Hi Everyone, i'm Vicky and i'm new here (be gentle!)
I got engaged on valentines day this year to a R.E.M.E Soldier and i was wondering if there are any other Military brides out there? Does anyone have any ideas about military touches we can add to our wedding? We were going to have a Guard Of Honour but our venue will struggle to find the space for it and my Fiancee is seriously having trouble deciding who he wants to do it anyway. Obviously he's wearing his uniform, and so are his army friends.
Also, this is a long shot but does anyone have any information about living in Married Quarters? We will be moving as soon as we're married but i am a bit ignorant about the whole thing! :/
Thanks in advance and nice to meet (kind of) you all! :)
    xXx

Hiya Vicky, pleased to meet you and welcome to the gangXX

I was an army wife for a few years, I had the usual bride and groom on my cake but the shop turned it into a little Royal Engineer soldier and we had an icing arch behind with the Royal Engineer cap badge in silver icing.

Living in pads is ok actually.... you get to meet lots of new people who are all in the same boat but DONT tell them anything you wouldnt want your mother to hear..... gossip spreads faster than wildfire on camp!!

Grab the opportunity by the do-whats and try not to be too homesick xxxxx

Hi Goff, I'll probably be based in Arborfield near Reading. But he is thinking of trying to get somewhere else, still in the south.
Happy2bme, thank you for the tips and the cake idea, sounds great :) I had a feeling that gossip would spread in quarters, so i shall keep some things sacred!

Hi VMW ..welcome to the site and congrats re your engagement!

I am/was an Army brat who lived a life in quarters all over the place..I also was engaged to a Naval fella..but, no real up to date advice other than what Happy said..keep your business sacred...incestuous places them Army camps!

On thoughts re your wedding and adding Army touches...are you having Menu cards ...perhaps you could have the REME cap badge printed on the back...and perhaps your name cards too...?

Also..you can get Cake Toppers that are made to look like you andyour fella (good ones on Ebay!) ..a mini you and him would be fun..?

You could cut your cake with a bl oody gert big sword too...????!!! Then see off any drunken squaddies with it after!

Hiya! I'm marrying the Army too. (Obviously not the whole Army but it feels like it sometimes!) My Guy is AGC (SPS) attached to Royal Artillery.

Miltary touches- well uniforms obviously. We are having Jersusalem as they always had to sing it at Church Parade in training, then a Guard of Honour out of the church. Instead of hiring a toastmaster, one of his friends with a good voice will do that role. We are going to mention Absent Friends who are out in Afganistan and elsewhere at the moment, and also do something to raise a little money for one of the Military charities.

As for married quarters, due to my work I'm not going to move in for a while, but my H2b recently sprung on me that you now have to buy furniture- may be something to check out. And I advise meeting as many of the wifes you're going to be living with as soon as possible.

    Nice to meet you. xx

Thank you CeCe and Dove for your wedding tips. Definitley going to think about the menu cards and doing something that raises money for a military charity, that'd be a nice touch. Also the absent friends thing is nice, making that a must.
I also really wasn't sure (and neither was my H2b about weather the places are furnished or not so it's so handy to find out that i may have to buy furniature now! Otherwise we'd have been in a bit of bother!

VMW - my H2B is in the Household Cavalary and we've chosen not to live in married quarters as the location wouldn't suit my work, plus we live our privacy lol
You should find out who the Welfare Officer is and speak with them, they can tell you all about what to expect when moving into married quarters espicially as things can be slightly different depending on location and regiment.

Hope this helps and Good Luck!! xx

    Hi vixmoonwalker and welcome

I am marrying into the army but I am not moving around with my husband to be, we decided that I didnt want to move my kids around too much, at the moment I only see H2B at weekends which is hard but we thought that if I move away from family and friends when he goes away for 6 months I will feel isolated.
However, if he gets posted more than 5 hours away we have agreed that I will move as the travelling would become too difficult.

H2B is wearing blues for our wedding as are the other male guests, he is changing into reds for the evening. we arent having an army wedding but I am going to make all the girls dress as GI Janes for my hen night.

he wants me to move down south with him when we're married, but very unsure about it at the moment!!!
H2b is wearing number 1's but thats about it army related, his army friends and just doing civvie clothes, he's not too fussed about any kind of army theme!

To add a bit about the household Cav... one of my best friends jason was household cav, but is not at uni with me training to be a nurse, but he's still military (qanrac) think i have that wrong but i know what i man :)

Hey! Just had to search for anything squaddie related and here I am!! My partner has been in the army for 6 years now and although he is going to wear his number ones isnt too bothered about the Guard of Honour or making a big song and dance of things- im kinda a lil disappointed because the whole song and dance would have been a bonus for me lol! he is in reme like his grandad and i was thinking of having black and white pictures of family and friends at the front who 'couldnt make it..'? ive looked for the figuereenes (sorry cant spell) for a reme/british army solider and wife but the only ones i can find are the american army? last i heard the furniture was supplied with the house and you can move in before your married as common law husband and wife as we were thinking of doing that last year until i moved to uni :o( best luck hun and make the most of the support/social network your gaining! make friends wisely x x

    Hello!
I'm new here, wedding date is 11th August 2012 :)
I'm marrying my soldier and so will be an army wife MEANING currently with the stress of planning, we don't even know where our first house will be etc
We have never lived together and as I still live with parents haven't built up too many household staples.
I'm in the process of ordering wedding stationary and I think we will be asking for money/vouchers off guests who wish to give. I'm thinking if we have a gift registry it could be difficult as we may get an immediate overseas posting (we have asked for this) and so I'm looking for poems to add to the invites to specify our preference for cash whilst adding a little quirk about living an army life and not having out first home yet and being unsure were we will be etc
Iv seen a few but they all seem tailored towards people having these items already.

