I'm getting married in April 2016 and I like to be super organised. The only thing I have left to get is my dress and I have been looking for 'the one' in several places over the last few months.
On Saturday, I went to a boutique and completely fell in love with a dress which is absolutely perfect for me...but with one snag, the price tag. I should have known better as it is a designer gown and I had been looking at dresses with a much lower price tag as my gran has very kindly offered to pay for my dress. Our budget was (including alterations) £1500 and this dress alone is another £1000 on top of this! I feel like I could probably afford to pay the extra on my own but I wouldn't want to upset my gran as she has always said she would pay for my dress.
How much was/is your budget for your dress and am I being absolutely crazy for considering such extravagance?

I am on a very low budget and trying to stick to £2500 for the whole wedding, but if you can afford that and it is your dream dress then go for it. I am sure your gran wouldn't mind you paying the extra if it was something you love, could you come to an agreement with her about it? Maybe ask her how much she was thinking of spending and if it is lower than what the dress is you could add the rest? x

We didn't really have a budget for my dress but I didn't want to go mad. Our budget is around £6000 for the whole wedding. My dress was £350 that I paid in full as I got tiara and veil with that. I have to pay £150 for alterations when I pick my dress up for the day so £500 in total x

I think if you love it do it.....Like the others have said, perhaps speak to your gran and see what she thinks. Im sure if she knows its what you want she would repect that and want you to go for it..
I didnt want to spend more than £1000 and the dress im having is £600 but i do need to have it taken up and perhaps accesssories yet :-)

Thanks ladies, I will speak to her and see how she feels. I'm in two minds about the dress as it was gorgeous and I felt amazing as soon as I had it on but the money worries me. I spoke to my fiancé and he said if I loved it I should buy it but I'm normally a bargain hunter and it's certainly not a bargain!
I never had a budget with my dress, I found one, liked it and fortunately my friend gave me a huge discount, but even so I think I would have managed it as was able to pay in instalments.
I think if you explain to your nan that you've found a dress you love but it is over the budget and that you would pay the extra which is over your original budget. That way she still gets to pay the majority of it. I'm sure she will understand.

I'm sure your nan would be fine with you paying the extra if it's a dress that you really love! At the end of the day, your wedding is a special day and doesn't happen every day, so if you can afford it and if you'd regret not going for it, I would go for it. By the way in can't believe you have everything sorted apart from the dress.. That is super organised!!

Thanks. I will speak to her and see what happens. I'm sure she won't mind but I just worry that it's a huge amount of money for one day but honestly, I've never loved an item of clothing so much as I normally buy stuff that's in the sale!
Flossie, I know! One of my friends gets married this April and she's still got stuff to do and I'm all done except for the dress! I like being organised, I'm a teacher so it's in my nature I guess.

I like being organised too but I've still got loads to do (I'm June 2016). I've done all the 'key' things and we have decided on everything now, just a case of putting money aside and paying things off bit by bit! Well done you though!
It is a lot of money for one day, buuuuut, that day is never going to happen again. If you can afford it I don't see why you shouldn't go for it :) you don't want to regret not buying it on the day x

And to be honest, even if you decided to stick with your budget, nothing will compare to the dress, so I think go for it.

I think it is good to have the budget set…but also good to have the wiggle room for when you fall in love. I won mine so no budget necessary on that particular wedding item, but originally my budget was £1500. Tried on an Ellie Saab at a sample sale that was £2500 as is and literally stood staring at myself for a good hour. 1 friend was saying get it…as were lovely strangers in the store, but I wasn't POSITIVE and the budget difference made me say..i need to think about it. An hour later and i felt like leaving was the right thing. Knowing the budget was being exceeded made me think a little harder, but if I'd fallen in love…I would've gone for it and figured the rest out later…. does that make sense?

Your budget is however much you're willing to spend, everyone has different financial situations. Personally I'd never have spent that much but it is about you, some ladies will spend more, others less.
If you think it's the one and you can stretch to it then go for it.

Depends on your budget and how much to live the dress i guys. I would never spend that much. You may be able to get something very similar for much less.
