought that i would like a different dress for the evening but i love my dress so much that i wont want to take it off :) for the evening they have put a bustle/hook and eye in the back of my dress to hook the train up as my dress it quite big too and it takes a lot of weight out of the dress and easy to dance with xx

Once you have your dress altered to fit you perfectly, you may find you will be able to take the weight a lot better. I know I did with mine! I wore my dress all day, as it was the one and only time I could wear the dress, plus your reception guest’s might of really liked to see you in your proper dress 

Lana2BMrsHands - Haha yeah I suppose but those gypsy brides come out of their wedding days with bruises and scars!
BeckyU98 - I might see if I can get mine bustled (if that's the right term?) Mine has the lace train with satin to the floor, hard to explain but I don't want it to look odd bustled up..
ElizabethF49 - my dress was really quite cheap, 10% of the retail cost although I love it I also know that I look awful all hot sweaty would hate to see any pictures of me in the night time haha.
Elliekitty - my dress at the moment is too big it does make sense that when its fitted properly it will be easier to wear as right now I'm constantly pulling it up. We don't have any reception guests all our guests are invited to the whole wedding as I have a small family and H2B has a big Irish family so we had to invite everyone to everything. My close friends are bridesmaids, his close friends are best men (he couldn't pick one so he has two) so we ran out of people to invite to just the reception haha

I bought one from Debenhams, basically for similar reasons to you: my dress is heavy, it has a long train, plus it has a steel-boned corset. I'll be getting into it at 11.30am-ish, and our reception could end as late as 3am; so I wanted to have the option to change. The dress I bought was only £130, it's still pretty, and still a wedding dress (ivory lace) but it's very light, it has no boning, and it has no train. I won't definitely wear it; if I don't wear it it'll be coming on honeymoon for a photo shoot lol so will still be worn.

I think having a second dress is a good idea, if only for peace of mind/knowing you have the option to change.

Barbie86 - that is exactly what i'm looking for, with the same plan as you, to be able to wear it if I don't end up wearing it on the day.

the bustle/hook up or whatever it is called will work well for you. i had mine done 2 weeks ago and it hooks up on a button inside and the top layer of the dress still goes over the top so you cant really tell that i have the train tucked up. and it was only £15 to put in i would definitely recommend x

In that case I'd maybe go for it. Loads of places have reasonably priced wedding dresses that would be suitable: try Debenhams, Monsoon, and also TK maxx.

Most dresses have a bustle built in an if they don't good seemstresses can do one so it won't look odd.

I checked for a bustle and it doesn't have one so I would need to get one put in, I need to find someone good to alter my dress anyways so I'll ask, I'm putting a picture of the back of my dress (not my actual dress nicked the picture of google) not sure if it will look odd bustled.
