We have chosen a large village Hall for our reception so we can afford to invite everyone we want and not have to cap numbers due to costs.

The hall is situated in a tiny village, almost entirely owned by the Lady of the village estate, so it is a beautiful picturesque location with stunning views in every direction. The hall is the biggest I have ever seen which is excellent for us as we have large families totaling almost 100, before we even begin with friends!

My issue with decorating is that the ceilings are so high we would have to hire a cherry picker or similar to hang anything from it! Looking at previous pictured in the hall's wedding album, we saw some beautifully decorated weddings. When we asked the lady showing us around, she said the only way to achieve this is with an indoor marquee.

I have so far emailed 3 different companies. Only one has actually responded (in around 6 months!) he sent me his website address and one picture of an indoor marquee, which was apparently one of his marquees in our hall, but in all honesty, it looked very small. I wonder whether the marquee only filled part of the hall? Also, it looked to have "walls" I would prefer drapes, perhaps with fairy lights? I have emailed again explaining this and asking whether it is just the one marquee he has to use in this particular hall. No reply!

I wonder whether there is a lack of urgency to respond due to the wedding being 20 months away, but at £900 of our budget I want to ensure this is exactly what I am looking for and big enough to hold all our seated guests, the dance floor etc and has access to bar and buffet areas (which are semi separate)

I have no experience with hall dressing or marquees. Am I looking for the right thing? Am I asking the right questions? Are they adjustable to fit most venues and are their different styles? How long do you wait before giving up on a supplier, because I am not willing to take risks on unreliability, but I obviously don't NEED to book or start looking for other options tomorrow! It may help to know I am in North Devon, so I am not going to have hundreds or suppliers to choose from, but obviously want the right one!

Thanks in advance for any help and advice.

Hi, I got married 10 days ago and we had our reception in a village hall with an indoor marquee too. We originally wanted the hall lining bit because the village hall committee didn't want us screwing anything into the walls they suggested an indoor marquee instead. As far as I understand they have set frame sizes and we were lucky that our hall was just the right size to get one of their frames in and also left a bit of room down one side to store boxes etc. It looked absolutely stunning when it was finished and you couldn't tell you were in a village hall at all! So yes. An indoor marquee is the right thing that you're asking for.

Here are a few pics of ours...

Wow, it's stunning! I spent a while on google and found another 2 companies. One sent an automated response to let me know they had received my message and the other sent me actual pictures of indoor marquees in our actual village hall, which look beautiful, very similar to yours, so it's definitely what I am looking for. Thanks so much for your help :-)

I love these, my friend did this where the ceiling lining of the marquee was black with twinkling lights to make it look like the night sky xx

That looks really pretty, JY. I think it's something that is always hard to imagine in your head, but once you see it all set up it all makes sense. Love the idea of having twinkly lights as well x
