Depends on how much you can afford and the type you want! I'd say average is between £200-£500 for 3 tiers to feed about 100-120. That said decide how much you can afford and ask people based on that. I emailed a lady who's starting price for 3 tiers is £195 but said our budget was £150 and we wanted 3 tiers and she's said she'll do us one for that! Be cheeky, it can get you some good deals :) x

Depends on what you want - M&S do cakes and if you get their plain cake and do it yourself you can pay around £150 for it!

Just shop around and see what quotes you get xxx

Check out people who do it as a hobby as well as looking at shops. I saw mine and the shop wanted £375 = no way but then a cousin told us about a friend of hers and after looking at ones she has done we booked her and its £80.... Definately shop around

i agree with lovelylainee, i'm getting married in september, and our budget is fairly tight, i've looked at places like m&s and tesco and they do a wide variety of cakes for very reasonable prices, as soon as you mention the W wrod to cake makers and florists the price seems to go up by about 50% !! this is the link for marks and spencers, hope it helps :-)

our cake is bespoke. £375 for a completely one-off cake we designed ourselves (with the cakemaker) 4 tiers and bottom base dummy.

this is reasonable, considering some of the prices i've seen - bloomin' extortionate for less tiers!

You can always get them to decorate a fake cake and then serve up sheet cakes from the back of if you want a big cake but don't have them many guests you can have some fake layers put into the cake to make it look bigger without the wastage.

my h2B's auntie is doing ours but it's still costing £250 for a simple three tier with an extra cuttign bar. We're just having some ribbon and figurines of me, H2B and our bulldoggy on the top so I still think this is a bit steep.

NINI - why not bake your own variety of cakes and have a cake table with different traditional cakes? you can bake them yourself and people would love it.

failing that, a brownies and cookie bar will keep everyone happy late in the evening - especiallly kids xx
