When we were looking for our rings, the manager of one of the shops we were looking at advised us against white gold for men, he said for some reason it seems to go funny quicker when on men. We didn't think much of it and looked at other metals, but my fiancé's mum has since found another ring we may consider but it's white gold. My fiancé isn't sure now after being told that, but his mum says she hasn't heard of people having problems with white gold before.
Has anyone's husbands got a white gold band? and how do they get on with it?
Or anyone's fiancé's wear other rings that are white gold?

i have a white gold ring that i wear all the time and the only thing i have noticed with mine is that it does seem to get scratches on it more than my yellow gold ring. i also had another ring on the same finger with it for a short period of time and it has actually warn that side down and has gone form been rounded to a flat edge. i can imagine if your husband is in a job that he will be using his hands a lot it may get a bit more battered than your normal gold if you know what i mean lol.

My rings are white gold and the man in the shop didn't seem too fussed about that being an issue.
My partner is a Chemistry teacher, so is handling chemicals and things on a daily basis. He does wear gloves when he is handling them... but I suppose it is still a risk.
The man in the shop seemed convinced that men were more likely to have oils or something that react with white gold more (if that makes sense.... something in their sweat I suppose he meant) but he said himself he isn't an expert on what exactly it is but it's something he's noticed.

I've never heard that before and would be tempted to say it's absolute rubbish to be honest lol. I think white gold would be fine if that's what he wants.. we were looking at white gold for my OH but he's now found a few titanium rings that he likes. Titanium and tungsten seem to be a popular choice for men who have physical jobs and/or use their hands a lot xx
I asked the same question to my brother who is a jeweller. It's nothing to do with gender as to how quickly your white gold discolours. It's all about the acidity of your skin, and also the levels you come into contact with. Hope this helps. I had my engagement ring re-plated for our wedding, but wore it for 2 years before it was done, and it cost me £34 for a re-plate. I've said I will have both rings done once a year to keep them looking nice and new.

I think that sounds a bit strange, I can't see it being a gender thing. I probably wouldn't take too much notice of it tbh lol. Did take an interest in this post though as OH has chosen a white gold ring. When we were shopping he seemed to rule it out completely and I still have no idea why, I think he just wanted a more 'expensive' material tbh! Haha. He did go for it in the end though after I kept asking and he eventually found one he liked.

My husband has a white gold band and it's okay, think it will need re dipping at some point but given he never takes it off, not even when he's sleeping or in the shower its fine. My BIL has one too and his is also fine.
