I have a question! hahaha If everything goes as planned, we are getting married on a church. Can we play any songs there or just hymns?
CommentAuthorCatherineR
Normally it would be hymns in England x

You should be able to have a certain song to walk In and out to though, my friend did

Gonna need fmil help, cause I don't know any English hymns. I had my song to walk down the aisle quite chosen, but need to know from her what I should do...
You could just ask the vicar to see what's allowed? Seems the obvious thing really as your fmil may get it wrong depending on church rules.

I know I can have it, the registrar put it on the list of songs, but do you think it's appropriate to have the 'wedding march' at a hotel wedding?
CommentAuthorElizabethF49
I dont see why not lindsey at the end of the day its your wedding and if its what you want then yeah its appropriate

So far I want Last Night on Earth or When It's Time by Green Day walking down the aisle OH wants Everything Is Awesome (yes, the song from the Lego movie) to come on just as we finish signing Both of us are pretty agreed on All I Ask Of You from Phantom of the Opera as our first dance
For the reception I really want Green Daze (a cover band for Green Day) but OH refuses (he doesn't love them like I do) and I don't think we could afford them anyway :(

Walking out we want something different to the wedding march - still having a think about what the organist can do. It's in a church but I REALLY don't want 'Here comes the bride' or the wedding march lol! xxxx
CommentAuthorCatherineR
So much music you could use - I'm an organist so if you want any suggestions, I'm happy to help :) x

Came across a lovely acoustic version of Michael Buble - Everything this morning. It's by Clarissa Angela if anyone wants to have a listen. Contemplating using it for either first dance or walking down the aisle.

There won't be any music at all during our ceremony, it's in a Greek Orthodox church. I was quite disappointed when I learned this
But we are having as our first dance: Ivory road by King Charles And daddy daughter dance is: nothing else matters by metallica.

Ooh is there not even any music when you're walking down the aisle Leasa? And you've chosen one of my favourite ever songs for your daddy daughter dance, I love that song!
We've still to decide all of our music, I'm walking down to an instrumental version of Faithfully by Journey and our first is hopefully going to be the Buble version of Some Kind of Wonderful. We're still struggling to pick the rest though, esp what to walk back down to! Xx

So have had a change of mind for what I am walking down the aisle to. Originally it was going to be Danny Elfmans - Grand Finali but after watching Once Upon a Time recently I watched as Rumpel played in the backround the instrumental music for Beauty and the Beast - 'Tale as old as time' while dancing with Belle. I instantly started getting emotional and decided I wanted to walk down the aisle to it instead. I asked what the OH thought of this when I put the Essential Disney album on and he said it actually sounded really nice without vocals and it times well with BM, MOH2, FG and then Myself and MOH1 walking down the aisle.
First dance is still Unity by Shinedown :)

Debbie, no music at all! I've got a long standing joke going with oh that I'll have to burst through the doors and shout "ta da!" To announce my arrival.
I'm struggling to work out what it'll be like but in a Greek Orthodox ceremony the only sound made is by the priest, they sing/recite some ancient prayers and blessings. There are no vows as bride/groom are forbidden from speaking!

I'm looking at having a guitarist for the ceremony... but can't decide on either one who sings... or one who just plays the music....

Leasa, I think I saw this in the movie My Big Fat Greek Wedding! Bride and Groom don't say anything as the priest recites it all. Great fact about that movie. The priests who's church it was they borrowed for the movie refused to do the the ceremony as it is a holy rite and they had to get an actor in... but! whilst filming the wedding and baptism scenes the priest started singing in the backround and they decided to keep it in the audio for the movie!

Donna, I think it would depend on the guitarists voice. If he has a soft voice then yeah... otherwise I'd think guitar only.

Leasa, I think I'd be tempted to that too ha ha. Not sure how well it would go down tho eh lol. Xx
CommentAuthorDonnaH39
It also depends on if we can find a guitarist who doesn't sing. We've found a good one who does, but can't seem to find one who doesn't-which is annoying as we thought that would be easy.
CommentAuthorVictoriaL46
Can you not just ask the guitarist who does sing to... not sing? and just play?
or am I reading that wrong?

Nah-it's me being silly, if I'm paying him £225 he can bloody well sing lol... we're looking at ex students of our music teacher friends for just playing guitar, hoping they will do it quite a bit cheaper.
CommentAuthorVictoriaL46
For that cost damn right I would expect vocals lol I hope you find what you're looking for x

Haha-I know, waiting for the student to get back on a price... wondering if I should have just jumped in with an offer, but didn't want to offend him.
Anyway-how soon did people decide on their first dance? I think we have one planned, but just unsure on whether the band can play it or not, they say they will learn any first dance but we only want it if it will suit their vocals.... how soon do you think they'll want us to approach them about it? I don't want to come across as crazy?
CommentAuthorElizabethF49
Our band has said to let them know 6 weeks in advance if they need to learn it, But if its on their set list then to just let them know 2 weeks before

Ours has changed....
1. Walking up aisle - UB40 - Cant help falling in love with you 2. Signing the register - You're so cool from True Romance (its a kooky instrumental piece) and Chicane - Offshore (OH loves this one) 3. Walking back out- Jackie Wilson - love lifting me higher 4. Father/daughter dance- I loved her first by Heartland 5. First dance- Elvis Presley - Wonder of you 6. During the meal - just a CD of love songs 7. During photos - again, just a CD of love songs as background music. Not overly concerned about music during this time as we have a magician (and drinks!) to keep people occupied! 8. While guests arrive - just a CD of Ibiza chill out music 9. Walking into reception as Mr and Mrs - Stevie Wonder - Signed sealed delivered

Walking in I am being piped in and then as we walk out together again piped out and then also piped in to our wedding breakfast.
I haven't thought of what I want to be piped into yet, I think ill have a word with our Piper to decide.

we are so not having anything traditional...(maybe coz we are both nutters) there will be no soppy love songs and all that jazz...so far he is walking down the aisle to wonder boy by tenacious D, Our mascot Piggie is having tudthumping by chumberwumba, not sure on mine yet (but I'm sure it will be equally as good) and our first dance is going to be system of a down! But then thats us, we don't do soppy so why would we suddenly have songs we don't want just because its our wedding!
CommentAuthorFlossie
At the moment we both like a cover of Michael Buble - Everything for our first dance, but we've already changed our minds quite a few times so watch this space! We love it though because it's not really soppy and cheesy, it's a little upbeat and cheerful but the lyrics are still really cute and lovely.
Struggling with songs for walking down the aisle, signing the register and the exit.. Kind of like Walking on Sunshine for the exit but don't know if it's just tooooo cheesy lol. x

Sorry if this has been asked already, I get confused with longer threads lol.
I'm going for quite a traditional church wedding and my h2b has said he really wants the organ for coming in/ out. However I REALLY don't want to walk in to 'Here comes the bride'. I've actually got my heart set on walking in to Ave Maria, my Grandma was Austrian and an opera singer and she sang that at my mum and dad's wedding so it would be a nice link. Mum, Dad and h2b think it's a good idea.
Will the organist be able to play it though? Or could I ask them to 'learn' it (we aren't getting married till next August)? We haven't had our meeting wit the vicar yet to discuss hymns/ readings etc, she said we wouldn't need to see her about it till January, so would the time to check it out be then?
Thanks ladies! xxxx
CommentAuthorGlitterfairy
You can always ask them if they can, if not you can have it played via a cd if y can find a version of an organist playing it.
