    Hey everyone;

    is anyone else out there not bothering with a cake? I really cant get excited by them. They are very pretty and i am sure they taste lovely, but beyond that? Straight from The off we wanted cup cakes and because our wedding is near x mas that soon changed to a mince pie tree. I genuinely didn't think i would get any hassle for this, as we are still having something in place of the all important wonderful cake. When ever i tell anyone about this (not just family and in laws) they all look at me like I've just killed a puppy!! I'm half expecting someone to yell won't someone please think of the children. I can't get my head around it. I thought loads and loads of people did the cup cake thing. Could you imagine the carnage that would have occurred if i had gone with my first instinct and not had anything at all.
    end rant lol.

    Don't worry about other people, they're stupid!

    I'm having a cake, but that's because we both want one. I want the cutting the cake picture ect. BUT I think your idea is lovely and if it's what you want then go for it, why have a cake when you don't want one? To me that is way more crazy then not having one at all.

    I think its a fab idea! We are having cup cakes but have been bullied into having a 6inch cutting cake 'for photos' as my mum said!

    Just ignore them, I think mince pies is a great idea and when it comes to other peoples opinions, you can't win either way. My OH doesn't like the idea of cupcakes so we will be having a cake but I've lost count of the amount of people who have said to me 'oh don't bother with a cake its so old fashioned, why don't you just have cupcakes'. see you can't win either way ;) Just go with what you want and please yourself (and OH of course) because no-one elses opinion matters at the end of the day :)

    Were not having a wedding cake as such. Im buying a triple chocolate cake from a supermarket along with 20 cupcakes and decorating them up myself. I refuse to pay ridiculous amounts for a 'tradition' of a cake.

    im with you on that cherrybinky, prices of wedding related things are getting crazy these days.
    a friend is helping out with our 3 tier cake for the price of the ingredients, she bakes and decorates cakes as a hobby and she is really good, so we are happy for her to do it for us, plus i will be helping so it will allow me to give it a personal touch. she says that these professional cake bakers are well over priced when it comes to wedding cakes.

    mandananda i would just go with your mince pie idea it sounds great and unique, don't get too overwhelmed with what everyone else thinks or expects, its not their wedding!

    My cousin got married on 21st dec 09 and she had a 'cheese' cake. 3 different cheeses (1 local to the main family, 1 local to her family, and 1 local to where she was living). Not everybody wants a cake, and i personally hate the idea of cupcakes, but a mince pie tree sounds amazing!

    It's your and your h2b's day so stuff them; have what you want. Have you looked into having mincepies instead of cupcakes and then a cutting cake at the top? :)

    I'm only having a proper cake because my mum makes them for a living (and when i said i wasn't fussed she also looked at me liked i'd just killed a puppy) if i could have my own way i'd have gotten a pork pie cake. Go with the mince pies if thats what you want, i can't see people ransacking your venue looking for the elusive wedding cake (i;ve just g00g'd mince pie tree - thats looks awesome)

    Sounds like a fantastic idea. Ignore everyone who frowns upon it - stuff em. People keep telling me, you need to do this and you need to have that.....no I don't - I need to have a lovely day with my H2B and a wedding day that is what WE want. Stuff tradition - stuff everyone sticking their oar in - you do what makes you and your H2B happy xx

    I think having a mince pie tree is really unique and I don't think anything wrong with that ... Ppl do different things all the time now anyway, I mean look at the ppl that have those 'cakes'(I use this loosely ) that are complete circles of cheese,not exactly traditional either just more fitting with what they want.
    I wouldn't have a mince pie if I was there as I don't like them, but I wouldn't miss having cake,I just think it's a cool idea!x

    I don't think I've ever gone to a wedding and actually had a bit of cake lol, we're planning on putting our cake on the buffet after it's been cut (both sets of parents think this is mental and think we should do it, but we think that way the cake will get eaten and not forgotten about) but if I went to a wedding where someone had mince pie's or cheese or whatever else instead of a cake I wouldn't be bothered, I'd think it was lovely that they had what they wanted....
