oh dear. im a little heartbroken. as some of you know i have maggie soterro suzanne vidal in silk taffeta and i bought it off ebay second hand. it appeared to be in great condition- just needed drycleaned. today i took my maggie into the best drycleaners in edinburgh (it gets mistaken for a bridal wear shop and is used by the queen) for the drycleaner to start pointing out whats wrong with it. OH JEEZ!
    1. shes spilt alcohol down in and when its drycleaned it may go dark
    2. someones stood on the back of the dress and that may have caused the fabric to tighten meaning when its drycleaned its going to be left water marked.
    3. the beads may melt.
    4. theres 4 small tears in the dress
    5. one of the tears is at the bottom of the corset so its costing an extra £40 to fix that
    6. the dirt underneath the dress wont come off because she left it too long- should have been drycleaned within the week.

So now im gutted. totally f*cked, and raging! tried to find her on ebay but shes conveniently no longer a user and i bought it a few months ago so i dont think paypal can help. the dry cleaner said that if it is left stained noone but me and her will notice coz noone looks that closely at the dress they just look at the 'whole picture'. but really who wants to wear a stained dress? im only planning on doing this once and dont think ill feel right in it now.

Now i know this may sound very strange but after my sister-in-law got married she washed her dress herself at home because somebody had stood on her train, she had beads all over the dress. She put it inside a duvet cover and tied it with a hair bobble and put it on the lowest temp wash and it came out brilliant. If the dry cleaners cant garantee you the results you want i would try that! xx

They will have jellytot, in case people sell something then deregister straight away.
Most people who use ebay if they decide they don't want to use it will just not use it, not deregister. It could be dodgy so give it a shot :)

Ooohh Jay thats so unfair of someone to sell it and not be honest that it was in such a state! I would have it cleaned only if you think you will wear it or it's just more wasted money ... if you feel you're not gonna wear it, look for a new one. Like you said you will only do this once, and you don't want to feel 2nd best, but perfect.... try and find out from paypal her details... good luck hun xx

I really wouldn't panic. It might seem like the end of the world now, because you've just had all of these things pointed out to you that you hadn't been told about or noticed yourself. But look at it this way - I'm paying £1,600 for a made-to-measure dress that won't be perfect even when it leaves the shop. If I look at it closely enough, I will be able to tell a bead is missing or not quite in the right place. After 2 fittings I will have already got foundation/blusher/eyeshadow all over the inside, and on the day I wear it I'll snag my heel in it before I leave the house, or a bridesmaid will spill her mascara down it.

There will always be something not quite perfect and we will all got miffed when these things happen. If you love the dress, love it's flaws and the fact you didn't have to take out a small mortgage for the honour of wearing it for one day! x

she didnt look very optimistic, must be said. i know she has to point all the things out to cover herself but its put the fear of god into me. it should be back to me in about 2 or 3 weeks so ill see the damage then. even if it comes back grand im still p*ssed that she didnt tell me these things when selling it to me. and the corset lace at the back was missing when i got it and its been a nightmare trying to find another one

where is the stain on the dress hun? could it be sorted with a sash or a fancy brooch? Something you could borrow? Maybe an extra layer of organza can be sewed in to hide any imperfections and put your own stamp on it!
shop around for costs of repair - do you know someone handy with a needle? a grandma or godmother?
I agree with dove and the others, the cleaners give you the worst case scenario just in case, and loubie's suggestion is a good one, depending on your fabric - might work :)
I would get in touch with ebay and let them know, the details of the sale should be in your history and they should be able to trace her down. check what they have said in the description, she may have said something that covers her - like in good condition with some use - ebay might say there is nothing they can do as you knew it was second hand.
    but dont get disheartened.
its really hard to see the light when everything is going wrong for you, but in 3 months it will all be worth it hun!
    chin up :)

