I just wondered how it works... We live in kent but will be getting married somewhere around the bristol area, venue not booked yet! Waiting for mum to be back from hols! But when it comes to giving notice do we have to do it here and in bristol? Will we have 2 interviews so to speak?
Any help appreciated! Just one of the things whirring about in my brain unanswered!

You give notice in the council area you are getting married for example. I live in Dundee but my venue is in Perth so I will be registering with Perthshire City Council.

Hmmm seems everyone has different ideas! Guess I'll just have to see when we've finally booked and speak to the registrars for that district

You give notice in the area you live unless you live in Scotland want to get married in England. We gave notice in harrow then had to give our marriage certificate to the registry office that our venue belonged to.

Ah, just realised the process here in Scotland is different. We give notice (M10) no more than 3months and no later than 4 weeks before the day of the wedding, collect Marriage Schedule week before wedding and return it within 3 days after.

Yeah I live in Scotland but want to get married in England, it's a bit annoying that to give notice up here you just have to fill in a form, but to give notice in England we have to have lived there for 8 days before we do the interview :/

My friend and i both live in Bristol, I'm staying here to marry but shes getting married down in Weston. I only have to give notice up here and then attend a meeting to hand over my documents up here but she needed to give notice up here in Bristol, then meet with them and provide documents down in Weston as thats where she'll be getting married too. Hope this helps!! xx

Becky1608 I was just wondering how your guests felt about travelling from Sussex to Oxfordshire for your wedding? Or did the majority of them live there? We are also thinking of a Wedding about 3 hours away, in Stowmarket, and we are from Sussex, but we're worried about the travel. Also, handy to know about the giving notice, I didn't even think about that! X

The venue should help you as they've prob had experience of it before, I don't know how it works for Scotland as I think it's different, but we've booked the local registrar and then give notice where we live it's then our responsibility to ensure the papers from the notice gets to the registrar performing the ceremony and then alls confirmed.
