    hi

so i was at a bridal fair months ago and iv looked at 100's of dresses online and at fairs etc and i saw a dress on the catwalk and just fell in love with it i just knew it was THE dress! but i knew i wanted to lose weight before i went and tried on dresses etc but i just knew i loved it so i discussed it with my mum and she said if thats the dress then get it (bearing in mind i had no intention of trying it on until iv lost some weight) plus iv always known whats suited me like i can walk into a shop and just pick something up and not try it on and just buy it because i know what i like and what suits me.

so went to the boutique where they sold the dress and i explained to the lady that i wasn't comfortable with trying on dresses but i know what dress i want (I'm not huge i just have my own insecurities and want to drop like 2 dress sizes and the thought of someone helping into a dress that i don't know just panics me)
so she said that was fine they could order the dress in, in the size that i wanted to be plus she said because its a corset back she said i have lee-way of 1 size up and 1 size down, i also bought my bridal shoes from the same shop.

my dress arrived in and i got it hime the other day and once again i fell in love with it, its the most beautiful dress iv ever seen.....but heres the snag thats got me a flustered!......

while i was at a group i attend once a week last night a woman who was there i got chatting to and she's getting married also and she was talking about her dress etc when i said i had got my dress already and hadn't tried it on and was losing weight for it etc she just kept saying that she couldn't believe i would do something so stupid and that she has tried on over 50 dresses and that buying it before trying it on won't work because it won't fit right and it would need alterations like she was hardcore and was coming on really strong with her criticisms i just smiled and said it would be fine but inside i was panicking my heart out!

my best friend said the boutique wouldn't have sold it to me if they thought there would be so many problems with it etc but I'm still just really worried now!

has anyone else done this? any opinions or advice??

    thank you

    xx

Don't worry yourself. A good seamstress will be able to make it perfect for you whether it's too big or too small. And you won't need that done until a few month before. And you will know more then what size you'll be around the wedding.
And you know yourself what suits you and what doesn't so don't worry about not trying any other dresses on.
I think she's being a bit harsh by saying you should have done this and that. Everyone's different and you have to go with what you want and what you feel comfortable with.
Don't let other people get into your head because that's when you start doubting what you've done and it can start to become a stressful experience rather than enjoyable. Xx

I agree, don't listen to this woman, you seem to be very confident in what your body suits etc, and you only need fittings between 10-6 weeks before wedding, to make sure everything is a perfect fit, length etc

I'm also the kind if person tgat I know what suits me although I'm going dress shopping on monday I was tempted to just buy an ex sample dress without trying it on! Don't forget many many brides buy dresses from China without even seeing them let alone trying them on and yiu have the flexibility with the corset.
I'm also like you in that I know I can lose weight fairly easily and therefore I'd be happy to buy a dress that is currently a little small.
This women is clearly quite outspoken but don't listen to her.

Ps: I bet your dress is amazing!! Xx

Stupid woman putting her own insecurities onto you! I would just totally ignore her! You do what's best for you! I'm sure your dress will look great! All the dresses I picked to try on we're ones I knew I could wear for my shape the lady in the bridal shop said I had picked really well and everything I had picked is what she would pick put for my shape. So when you know your shape well there's no reason you can't order without trying on! Plus seamstresses can do absolutely anything with alterations! I keep watching crappy American shows on tlc channel where everyone buys these amazing sample gowns at really cheap prices but then the seamstress has to work wonders it's anazing what they can do to make stuff fit! So either way no need to panic!

    thank you ladies!

you don't understand how much you guys have put my mind at ease!
and my mum kept saying it will be fine but mums have to say that and now that iv got some feedback from brides to be, i try not to listen to people like that woman but when it involves something like my wedding dress its hard not to let it get to me, especially seeing as i wasn't planning on trying it on properly until next year when i was at target/near target weight and then that wouldn't of left very long to start the dress search again!
    thanks again ladies xxx

Ignore the silly moo. Everyone is different so if it's your perfect dream dress don't let her take away the shine.

I bought my wedding dress and it was a few sizes too small and already had a corset. I took it to an alterations shop, and they made all the alterations required. I too panicked, as I wasn't sure it could be done, but it could, and it looked great

Here's the thing chick.......olnly very few women can buy a dress that does not need altered at all. if you are one of them you won a watch. regardless of whether or not you tried the dress on your dress will probably need alteartions, darts around the boobs or a nip tuck at the waist or hem line lifted etc. tell the old witch to get lost and gtake her negativity to someone who give a flying S***.

you love your dress and that is all that matters and I am sure you will look stunning in it xx

Wow... this lady sounds a bit craaazy... I would never presume to tell another bride her decisions were stupid. Like it has already been said above the boutique would not have sold it to you unless they were confident it would fit.
