Ok so it took me 5 years (since we got engaged until April this year) to FINALLY find my dress for our wedding in September. My dress is nothing like I imagined I would choose and has a tulle skirt which I didn't think I'd go for but I feel sooo princessy in it! Anyway we've been watching Gavin and Stacey tonight and when someone comes on TV in a wedding dress I always ask him
What he thinks of it...and he said he didn't like the 'cheap, nasty, net skirt' on her dress!' It's similar to mine and now I'm panicking! I was already a bit nervous about it as he hates lace and it has lace shoulders and a lace back (and I also have a lace-edged veil) so I'm worried he's going to take one look at me and wonder what on earth I'm wearing! He can be very opinionated and judgemental and this is worrying me so much! I can't afford to get another dress and I've totally fallen in love with this one anyway...but really want him to love it as much as I do! Now thinking should I get a cheaper, plainer dress to wear at the reception that he'll definitely like? Or just have this one and risk it? What would you guys do? Xx

Every dress looks different on every woman. The 2 dresses above are different IMHO.

Once h2b sees you in your dress he will think your gorgeous in it.

Try not to worry about it and stop asking what he thinks f dresses as your going to drive yourself mad thinking he will hates your dress.

You love the dress so wear it.

I worry about this all the time...to the point where my h2b has refused to answer any more questions about wedding dresses that we see! I did exactly the same as you...I thought I was getting a lace a-line dress with NO bling and i was adamant that I wasn't having strapless...what I have ended up with is a dress with a LOT of detail (very sparkly!) sort of fishtail and strapless! when I talked about the type of dress i originally wanted with the OH he totally agreed with me, especially the no bling part...and i kept thinking he was going to hate the flower...

But I have decided its pointless...i picked the dress for a reason, the reason being that even though my original 'dream' dress looked lovely on it didn't look as good as the dress i eventually picked...i feel like i look amazing in the dress I have picked and i am sure that he will think so too on the day!

Just so you can compare the dress i thought I wanted was Justin Alexander 8630 and the dress I have is Ronald Joyce 'Belen' and looks much more amazing in real life than in the pics...so totally different!

it will be FINE your dress is gorgeous :) xx

Oh and for a male opinion I just showed by fiancé the dresses and told him what you were worried about and he said they're the same colour and that's about it. (He also thinks your dress is much nicer)

I don't think the dresses are similar either, yours is gorgeous and your hubby will love if because you're wearing it and you will look stunning in it!

I'm like Kitty, wasn't going for blingy or strapless as h2b wasn't sure he'd like that style on me,but of the ones I've tried and liked, 2 are strapless with a lot of bling lol

You love your dress and feel amazing in it so wear it! Xx

Your dress is lovely and looks nothing like the other one.

I think that once your huibby sees you he will love you in it. Maybe he is saying this as it's not you wearing the dress, it's a whole different story when they see their bride wearing one.

Thankyou all so much! I honestly can't tell you how much better you've made me feel! Looking at the dresses again , you're right..I suppose they're not that alike afterall...the material is the same in the skirt but that's where the similarities end, so as long as he can see past the material that should be fine! I was picturing getting something ivory, strapless, satin, with a lace up back and a little bit of detail, which I know is the sort of dresss he also likes, but that sort of dress just didn't wow me at all! I have ended up with the total opposite! White, with shoulders, satin and tulle, with a button up back, with detail at the back and barely any at the front! I do feel amazing in it though and like a proper bride!

Kitty and Debbie, it's good to knoe you did the same and went for the total opposite of what you first imagined...kitty, both those dresses are stunning but I do really love the detail in the one you've gone for! Wow!

Donna, Thankyou also for telling me your H2B's opinion, that has reassured me a lot too! Hopefully I can stop thinkng about it now and get on with sorting everything else out!

Your dress is absolutely stunning. I was the same, had an idea in my head of what I wanted and would suit - once I tried them on I looked awful and didn't do me any justice at all. I never dreamed I would pick a net type princess skirt but that's the one I have fallen for xx

I think your dress is much nicer than the one he didn't like. If you've fallen in love with it that's all that matters, and if you look stunning in it that's all that will matter to him. I absolutely love your dress, but I would never have gone for the Gavin and Stacey one.

I don't think you should worry joey... I keep doing the same with my h2b, showing him pics etc, and I've even managed to slip a pic of my dress in there because he's seen that many he'd never know it was mine anyway lol ... He said he wasn't overly keen on how big it was but then I think he'll love it when he sees it, as my dad,mum and sis all love it! Plus he loves you not the dress xx

Well he loved my dress on me on the day. He'll love your dress on you and I think your dress is nicer the than one you showed on TV xx

Your dress is gorgeous, do not worry about what your H2b will think, I have the same problem with my H2B he has very different opinions about what kind of dress he likes and and has made comments about magazine photos ive shown him getting his opinion, i've given up worrying now, if you are happy with your choice and you love your dress ( why wouldn't you it is gorgeous :) then wear it with pride, your confidence will shine through and i'm sure when your H2B sees you in it he will love it.

This is the exact same issue that I have just had. It's quite bizarre actually. I bought a dress very much like yours and it is completely different to what I thought I would go for and I asked my OH what he would like on me and he said that he'd like something sleek and classy... which I don't necessarily class mine as. It's a beautiful dress, but it's bigger than I thought it would be!

But seriously, don't worry. I'm sure that we will both look lovely on the day!!

Thanks girls! Yes I need to just stop worrying about it...it's bought and paid for now anyway so there's no going back! There will always be that little part of me that will be nervous about it until I see his face and I know he thinks I look amazing though!

Rimmy, yes that is the exact situation I'm in! My OH keeps saying he pictures me in something sleek and classy too...and it's not that my dress isn't classy, it's just that I feel it's more princessy and floaty than he'd imagine. It's the tulle bit that is sooo worrying as he turns his nose up at almost every dress with a Tulle skirt but like so many people have said, he hasn't seen ME in any of them. So yes we will both be gorgeous and give them a wonderful surprise! I'll let you know the verdict after the wedding day, then hopefully you'll be able to relax before yours if my OH loves mine! Xx

Your dress is so much more beautiful than the pic from Gavin and Stacey! Plus you have the lace going on too which takes focus away from the bottom of the dress and towards the top of it and you, so your h2b will love it, I am sure! I know what you are going through though as I am exactly the same! When I ask my h2b about dresses he says he can imagine me in a really tight fitting Grecian type gown that is really simple and classy, this is nothing like what I've gone for (pics are in an album on my profile). Mine has loads of detailing and bead work plus lace (which he refers to as looking like table cloths), but do you know what, I don't really care anymore. I love my dress and out of all the dresses I tried on it was the one that made me feel most beautiful (which is a hard task as I have major body issues!), and for that reason I know he will love it, because he will see that I feel happy and confident in it :) xxx
