Depends on how much you can afford and the type you want! I'd say average is between £200-£500 for 3 tiers to feed about 100-120. That said decide how much you can afford and ask people based on that. I emailed a lady who's starting price for 3 tiers is £195 but said our budget was £150 and we wanted 3 tiers and she's said she'll do us one for that! Be cheeky, it can get you some good deals :) x
CommentAuthorkisseymad1
Thank you all very much, and I'll make sure i'm cheeky thanks :) x
Depends on what you want - M&S do cakes and if you get their plain cake and do it yourself you can pay around £150 for it!
Just shop around and see what quotes you get xxx

Check out people who do it as a hobby as well as looking at shops. I saw mine and the shop wanted £375 = no way but then a cousin told us about a friend of hers and after looking at ones she has done we booked her and its £80.... Definately shop around
CommentAuthorUnknown
i got quoted £450 for a 3 tier cake each tier different filling....now i ave managed to get it for £275 just by shopping around and it is exactly the same xx

We are getting ours for £190. If we shopped around we would have probably got one cheaper but we are using someone who we have dealt with before for cakes. xx

i agree with lovelylainee, i'm getting married in september, and our budget is fairly tight, i've looked at places like m&s and tesco and they do a wide variety of cakes for very reasonable prices, as soon as you mention the W wrod to cake makers and florists the price seems to go up by about 50% !! this is the link for marks and spencers, hope it helps :-)
definately look around at hobbyists, ive been sent details of someone who does amazing cakes for really cheap - about £250 cheaper than the shops!!

our cake is bespoke. £375 for a completely one-off cake we designed ourselves (with the cakemaker) 4 tiers and bottom base dummy.
this is reasonable, considering some of the prices i've seen - bloomin' extortionate for less tiers!

You can always get them to decorate a fake cake and then serve up sheet cakes from the back of if you want a big cake but don't have them many guests you can have some fake layers put into the cake to make it look bigger without the wastage.

i found a cake shop next to mine that are doing cakes for £99 for a 3 tier, im gutted as already paid for mine, at £350 !
CommentAuthorhjl2001uk
my h2B's auntie is doing ours but it's still costing £250 for a simple three tier with an extra cuttign bar. We're just having some ribbon and figurines of me, H2B and our bulldoggy on the top so I still think this is a bit steep.

Me and mum are going to attempt to do our own. She makes great cakes its the icing we need to practice on. Have watched a few videos on the tube and it doesn't look that hard..but you never know :S If not, I think we may go M&S.

NINI - why not bake your own variety of cakes and have a cake table with different traditional cakes? you can bake them yourself and people would love it.
failing that, a brownies and cookie bar will keep everyone happy late in the evening - especiallly kids xx
