Wedding Forum - My planning ( after wedding update )...

H2B's sister has had her first dress fitting. I put future MIL in charge of it, as she knows exactly how it needs to be done, and the lady from the shop did go to the Mews, where Sarah lives. They sent me a couple of photos and it looks great. It just needs some of the boning and buttons removed so that it is comfortable for her in her wheelchair, as well as the hole for her feeding tube. Haven't heard anything about the dresses for the two MOHs though, which were ordered from the same designer at the same time. However they were ordered through a different shop, so I'm hoping that means that they went to a different factory or something. There's no rush, one of them can't have her fitting until June at the earliest is she is having a baby at the end of May. I might check in a couple of weeks though, just in case there is a problem.

I'm also expecting a call in a couple of days to say that my wedding ring is ready. It's my great-grandmother's wedding ring, which has been changed into signet rings a couple of times and therefore had to be reshaped and resized. Once that's done we can start looking for a good match for H2B's ring.

The final part of the deposit has been paid on the venue. We just have the balance now once we confirm our numbers. I rang the jewellery shop today and the ring isn't ready yet, so that will probably wait until next Saturday now.

We've ordered suits for H2B and his two best men today. He tried on two jackets, and I really wasn't keen on the first one, but fortunately he agreed. I didn't want to say until I knew his opinion, as he's the one that has to wear it and I want him to feel comfortable, but we both went for the same one. They'll all have ivory waistcoats, and he will have an ivory cravat and hanky, while the best men have royal blue cravats and hankies to match the best men. Then we bought some of the bits for the centrepieces, so all in all a productive day.

Just bought the fabric for the remaining bridesmaids dresses. They're now going to be royal blue rather than pale blue.

Hair and make-up trial is booked for April 25th. Next to sort are cake and centrepieces. Also working on the playlist for the wedding breakfast. Feeling very productive at the moment.

We've also ordered H2B's wedding ring, which should be ready on Thursday. He got it for £190 instead of £279, because we had 10% off for getting my engagement ring there, and he had £60 in bonus bonds that he'd won at work, which that shop accept.

These are the table signs that MIL is making. We've corrected the spelling on Handel and Saint-Saëns.

Booked a menu tasting for 24th May. We get two from each course to try, so the starters are salmon and a goat's cheese tartlet, the mains are duck and chicken with a leek and cheese farce, and the desserts are a chocolate marquise with whisky ice cream and a warm pear and frangipane tart. In each case we're pretty sure we know what we're going for, but who knows we might change our minds.

I'm also chasing up the lady that I've been talking to about cake decorating, as we ran into a slight problem with cake stands. She said the cakes should all be the same diameter, but I haven't found a cake stand to hire that allows for that. We're not stacking them, and most stands have bigger sizes at the bottom. I did ask whether it was essential for them to be the same size, or whether she had any other ideas for cake stands, and she said she'd come back to me but hasn't for a couple of weeks. If she doesn't come back by the beginning of June there's someone who's going to be at a local food festival who we might talk to.

I'd like to use her as she's a fellow musician that I met in a competition, and does cakes on the side. I know how much musicians need extra income. I do need to know that I can rely on her though.

Went to the first of this year's weddings on Saturday, and did actually get one idea. They had loads of bubbles, and we've been trying to come up with an alternative favour for the children, who might not fancy a CD. I think they're going to get a bottle of bubbles each.

I bought some bubbles today to put on tables. As our theme is butterflies they are smell ivory coloured bottles with a butterfly on the top. The bay is my new best friend lol x

I've bought the remaining fabric for the bridesmaids dresses today. Hopefully my MOH can get on with them soon, although she has to retrieve her sewing machine from her mother who she currently isn't speaking to (with good reason, she's horrid). She'll solve that though. I've also done the first charity shop run to start clearing out the stuff that I won't be taking to H2B's house. I've moved some small things to his already, but there's limited space there so we're both chucking stuff out.

Big brother appears to be coming around to it.

Another milestone reached. My younger brother got married on Saturday, so the next wedding I will be at is mine. We're not quite the next family wedding yet, as my Dad's brother is marrying on Saturday coming, but I barely know him or his husband to be, and wasn't invited. My poor parents have been at three weddings this month, as their goddaughter got married two weeks ago (I was at that one), but this time they just have to turn up, and it's not far away from them.

I've chased the cake decorator and heard back, so all well there. I can get on with hiring a stand now.

Menu tasting done today. We've settled on a goat's cheese and onion tartlett for starter, which surprised us as we expected to prefer the salmon. It also suits the vegetarians, and they can do a gluten free version, so all adults can have the same. Then we're having duck for the main, and a chocolate marquise for dessert which is to die for. The chef came out to talk to us afterwards, which was really useful as we were able to discuss allergies and picky eaters, and he's said he'll join us at our final details meeting.

how fab of the chef to join you :) we have some really fussy eaters (me included lol) and one of my MOH has a list of allergies as long as my arm lol.

My bag is here! I've just paid for the wedding car, and I've arranged the pre-wedding photo shoot for August 2nd. We've agreed we'll pay him at that point. I've also booked the first fittings for myself and my two MOHs, for 11th July which is the day before the hen do. That way the one travelling can do it all in one trip. Tomorrow is the cut-off for RSVps, so we can start chasing people, and we'll also pay the balance on the honeymoon tomorrow.
