that to me seem's really dear. Their is a professional baker featured in the deb hams catalogue (for up here in scotland) that would do a 4 tier for that price.

personally I would look at others near you, if i were you

We did think about making our own but dont think the stress will be worth it, as we're only have 50 guests we can get away with a two tier cake which should be around £300, a lot of money for one cake but it will be fab

We had looked at cakes in shops and we were going to pay £190 for a 3 tier heart shaped cake now we have found sombody that can do a 3 tier square one for £90. We looked at a lot of places to get ours at the right price we were even thinking of going to marks for it but found this other lady on gumtree. xx

I was quoted £150 for a 3 tier square fruit cake from a friend... i thought that was steep for a cake considering they already had the equipment to make it etc..

My mum seemed to reckon that was quite good as bakerys charge 3 times that just because its a wedding cake!

I would ring round places and see if you can get some other quotes before you decide hun! xxx

Are you having fruitcake or sponge? If sponge then ingredients are very very little in price! I make cupcakes and worked out that ingredient wise i spent about 12p on each cake!

I think mayber you should have a look around because although she is a friend, it sounds like she may be ripping you off... or has no idea what she is doing! xx

It sounds like you are getting high quality ingredients for your wedding cake. Is it hand nurtured wheat flour grown in the rich soil of Norwich with a constant 5 knot nor/norwestaly breeze. Hand ground by Patagonian virgins on the third Tuesday of the month?

You can hire the tins so there is no need to buy them. My local cake shop hires any shape for a couple of quid a day. No point in getting her to buy the tins for you to never use them again. Also if she buys a box of icing from a cake shop it works out cheaper than if you were to buy lots of packets from the supermarket etc. You could even buy ready made fruit cakes in your shape for £10 for a 10 inch cake and then just ice them!

oooo hang on. Just read she is charging for marzipan but you don't have that on a sponge cake. You stick the icing down with apricot glaze.

it depends on whether your having a fruit cake as dried fruit for a cake that size can cost a lot, along with things like eggs the cost can soon go up. my mum used to make wedding cakes and she had to charge 400 pounds or more just to make a bit of profit after she had payed for the ingredients and the time it takes to make it. i find people dont realise the work that can go in to a cake of that size. xx

Vixie i know the kind of work that goes into any kind of cake as i am a chef & have studied pastry & that involved cake making, even one of my assesments was making a cake, i know the time & effort that goes into them & no i am not having fruit as i said earlier because i cant stand it and asked for sponge & chocolate

Its all sorted now anyways, my friend is going to take me to the cake wharehouse she goes to & we can price the cake up there & then

im makin my parents silver wedding cake this weekend and its a 2 tier vanilla sponge and ive just bought the ingredients today and spent £25 on ingredients and £10 on decoration things. the cake tins i dont have but have hired for £20(deposit which i get bk) so thats £40 for the 2 and then its £1 a day. so for the time i need them for it will cost me £6 in total to hire 2 tins.

if ya friend has given u that quote she has added some on for a profit. i work things out for ingredients then work out how long its gonna take to make it and add some on.