Finally a group I can connect with! Been with my fiancé for four years now and we're finally tying the not Aug 10th 2013 and I so so so so cannot wait. He's in the Engineers and is based in Germany which I'm really scared about so will probably live on camp because I DONT speak German! Just hope people are nice because I've heard some horror stories :-/
He's in Kenya at the mo and wont be back till June so that is hard, its the longest he's been away four. Vonny i feel for you, 6 months is long. Are you going to be able to have with contact him? I'm completely like you tho, still living at home so when we get married that's the first time we will be living together!
I would like some military theme in the wedding, obviously the lovely number ones will be worn which is nice but I do want something else, not too sure tho. Ideas!??? x

Future Brookes- I should be able to speak to him on the phone once he gets settled. Not heard anything yet which is really hard. Just want to know he got there safe. Friends don't really get how it works so find it hard to understand that he isn't deliberately not calling.

We already have a house together and h2b stays on camp during the week as he is based 2 hours away and is home weekends. If he was posted further then i would go once we are married.

hey ladies... my hubby to be is in the navy... and his not wearing his uniform... but we are getting married in the navy church and having the reception at the royal maritime club/hotel ....

we are having table names after the ships my partner has been on or close friends have been on!

on the subject of married quarters they are pretty nice... but be carefull... we cant get married quarters as we wanted married quarters in portsmouth as his based in portsmouth and i am from there oginally and my hubby to be son also lives in gosport.

anyways because he will be in longon 2 weeks out of five from sept they wont give us married quarters only in london!

they will only give you married quarters where your partner is based not where you wish.. sucks massively..

to the point we are now trying to get a mortgage as well as the stress of the wedding (oh and my partner is away at the moment so i am doing it all by myself) no so much fun!! lol xx

Hi VixMoonWalker, I too am going to be a military wife but I have decided not to have a military style wedding... he will be wearing his uniform but the rest will be traditional and as for living in married quarters it all depends on where he's based and what rank he is to what your home will be like and the people who will live there xxx

My H2B is currently going through selection to be a Royal Marines officer. Ive said that Im not moving away from Liverpool though, which is going to be tough on us, but if he was away in Afghan for 6 months I wouldnt be able to go with him so we see it that way. And I dont think I could cope in Married Quarters, been on military bases before and dont think I could cope full time on there.

He is a navy reservist at the moment too, but we're not having a military themed wedding, nor is he marrying in his suit. We are getting married in the naval base in liverpool though, well having our reception there anyway, pics in my album.

Hello fellow forces WAGs! My h2b is also Army but we are not having a heavily based Army wedding, there'll be enough of that for the rest of our lives. H2b will be wearing his uniform and our invites will say uniforms welcome but not compulsory, he wanted his regimental colours as the theme but I've said no because they are not pretty enough. In honour of lost comrades we are putting a Help for Heroes pin badge in with the favours. Oh and my walking down the aisle music is Coldplays Paradise because it says "she dreams of para para paradise..." and he's a Para so I thought it might get a chuckle and stop me blubbing.

Luckily h2b is based in my home town now, we are currently renting but hoping to move into a married quarter in order to save to buy a house. We're nearly half way to a deposit but could do with the boost of insanely cheap rent. The quarters in our area are modern and really nice so it won't be a hardship. I'm just glad I am in my home town and don't have to rely on the local wives club as a support group. I've been to a few dos and found them incredibly catty and would be very careful about trusting them.

H2b is of to the bad place for 8 months with a 2 month break, he's enquirer with the HIVE people and he can apply for a quarter when he gets back and if there is one available we can move in a month before the wedding.

    I can't wait until 29/06/2013

    Hey,
Just had a quick scan through the thread, and I'm marrying into the Military too! My fiance is in the Navy. I guess it's easy for me as I served 6 years in the Navy myself until July last year.
We won't be living in MQ as we have our own home, but like all the other girls have said, don't tell the other wives too much, gossip is a horrible thing, especially in the Forces, and unfortunately, I've seen many relationships end due to it!

Thanks guys! I've heard horror stories so will be very careful with who I associate with when we're married. MQ is probably goona be on the cards for us because he is currently based in Germany and after that probably Scotland and because I live in the Midlands its not good for us. Plus like shirleygirly we want cheap accommodation so we can save for our own house. Its not for life for me cus he only wants to do a few years so I know that if I hate it too much I can move back home and wait for him, I've done it so far so a couple of extra years won't make a difference!

Keep the advice coming ladies cus newbies like me don't have a clue what's going to happen!

His last tour seen lots of his friends join the statistic or losing limbs and I spent the whole tour on a knife edge. Those phonecalls and skype sessions were my only comfort. Oooh I'm glad I searched for this :) My other half is in the American Airforce. He got deployed for the first time ever a few months back, luckily only for a couple of months. It felt like years though and he left just when we had started to plan the wedding! Luckily my mum helped do a lot of stuff, and he helped do a lot when he was back. It's difficult when they're gone though. Feels like a limb is missing. I'd love for his colleagues to be there on the big day with their swords... What's it called? The name escapes me!

I am grumpy today as H2b's date for coming back from deployment has changed again!!!
I know it is only by a few days but still annoying when you have a date in your head.
