    Hi ladies,

So I think I may have found my dress. I tried it on a few weeks ago (5th or 6th shop tried) and finally found one that has everything I want: lace up, a line with sweet heart neckline, rouches and bead detail on boobs and back as well. The only problem is that the sample they had for me to try on was a size 22...I'm a size 10!

When I tried it on 2 ladies pulled the material in at the top and waist to show me what it would like in my size and it looked nice but obviously not the same. Because there was so much excess material I could not get the full effect as all the detail on the back was hidden to make it 'fit'.

I'm going back on Saturday to try it again and perhaps get measured. My question is where I do stand with asking them to get it in my size so that I can try it on in an appropriate size for me before having to put down a deposit? I understand that they will need to order it in for me in the closest to my size, but am worried that I may not like it. It's hard to make a decision for definite when I can't get the overall look in the sample size. Advice on what to say or what rights I have would be appreciated. Thanks

A possibility is finding out the designer name of the dress and the name of the dress itself and see if you can track it down through another retailer or see what it looks like online on a slimmer model. You might be lucky and find out that a nearby boutique/dress shop may carry the same design of dress but in a smaller size. I was lucky that the sample dress I tried on fit like a glove at the time and won't be losing much when the day draws neared and (hopefully) needs taken in a little so I don't know the full process of what happens when ordering your own size but as I understand it, they have to make it to your measurements and then when it arrives in the store they do necessary fittings to ensure it fits to your shape.

I must say I'm not really sure about them ordering in another sample for you to try...
Can you try googling the dress to see it on a model? Are there any other shops that have the same one? Can you try it on again with a few different people with you to get their opinions?

They won't order a dress in especially for you to try in you size Hun, could you imagine how many dresses they would have if they did that for everyone? Your best bet is seeing if another shop has it in in a size closer to yours and go and try it on there. They may even be selling it cheaper! Xxx

Yeah I know what you guys mean. Its so hard to envisage how it will look / hang on me when the one they have is so much bigger. I wouldn't be this unsure if it was a size 14 or 16 for example its just too big to get the overall look. I have been in pretty much all the bridal shops in my area and then some and this is the only place ive seen it in. May just need to see again after sat. My mum said it looked good all tightened up and that it framed me nicely, it was her fave one on me since my first time (she sees the 1st try on as special). And I liked it so hopefully if it looked good in a way too big size then it will look even better in my size. I've looked at in online on a slim model and it looks nice but I'm bad at trying to imagine things on me.

I've looked at so many dresses and none have really hit the spot so have been feeling a bit despondent before i found this one, want to really be sure but feel I won't be until I get it in my size.

If I do decide to go ahead and ask them to order it in my size where would I stand if I didn't like it when it came in? Could I change my mind or would I lose my deposit?

Am taking my moh on sat with my mum so will get a fresh opinion as well which may help.

You will be asked to pay a deposit for the dress before they agree to make it up for you. You will lose this if you decide you do not like the dress after all is so far what I have found out on g66gle so I'm not 100% on that.

Hi, if u want it ordered in your size you're going to have to pay I'm afraid. I had the opposite issue - size 12= in the shop but had to be ordered in a 22 for depth over my boobs! When it came in it looked horrid as it was so big but gradually we are getting there bit by bit with the fittings, the seamstress has removed 9 inches of material off it so far. What I'm saying is if even though it's a size 22 , is your favourite so I reckon it'll look amazing on you in the right size. It's a massive purchase isn't it, and its hard to know if you're doing the right thing but I think you've got to trust your mum and your instincts. X

If you knew the designer, you could see who else stocked the dress. I must admit, it's rare you got to see a 22, as they usually seem to stock tiny sizes

Thanks for your advice MrsFarrelly2b. I understand totally what your saying and I must admit I probably wouldn't be second guessing myself so much if it wasn't such an important purchase! I must follow my instincts on sat I feel, plus my moh is so good with clothes and will be able to tell me if it looks good as it is / suits me and envisage the final dress. If it looks good in a big size it must look amazing when it's on mine.

Your experience does sound the opposite of mine but sounds like it's really coming together. Its nice to hear that others have had size issues and had to order off feelings, really reassured me. Thanks so much, will see what happens sat.

clairenina - I know what you mean most dresses I've tried have ranged 10-16, its just typical my fave has to be such a diff size for me. Nevermind , I'm sure everyone comes across this as they can't stock all sizes otherwise all bridal shops would have an attached warehouse!

So I went back today with my mum and moh. Tried on my 2nd fave dress first for comparison purposes and then my fave (the size 22) and even though its ridiculously huge on me I loved it even more.

To cut a long story short I took the plunge and ordered it - I finally have my dress!!! So excited, it has everything I want and I can't wait to get it in my size. It was my mums fave as well and my moh loved it - she found it hard to imagine how it would hang but looked online as well at the model so this helped. They both think I've made the right decision, as its the first dress that ticks every box for me, and I'm no longer worried. Was measured up, size 8 ordered and deposit paid. Just gotta wait 6-7months until it comes in.

On another good note may have found the bridesmaids dresses there as well, but need to book an appointment to go back with them both and have a try to see what they think.

One big weight off my shoulders!

Glad you're sorted Erin! Don't which is worse: trying a dress that's way too big or one that's too small and can't be fastened anywhere near the top lol! I've had both experiences lol xx
