    Hi girls,

well, we have put the deposit down on our cake this week, but am starting to think that its too much money. The cake is costing us £390, it is three separate cakes, all different flavours. I thought this was a good price but everyone ive told say its too much money... what do you think?

We were looking at getting ours from M&S and decorating ourselves but still cant decide, so many places and designs to choose from and the prices vary too. Loving the 3 or 4 different flavoured tiers idea.

we were quoted £245 just for 3 sponge cakes with red icing! very simple as I can decorate it myself but e-mailed a pic of exactly what I want to a couple of shops! We might make one ourselves or buy a simple sponge cake and decorate it ourselves

We were going to get one from either m&s or waitrose as ive tried both at two of my friends wedding and they were such a bargain and you can decorate them yourself or have them decorated. Id deffo recommend them as you'll get a tasty cake that wont cost the earth for it :D

My lovely auntie because we love cheesecake and are on a tight budget has offered to do a three tier various flavours cheesecakes so were happy with that :D xx

Kye which one did you prefer? waitrose or M&S? My mum offered to pay for our cake, but just coming to my wedding from France, and staying over here for over a week, buying her outfit and giving us money as present will cost her so much that I don't want her to pay more than £150.

We ordered ours in January and picking it up three days before the wedding. We're having an open book (see pic on profile - but with our names and slightly different wording), and we paid £117 which includes ribbon and bride/groom cake toppers as well.

Heya lysblanc yeah i understand hun. Well i personally preferred the m&s cake and my friends dad whos a chef in the catering business highly recommended to us the cake too as it was affordable and lovely tasting.

Pricier ones-The waitrose cakes are around £95-£100 for a soft iced wedding cake two tier (sponges you can have fruit or sponge or both) it served about 60 ppl at my friends wedding. They go up in price the more fancier u want it. You can see the list of wedding cakes on their website.

Cheaper ones-The m&s cake my best friend had that was a bargain was the 3 tier wedding cake which was £55 and she mix and matched the flavour sponges and it was lovely! But if you want something more fancy then they have the range and i think the most expensive is £200 they also do cupcakes : )

    Hope that helps! xxx

Thanks Kye, so far between Marks & S and Wait rose all the reviews go more on favour of Marks, next month I am having a housewarming/dinner party for most of bms and ushers they're my best of friends, so will order the smaller sponge plain Marks cake as dessert bargain at only £12 for a dessert for over 15 people and it caters for 22 people anyway so if the 19 people I have invited all come we'll still be good and I will have a go at making marzipan flowers myself, or nice little decoration, I love baking and would have love to do my wedding cake myself but my mum refuses and offered to pay, so will do that. I've checked also and marks&s has got also cheesecakes, anyone tried them?

We are getting both our wedding cakes for free, my mum is buying us one from M&S as she works there and they are yummy, and my MIL2b is making the other one, a 3 tier fruit cake with pastel lemon, green and pink icing. I will be very busy on the day testing both thoroughly, lol. But as far as the cost of yours, we were originally going to pay £350 for a bird cage cake and were happy with that cost so no I don't think you are paying too much. People don't realise how much work actually goes into making one and it is labour as well as the ingredients that you are charged for, they have to make a profit after all! :) xx

I'm not paying for mine but if I was it would cost over £400. I've been told that for a 3 tiered cake to charge people £300 basic, then depending on the decorations add more. I've just made a wedding cake for someone (photo is in my album) and what people don't always realise is that I've just spent the best part of 2 days decorating it alone, plus baking time. Add together the ingredients cost and an hourly wage for the decorating and you've got yourself an expensive cake!!! It's not just the physical item you pay for it's the skill that also goes into it.
