    Hi All,
I bought my dress back in January. Wedding isn't until Oct 2017 so was way in advance.

It has been stored, hanging in a dress bag that we got from the shop at my moms house since then and it isn't really a problem for them storing it.

The problem is that I want to get it out constantly and look at it and try it on. I have had it on me twice since buying and out the bag once more.

Now my question is should I leave it where it is at home or ask some bridal shops if we can pay to store it at their shop?
Do shops do this? and how much do they charge?

More importantly.. Do you think I need to or is it ok to try it on every now and then?

    Thanks for your help!

I personally wouldn't want mine is such easy reach as id be looking all the time, I bought mine a few months ago now and I've been back to try it on twice to show my bridesmaids who hadn't seen it but I don't plan on going back for a while, can you not check with the shop you bought it from? My dress shop is storing mine for free until I want to collect it which will be a few days before the wedding xx

I got it from an outlet shop so they wouldn't be able to have it. I haven't had it out in a couple of months but keep just wanting to go and look at it.

I have mine at home too, have since Feb, but I've only tried mine on once to show my mum. It it stored in the spare room but I haven't really been tempted to try it on as it's too big for me and I'm scared that OH will see it. Are there any relatives that could store it for you? I will be taking mine to my mum's soon to store it there until my fitting x

I'd be so tempted to put mine on all the time if I had it at home! The bridal store I've bought mine from will be storing mine for a small charge (I think £30?). I'm not sure if a bridal store would be willing to store your dress if it's not been bought from them but it's worth a shot, especially if you're paying for the privilege anyway. Might be worth sending a few emails out to see?

Mine is stored at the in laws house. I've tried it on once since I've had it home, just so I could see if the zip went up at the back as it didn't when I bought it :)

Mine is in LOs bedroom and I have tried it twice but to be honest, I only look once in a blue moon now..... I adore it still but the novelty of it being here has worn off.

Wow, I don't think I could manage if my dress was at home.
Can you ask a friend or relative to store it for you?

I had mine at home for 6 months nearly after I brought it back from the shop. I won't lie I had a peak at it occasionally but never actually took it out let alone wore it again until my first fitting with the seamstress and now she has it :)

Mine was stored at my parents and I just didn't want to get it out because I didn't want to accidently get any dirt on it lol.

The boutique I got mine from is tiny so no space to store it for me so I had no choice. I wouldn't want to pay for it to be stored elsewhere.

I wouldn't want to store it with a friend or family. The only people who will see it are my mom, dad and sister, all who live at home! A lot of other people have asked to see it so don't trust them not to peek (that sounds harsh I know but there aren't that many special women in my life so want to keep it minimal).

When we get our own house it won't be too bad because my dress will be staying at home.. It's just until then. Whenever I'm home alone I want to peek.

Arghhhh.. I must learn to have will power!

I kept mine at home for about 8 months until the last 6 weeks or so where I took it to an alterations shop for fitting. I looked at it a few times, I didn't see anything wrong with that, especially as looking at it was useful in helping me find shoes, veil, jewellery to compliment it etc.

I still have 2 years to go yet until my fittings start which is what's starting to worry me now. I will leave it where it is for now. I know its being stored correctly so that's not an issue and see how it goes.

    Thanks ladies x

I think you will get past the feeling of wanting to look all the time, I have because I know it hasn't been altered and I don't want to look at it so much that I don't love it anymore by the wedding x

I agree with Emma, my dress has been hanging on a hook in my mum and dads spare room since Feb - I've only put it on twice since then and that was to show my dad the dress - he obv wasn't with me when bought lol - and then again when my BM - she lives in London and was first time I'd seen her since xmas - came to visit.

Everytime I go over there now - 1/2 a week lol - I'm never tempted to try it on anymore. xx

ok, will power it is. It will be easier when I don't live at home but when I'm cleaning and go into their room and see it hanging there I want to go play! it is so perfect, even though it is far to long on me at the moment.

I tried it on once to show my dad and sister as soon as I got it home (regretted that instantly) Then got it out to try it with moms hoop but a friend came round unexpected so had to put it away. Then tried it with moms hoop finally. I needed to see if that was ok or I needed a petticoat.

everytime I buy something I want to try it on too! but I have been good and only done for my hoop as that was a vital try on to see if its ok or need to buy

It would be lovely to see it all together before the day just to make sure everything goes I think

I wouldn't want to keep mine at home! one is the space we only have a 1 bedroom apartment and 2nd I would want to try it on all the time, it is bad enough we have our wedding bands stored at home and I just want to put the ring on all the time, Have tried ring on twice and cant wait to wear it all the time. The shop said they will keep the dress till I need it thankfully. Christ knows where it will go once we are married, we are looking for a bigger apartment with at least 2 bedrooms so one can be turned into a dressing room! x

Where I'm hoping to get my dress from, she wouldn't be starting on making it until about 3-4 months before the date anyway, so I probably won't have it at home very long before our day rolls around...

Instead, with the look I'm going for, I want something to wear at least a few times afterwards; like at festivals and things!
