I won't have fruit cake as part of my wedding cake. I will probably pick up one from the big orange or blue supermarket to be cut for those that think it isn't a real wedding without one.
CommentAuthorWhovianbride
same here, I hate it, Im planning on having different flavoured layers, chocolate, vanilla and other, thinking orange but not decided will have to test flavours when we look for cake maker

Sounds like a good plan. I'm always dissappointed when the entire cake is fruit cake :(
We're having Guiness and chocolate... A beautiful chocolate cake that isn't rich and sickly. A Victoria sponge layer, and an apple and cinnamon. This is amazing. Loved the flavours so much we went for the main too we wanted and a crowd pleaser
CommentAuthorBeverleyW66
Eugh, I hate fruit cake, we have gone for cupcakes instead, in eight yummy flavours to include raspberry and white chocolate, cherry bakewell, forest fruits and chocolate orange.
Can't wait to see our cupcake tower all set up, it's going o be fab

We are having a cupcake tower too! Our plan is to have lemon drizzle cupcakes topped with multi-coloured icing then on the top we will have a big sponge cake to cut for the pics (have about 7 thin sponges all different colours as a nod to the LGBT community) and ice it up in blue and silver somehow!! :)

what ever we have it has to be gluten free so it will be plenty heavy enough to support itself ;)
Tradition is not for us ;)

I like fruit cake and marzipan - my fiancé likes fruit cake but can't stand marzipan so I think we may ask my aunt if she can make a fruit cake without marzipan between the cake and the icing (like she does for her Christmas cake) Alternatively, we might ask her if she could make a sponge cake instead.
CommentAuthorBeckyU98
we are having our top tier as a little fruit cake as we are going to do the traditional thing and keep it. rest of cake is white chocolate fudge cake, chocolate, red velvet and madeira x

Our top tier is fruit, as a couple of our guests like fruit cake. The other 3 tiers and our cutting cake will be different flavours though, as we don't like fruit cake, likewise most of our younger guests.
CommentAuthorMrsCross2be
Cant stand fruit cake so it will be nice flavoured sponge to use as a dessert in the evening for us.

We are having a three tier sponge cake in three different flavours. Bottom tier madiera, middle chocolate and the top tier caramel. H2b would have had the whole cake in caramel if I had let him :)
CommentAuthorStaceyP91
See cuz were having a tiered cake, not on the stands I thought with the top tier being fruit, it would be too heavy for the top, hence why we have gone for the bottom :) probs me just being silly haha

I spent 30 years vowing that I wouldn't have fruit cake as I don't like marzipan and am not that keen on fruit cake. I was determined to have chocolate cake. My mum was fairly certain that I should have one as tradition to the point that I threatened to have her frisked on the way in, just in case she was hiding one somewhere. Turns out FIL doesn't likke Chocolate Cake though so we ended up compromising and having two cakes. I told my mum there was only going to be a fruit cake at my wedding if she made it though. Good job shes amazing at that then!!!
CommentAuthorTop Cat
We're having a middle tier of fruit cake but the small tier has to be gluten free, tho my fave will be the bottom tier of chocolate sponge with chocolate buttercream !! MMMMMMMMM love it.

We didn't opt for fruit cake we chose other flavours instead that more people would eat x
CommentAuthorLynD
we had a 3 tiered sponge cake.... but I made a fruit cake in case people liked it (made it in March, got married in August). Instead of ordinary Brandy though I put in Apricot Brandy (didn't have any plain) - oh my days did that smell good (and tasted good too - so much so it all went :)
CommentAuthorRuthW61
We are having 4 tiers all fruit cake... We both love it.
I'm making it all myself and its gluten free to had h2b can't have gluten.... It's all cooked and being feed alcohol before decorating at end of November.... I'm so excited

Our top tier was fruit cake. The bottom 3 tiers were sponge, chocolate, lemon and vanilla, all dairy free so I could eat kt. The top tier was not for cutting, we've kept it as is traditional for hopefully our first child if we're blessed with one xxxx

Any of you ladies having lace icing on their cake thats DIYing? I've seen that sugarveil kits cost like over £100 and don't work in the UK very well because of the humidity but heard of crystal lace which is meant to be much better...
Did anyone buy premade sugar veil lace online and use it and did it work!?!
And we lived happily ever after!

Well change of plan in our house! We were going to have fruit cake as top tier but h2b has actually made a decision in the wedding planning and says he doesn't want to do that so no fruit cake for us forget! It is rank after all!! x
CommentAuthorBev
My h2b & I don't like fruit cake so we'll be having flavoured sponge... We haven't made our final choices yet!
CommentAuthorSusie
H2B wants us to have a layer of fruit cake then two layers of sponge. I dislike fruit cake a lot, and we havent decided on the sponge flavours yet. Though I do love white chocolate and raspberry sponge, might be a bit too sweet though!! But since we are making our own, means we can have a good free tasting session :)
