I am getting married 2018 March. The hotel we are wanting to have our wedding breakfast and evening do. They have a resident dj which they assure me is very good but does not have a website or anything to look at previous work. They are charging me £200. How much did people pay for their dj?
It would be in a hotel from about 7pm till 1am. Only added extra I would like is lights and be able to request songs on the night.
Any feedback would be very helpful.
Many thanks

Ours is around £450 from 7pm to midnight, so you would be getting a good deal. Could they not let you know his contact details so you can have a chat with him first before committing?

£200 is very reasonable for the full night. Ask the venue for contact details of the DJ as you'll want to discuss music styles, particular artists you like and set up for the evening etc.

Ours was £500 (including mood lighting). Thought he was overpriced. 7pm - 12 am. He hardly interacted with anyone. Not many people danced, and I thought he could have got more people dancing. I don't recommend the guy at all (St3v3 M1tch3ll in S0uthp0rt). Oh and caught him eating our food too.

The hotel really should let you check him out. Sounds a bit iffy to be honest that they wont let you have any reviews. By the sound of it the price is good though.

We've got a friend who's a dj so he's doing us a very good deal. Is there anyway you could ask the venue to let you pop your head in on another wedding (preferably with permission of the couple!) that way you can see him in action and have a better idea of his work. Or find out if he works elsewhere which would be easier for you to see him working. X

Ours is £320 for 3 hours.
I'm always wary of resident DJ's. my best friend went for that and was dreadful (took ages to set up, was late for the first dance, cleared the dance floor on numerous occasions). I would definitely see if you can get his contact details or see if you can speak to other couples who have used him.

£200 is a good deal, if he's any good. Ask if you can meet him.
I did with ours, they held a wedding open day, and I wasn't keen on the one they had, so removed from our package.
I ended up paying £450 for 4pm-midnight, glad I did, the dj we got was fantastic and had the floor filled all night. I found them online. (I can't remember the company name though!!!) so worthwhile shopping around if you're not sure.

My Brother and sister in law to be work in the wedding entertainment industry, they both are part of a couple of bands and a lot of their work is weddings. I asked them about this after my cousins wedding as the DJ they had was awful - they recommended that if we couldn't see the resident DJ in action not to book them because some venues hire inexperienced or mediocre DJs so they can add it in at a cheap price as a perk.
I'm not saying that all resident DJs are bad, and it's second hand information, it just might be a bit of a risk if you haven't seen them perform. If I were you I'd ask for contacts for references from people who've used them before or ask if they're playing an evening that you could go to to see what they're like. If not, it might be worth parting with an extra couple of hundred quid to ensure they're up to the task!
