Has anybody ever experienced a groom who didn't like a dress?
I have a hefty portfolio of ideas and designs I would like for my dress and the other day the other half found it. He was casually flicking through commenting on things he did and dint like and found out he's actually quite fussy.
The whole picking the dress thing has suddenly become the last ting on my mind.
I don't want to play the whole "it's your dress who cares what he thinks" thing because I do care. I want him to look at me and have that 'wow' factor.
So much so I'm actually considering having him tag along with me to pick a dress........ :-/

Quite a few do this now. I used to watch dttb and ask him if he liked certain dresses or what type of dress he would like to see me in. He said he didn't know. He said he liked the one I chose though

My hubby used to say he liked simple, classic, plain dresses but for our wedding, my dress was blingy with a huge skirt, the sort of dress he usually didn't like. But he loved my dress. Just because he doesn't like certain styles in pictures, it doesn't necessarily mean he wouldn't like it on you. Wedding dresses look so different on than in pictures. But completely up to you whether you want h2b to help pick your dress, a lot of people do nowadays. Maybe ask if he wants to choose together, see what he thinks? X

Do you have an idea what he does like?

I knew what my fiancé liked, but didn't think I would go for it as wasn't sure I'd be comfortable. When I was trying dresses on, one of the first things I thought when I tried THE one on, was ''He is going to love this'' I said that as well and although my mum said ''but remember he is a geek'' my Auntie said about how you do want that wow factor for him... and also my mums comment about him being a geek was a bit silly anyway, as my dress shows off my figure which is why he'll love it... anyone would think I was planning on walking down the aisle dressed as bat girl or in a lab coat.

Also... although it's up to you whether you want him to go shopping with you for the dress.... I would sort of advise against it if you are wanting that ''wow'' factor on the day-as if he's already seen you in the dress, surely that will take away from the wow factor slightly when he first see's you?

He doesn't like the 'mesh' or 'netting' on dresses. He doesn't like the fabric. Which isn't the best because I wanted an open back looking dress, it's hard to explain- i didn't know how to insert a photo so here is a link to the kind of thing I'm looking at.
I love the heavy lace top with a soft netting that goes down an aline skirt with a lace around the trim. Basically I want all net and he hates net. Lol.

I want to take him but I don't want to lose that 'wow' factor. I know it sounds fussy.... I just wish he wouldn't have said anything.

I'd suggest going and trying some dresses on (maybe not yet if you don't want to as you do have a while yet, but also if you want to go now go for it) try on that style and try on some different styles. You might find you don't like that style once you try it on, or if you love it and makes you look and feel amazing then that will shine through and he probably wouldn't even notice if you wore a dress he specifically said he didn't like.

When you walk down the aisle he's not going to be looking at your dress, he's going to be looking at you and if you are walking down there full of confidence and feeling amazing, you will look amazing, especially to him.

You could always take him, he can choose some dresses, then you make the choice and make a surprise for him.

Glitter fairy, I was going to suggest a something similar. But I was going to say have a look online, most bridal shops have a website where they put a lot of there dresses. You could look at then together and see what he likes then go shopping. So u have a idea of what he likes but the dress is still a surprise. X

That's an idea but it might be that he might like a style on a model, but in reality he may not, just like many other brides feel like. I've seen it on say yes where they've been there but left before the final choice.

Lots of brides actually go dress shopping with their grooms now, I don't think it's quite so frowned upon as it used to be! I wouldn't worry though.. I would pick what YOU want (obviously bare in mind his opinion, but it's not the be all and end all). On the day you will completely wow him in whatever you wear because it's YOU, you will look beautiful and he will be about to marry you!! xx

Thanks ladies, we sat down and talked last night and drew me a little design he would like to see but he said the same as you- that he doesn't care what I'm wearing because he knows he'll be blown over. Which for him is a Very sweet thing to say.

Ahhh that's nice. I wouldn't be surprised if he loved you even in the dress he would not like you to get. He'll love it purely for you being in it.

Everyone is right in what they've said. The dress is important to us girls but lets face it our grooms wouldn't care if we wore a LBD! They will be amazed regardless. You could show him a picture of THE dress (when) you've chosen and he could say he didn't like it, but would LOVE it on YOU! It totally different to see in person, and for them to see it on the woman they love :)

Don't forget looking at pics is totally different to looking at you looking a million dollars! He won't be looking at the dress he will be looking at how amazing you look in the dress! You'll pic the dress that makes you look the best version of you so you can't go wrong!

I'm looking at the alfred Angelo Snow White, a bit of a different vibe considering our theme is shabby chic/vintage but I have fallen in love!

That is a beautiful dress, I loved the sleeping beauty one from that range (with the purple flowers on) when I tried it on it didn't suit me though, made me look really short and frumpy. It just cut me off at the wrong place.

Have you got somewhere that stocks the range near you?

Apparently so but I called this morning and they have none in stock so he's making a few calls and hopefully il get to see it in real life next week. I really hope it fits as I'm a strange short of shape.... I'm 5"11 with large chest small with weird jutty out hips. Not quite an hourglass, kind of an upside down triangle with. Square tushee. Lol.
    There's an image for you.

Anyway I desperately want an a line number but I'm scared it'll fit weird on me. I just want to put one on and know its the one.

Just go with an open mind, try on loads of different styles, you will find the right one for you

and if you don't find one you like in the first shop, don't feel disheartened.

I felt awful after going in my first shop, all the dresses looked awful on me, they weren't horrible dresses, they just didn't suit me... except for one, which looked nice.... I honestly thought I was going to have to go for the ''nice'' one as nothing else looked right on me. I had another appointment booked that day so feeling disheartened I went off to the other shop, she told me to pick out all the one's I wanted to try on and as I was walking around saying ''ooo that's lovely, but it's this style so it won't suit me'' she was picking them up saying, try it on anyway-you never know.

Anyway-EVERY dress I tried on in that shop was gorgeous and I felt great in, there were just little bits I picked out from each one that I liked... after I'd finished, she pulled another one out and asked me to try it on. I knew straight away it was the one, as she was doing the back up I said ''Ash is going to love this'' and I felt amazing in it.

So sorry, I got sidetracked but the moral of my story is don't get down if you don't feel comfortable in the dresses to start off with, keep hunting and you will find the one that suits you and that makes you feel just as amazing as you deserve.

I had the exact same wobble before I got married. I had bought my dress and then watching DTTB one day hubby commented on a dress that was really similar to mine saying it wasn't what he'd choose.

Ladies on here reassured me and they (as always) were right, hubby loved the dress on me! It's about what it looks like on you, everyone is different and each dress looks different on different people.
