In the shop i had to put my dress on over my head as i have a petticoat.. So once your hair and makeup is all done how easy is this going to be lol!

Any brides recently married got any tips as to not ruin the hair etc? Obviously im guna ask my hairdresser to stick around for tweaks plus to put my veil on after im in the dress.

    Thx ;-) x

I tried that in the shop and i struggled to do it that way lol :-/ they had to do it for me cos i picked the petticoat after i had the dress already on.. might give it another go tho as that was sample n my dress is alot shorter so not as much dress to shift around lol Xx

Not marries but I have a sort of plan to try out.

Going to arrange both my hoop and dress together on floor so that I step into both of them at the same time. Then as pulling both up, fit hoop before finalising dress.

That's how I get into mine Emily..... I pull the petticoat hoop up and my dress slides over it then. It gives you a clear space on the floor too if you put them both together.

If you can't get the dress up to put the petticoat on you might want to make sure you can lift it all high enough to go to the loo.

I will be stepoing into my dress and doing the hoop like the other ladies said. In one dress shop they put a chiffony scarf over my head to avoid getting any make up on the dresses as I tried them on so you could try this although that might not help with hair. X

I can't help with the petti coat but for going to the loo I am going to have a roll of black bin bags in the loo. you make a hole in the bottom just big enough to get your feet into, then pull up with your dress tucked inside. your dress is out of the way and then when you have done what you need to do just rip the bag off and your dress will fall back into place :)

I've seen that Mrs Thomson but wasn't sure if it would work for a big dress and train with a hoop. Doubt it would fit into a bi bag lol!

One idea I saw where the bride really didn't have a choice but to put the dress over her head is they just got some silk fabric and draped it around her head and very carefully she slide through the dress and hair was fine. Turned out its also a good way to stop makeup getting on it too.

Me personally. I will be doing the step-in method and try that hoop tick ;)

Arrange both on the floor and step into it. I stepped into mine but my dress had layers of tulle as the petticoat rather than having a separate petticoat under the dress.

So i tried the gather hoop and dress together step in pull hoop up then dress was a bit awkward and faffy but done it! (I tried it straight after my hair trial!)

Just means the petticoat needs more faffin with when on and once dress on also but thats nothing really! :-)

Have lots of practice getting into petticoat and dress until you feel comfortable and don't feel bad asking to keep trying as its your dress n u need to feel happy about getting into it as you don't want to threat about it on the run up to your wedding :) but I think idea of getting into dress n petticoat at same time is a great idea as you could get someone to hold the dress at waist while u put the petticoat in right place :)

I left dresd on the floor after i stepped in and just wiggled petticoat about then pulled dress uplol will be easier on the day as will have more space the "change room"(corner of the room with a curtain round) isnt vry big in the shop!

I have my 1st fitting 2nd july so will have another go then and try get better at it haha x

So. I was at my seamstresses the other day and for getting into the hoop she laid it on the floor then brought the dress over it and then had me step into both then had me shimmy into hoop followed by pulling up the dress. It was by far very easy to slip into than the idea of slipping the dress on first then the hoop or pulling the dress overhead

Definitely better to pop all on the floor and step into it, you should have help too from your bridesmaids.

At my next seamstress apppintment I have been told I need to make sure to bring one of my bridesmaids to ensure they know how to lace me up once I am in the dress. I've also got an idea that while the seamstress ties it BM will also video it so she has a visual step by step for one the day if in a bind.

Yep I'd get her to try it whilst you are having a fitting so they can show her how to do it. I knew my moh would not be able to do it on her own so my friend helped who is also a registrar and has helped many into their dresses.

Fingers crossed that all works out, I never thought about asking my hair/makeup artist if she knows how. I might drop it in conversation just to see in case my bridesmaid doesn't feel confident. The seamstress does advise that, for a small fee, she could come out and help me into the dress if I want it, hoop, lace it up and also bustle up the train (I don't want it all down and it looks lovely the way she bustles it)
