So my ideal musician to play me down the aisle and do a short set at the beginning on the reception would be Ed Sheeran.... but as that's an impossible dream I'd like to know whats the protocol when hiring a musician? Is it better to start going to local pub band nights and asking musicians I like would they play at my wedding? Or if I find someone on line is it ok to ask them to "audition" for me so that I can see if I like them? I have 2 years to find the perfect person to play so there is no rush but I was just wondering how others decided who was right for them and how they found them and asked them to play for them? TIA

Listen to their music and see if you like it first is the best way. You could audition but most musicians will have samples of their work on their website or on y0u3ube if they are worth their mustard so go from there. Depends on what you are looking for really!

Yeah look online and listen to samples, I found a couple of really good guys on guitars who sang Ed Sheeran ect. when I was looking (but ended up going for a medieval minstrel) If your profile is open I'll leave a link on your wall to the site I found loads on

Thank you Donna I'll have a look. I never even thought about looking them up on y0utu6e I literally had a quick search to see what was available in my are and all I got was names and numbers no websites. Like I said I've got 2 years to sort something so there's no rush I just was stumped as to how to proceed with this one lol

I would avoid agencies to be honest. Research into bands local to you, look on facey b and utube, go see them play, find someone you like and ask them!

The site I suggested lets you contact them direct. I found a local guy who was fab, but then we decided to go with the other guy anyway. Who we also saw on that site.
You might see people at wedding fayres as well, we saw our band and our violinist at wedding fayres and I also saw a guy with a guitar at one... which was what made me originally think of having one for the ceremony.
