I know this can vary greatly from cake to cake but generally how much am I looking at spending on a cake?? theres one I want so badly, I dont think I'm allowed to say where its from but its a well known place and its all chocolate anyway I knew they would be expensive but when I contacted them for a quote I nearly fell over when they told me!! And this has made me realise, actually I've not a clue how much to expect to spend on a cake!!

(sorry if there is a post similar to this one, I'm new and there are so many posts to look at but I havent come across one yet)

Could you not find a cake decorator locally and get them to do the one you want, it may be cheaper, not sure on how much they are as Sil2b is doing ours for us xx

    hi and welcome to UKB!
cakes can be rediculously overpriced!! it is a hame you aret in norfolk as i know someone who does amaizing cakes at a reasonable price! my advice is to keep looking around. thereare a lotof independant peopl who make some beautiful cakes at the fraction of the cost of some bakerys/cake makers! if the cake you want isnt too extravagent why not try making it yourself? there is a good cake making mag out that tells you how to do the little flowers/decorations and even how to properly ice it. I If i hadnt of found that cake maker it is what I would be doing! :) x

Obviously it depends on how many tiers, what decoration etc, but i'd say you're looking at around £400. Wedding cakes are very pricey! xxx

Good thinking, I will have a look! I didnt really think about it because its all craft work with chocolate but I guess if you can do craft work with sugar paste etc then you must be able to do it with chocolate too, I shall investigate, thank you :) x

Just seen the other replies now! Well the quote I got today was £995!! so £200 and even £400 is a lot better lol! It is elaborate tho, i was expecting it to be pricey and like I say its all chocolate, all the decs are belgian chocolate (they have a telly programme this shop) and I was expecting to be quote a high price but I was thinking more £700 not a grand!! x

I think i know the company you mean...they are ridiculously expensive. I think they cater to celebrities. But that's way too expensive. If you go to a local cake maker, they might be able to make a similar one? And it'll be cheaper because you're not paying for the name xxx

Nicola, alot really does depend on the style of cake.. how many tiers, if its cupcakes or mini cakes etc etc. I have sent you a friend request incase you want to ask more.
Choccywoccy are very expensive purely because of the man hours that go into each cake. But personally i think if you find the right cake decorator you can have chocolate fondant with chocolate flowers etc etc x

I do always pick the most expensive things!! I watch the programme and I've been to their chocolate cafe thing before so I've always wanted one and like I say I know I would have to pay for one of those cakes but I didnt think I'd have to pay that much but yes I will definitely look into finding someone locally and seeing what they can do! If not m&s look like a good choice! Thanks for the friend request :) I see you got married on Saturday!! Congratulations, i hope you had an amazing day!! x

lol, it is true, i know how much effort they put into their cakes but I still nearly died when I got the email through for the price!! I dont mind spending a little extra on the cake because one of the packages at the venue we are looking at has only a 2 course menu (they have a 3 course one as well but its a hell of a lot more and the only difference is the 2 and 3 courses) so i thought if I got a really nice cake then people could have that instead and I will get a sweet cart as well for later but a grand?? That is stupid!! I would expect to pay that for a dress not a cake lol x

it pays to shop around. i know wedding fares are pants but sometimes they can be great for price comparisons and also u can get a few bargains. we ended up getting our 3 tier sponge cake for £120 plus a mini 36 piece fruit cake decorated the same as the main cake for the older people who prefer fruit cake for £12.

And I am thinking about getting an M&S cake too, we have £100 worth of vouchers from sky when we joined them, so it would make the cake much cheaper for us! xxx

We have been quoted between £330 and £650 from different cake makers, don't know why but have found the cake to be the hardest of everything so far. Can't wait to put deposit down and then its done.

My advice is shop around and do your research, come include set up and delivery others don't.