we went and got some ribbon that matches out of john lewis so that problem is solved, and the drink has been spilt right down the front, so if it stains like she says then i cant see how it wont be obv. theres no way tat i can cover it really. im hoping so hun, its just been a bad day and for some reason i totally hate ross today. he knows im not well and left me last night ont he couch with a temp of 39.9 to go meet his mates. came home at 4 this morning. left me to look after the kids while he went back to bed (i can barely stand thanks to the temp) and then my dress went tits up, then jess wet herself trying to turn on the bathroom light and he started shouting at her and at me to discipline her. i told him to f off and shouted at him that if hes going to behave like that and shout at my baby then he can f off. so he said im washing my hands of her and i said to him get out my house, if you wash your hands of her you wash your hands of me so be very careful and hes not said a word to me since. he even went and made himself a cup of tea and not me. its been a crap day :(

    what a poo face!
no point talking to him while you are feeling poop, you wont have the energy to do the conversation justice - get the kids in bed early and then get yourself tucked in. Boys can be very thoughtless sometimes and dont realise that their bad moods have an impact on everyone else. chances are something is bothering him and he is trying to keep it from you - maybe just cause he knows you are ill and doesnt want to stress you out! boys! is he worried about money and stuff with the wedding coming up? i know my dan gets worried about that kind of stuff and becomes a pain to live with sometimes.
you wouldnt have agreed to marry him if you didnt love him somewhere, somehow!
Just wedding jitters, ill health and poop weeather!

Jay would you have the dress back by the time I see you on the 3rd April, if you do then I could have a look at it then so that you have had a 2nd opinion from a friend, then if there is anything I think would be able to be fixed eg the slight tears in the fabric may be easily stitched, then I can get advice from my dressmaker about how to do this without it being noticeable. Also the stain, it tends to be the chemicals that the dry cleaners use that causes the stains to show more but there is some kind of cleaner that doesnt but for the life of me I cant remember the name at the moment, also it depends whether they are steam cleaning it or using a machine to wash it, as different processes of cleaning gives different results. So I would check again with the dry cleaners what they are going to use on the stain and what prewash solution they will use over the stain before washing.

As for Ross, he is just acting childish over things at the moment, and its probably cause you're not well and stresses with working overtime and having to deal with the kids on your own, and hes also probably stressed over his loss of job and so things tend to be within couples when both are stressed over different issues that we say things we really dont mean. But if he is just being a total a rsehole then maybe a wee time out from him might be a good idea at the moment, as in him staying at friends for a couple of days.

Also I think you should contact NHS 24 asap re you temperature as its scarily high and should be checked at gdocs or hospital, as I think your tonsilitus infection is getting much worse now. Please call them and find out what advice they can offer to bring your temperature down first. x

Hun if I were you I would also be mad at the seller but in terms of what may happen when dry cleaning - don't panic, I take in stuff for our dry cleaners hwen there is no one there and you have to warn people of these things, and it usually comes to nothing, if the care label reads specialist clean only you should be able to complain to the manufacturer if any of these problems do arise, contact trading standards for details but basically none of these problems should occur if the care label states it can be cleaned in a certain way. Did you buy it on a credit card? If so they may be able to help you get the money back as it is a faulty purchase. Contact ebay and paypal with details of the transaction, they should be able to contact the seller

my last wedding dress i didnt get cleaned til i sold it last yr- 3 yrs after getting married, the train had been walked on by kids and the odd grown up while drunk, i had spilt wine n a couple of other drinks were spilt- not exagerating, people got pretty drunk at the last wedding - there was the usual dirt on the bottom of it. any way u get the jist its wasnt too claen after that night but i took it to our local dry cleaners and she charged me £20 to clean it and it came back clean. there was a couple of the beads that were loose but other wise it was just like new or n there was the faintest had size mark on the train but u honestly couldnt see it unless u looked for it - i would try another dry cleaners- mine were just the run of the mill laundrette who did wedding dresses etc as part of the service. honestly try another dry cleaners

I agree with spooney - we get upset if our patients have a temp over about 38.5. I hope it has come down some, even if you feel cold, don't wrap up! It is so hard not to but you're really too hot.
I hope your dry cleaning doesn't mess it up.
    Anything better at home?
