I haven't posted on here for ages but im in need of some advice :(

So a couple of months ago I took the plunge and had Extensions fitted as I had several weddings and parties to go to this summer and my own hair is extremely thin and short.

I found my stylist via Book of face she had lots of before & after photos, positive comments, and worked at a local hair salon.

I was told they were Chinese human hair & paid the £185 to have them fitted.

After 2 weeks they started becoming pretty frizzy and knotted all the time. I followed all the after care that she had given me and used the products she had advised me to use nothing seemed to make any difference.
I contacted her and she told me they had probably dried out as she did warn me that the Chinese hair dried out quick and to try a hydrating hair mask - I did and still no change.
I did contact the company she purchased my hair from and they asked me to get her to contact them which she never did stating she no longer had my order number for the hair even though I said if you gave them your details they could find the order number.

Anyway after a month I couldn't even do anything with it! If I wore it down or in a bun it completely matted up to the point where it took me over half hour to get every knott out and a whole brush of hair!

Then the other day I suddenly noticed thick black shiny strands in my hair (the ends had started to fade so I could see them) I asked another hairdresser I knew and she said that it looked like its been mixed with synthetic hair and would definitely explain why its so frizzy & matted. I then tried the burn test on a couple of strands.

I pulled out a few of the black strands and when I held them over a flame they fizzled and melted so theyre definitely synthetic.

I spoke to the stylist who then got all defensive telling me I couldn't have a refund as she does not do refunds and they told her it was human hair and basically implied I had made it up despite having another hairdresser tell me and testing the hair.
She said she wont refund me as its not her problem its the hair company she got it from and said she would contact them and if they refund the money for the hair then she will refund me that - But it would not be the price I paid her.

I have no idea where I stand shes making out Im being unreasonable saying im being rude but shes advertising them as human hair and theyre not ive paid £185 for plastic hair that's so matted I cant do anything with and im having taken out :(

Feeling pretty upset as I had to save for ages for them and was looking forward to having lovely long hair for all these weddings instead ive been left with a frizzy mess :(

I have contacted citizens advice for some help. Just wondered if anyone else had ever had this problem and what happened :( x

Your contract of sale is with her not the company she got the hair from ... It comes under the supply of goods and services Act

As she is advertising it being human hair only it is false representation ..... You might have to take her to the small claim court ....

Make sure you have complained to her in writing, also it would be a good idea to get a written statement from the other hair dresser with what she found ie: the synthetic hair mixed in

Thanks unfortunately I cleared my inbox with the messages from the initial purchase but ive saved all the messages of me complaining.
Yes I was thinking that too, I might see if I can send off one of the spare strands she left behind and get it tested.

Al lala has said if she is advertising 100% human or remi hair then she is liable. Human or remi hair does not matt when looked after correctly. Mine are so good that when I curl it the curls drop out.

I also very much doubt they'd be "Chinese", I have mine done quite often and have only ever bought or had Indian hair fitted. I also know my extensionist (my very good friend hairdresser), also deals with Russian or European hair. None of the extensionists I've used have advertised using Chinese hair. I've used three different ones over the last year.

I buy my hair from hairplan3t and they don't do Chinese hair.

As you've cleared the messages make sure you get screen shots of what she's advertising on her page, what type of hair etc. hope you get some money back xx

    Thanks ladies.

The hair company she bought the hair from asked me to send some hair to be tested stating they only sell 100% human hair they've just messaged to say yes it is 100% human hair but I honestly don't believe them or that its even been tested. I don't believe they would admit they've sold me synthetic hair and have just told me the above hoping that'll be the end of it.
Ive just re-tested strands on the hair myself 2 burnt and chard like real hair the black strand melted up into a hard ball which shows its plastic.

Ive saved all her messages since I complained and my friend posed as potential customer enquiring about extensions and got her to say that yes the cheaper "Chinese hair" extensions were 100% real human hair.

Citizens advice replied stating it is breaking the law and the sales of good act and they would like to pass onto trading standards.

But now im stumped I need to find somewhere to test the hair.

Ive take all the extensions out because it just got to the point where I was spending a good half hour untangling BUT I have kept the hair for the moment.

so sorry to hear your going through this :(

I believe that when trading standards get involved they will maybe get the hair tested as its within their interest to stop these sellers selling things that arnt as described on the tin (so to speak).

Hopefully if you get in contact with Trading standards they can guide you on the procedures

    good luck, keep us posted

Thankyou I have told citizens advice to go ahead and pass onto them so fingers crossed they do something. Ive just screen shot every message ive had that's to do with this problem and saved on here just I case.

Ive just been speaking to another stylist for advice and before id even mentioned the lady I used names she knew instantly who I was on about saying shes had lots of people come to her with the same problem matted hair and she refused to give them refunds.

Thanks I hope she gets stopped its awful how shes treated people!

I messaged her again and this time she was all "lovely" and "So sorry" giving me the whole sob story of how distressed she is and shes thinking of giving it up and how shes not doing her cheap hair option now .... Which is aload of rubbish as a friend messaged her and she gave her the details of her cheapest offer despite knowing that its fake hair lol

She then proceeded to tell me she couldn't afford to refund me .... Shes just bought a brand new flashy car & been on holiday so I think she can lol I think she was hoping id be like oh don't worry its ok.

Im in the middle of writing her a letter to mediate a refund if she refuses its going to the small claims court - Hopefully shell back down and just refund me without it getting that far xx

I feel your pain ! This happened to me a few years ago and since then I've always gone to a salon that supply raccoon hair extensions. I've had this lot of hair in repeatedly since March and it still looks good as new.
If she won't give you a refund you could always leave a review on her page....I'm sure she'll be quick to rectify once she sees that it's detremental to her business !

Hope you get it sorted !

Right so ive just received my letter from her ...... Im banging my head against a brick wall!!

Despite telling her that citizens advice have said its HER responsibility as she fitted my hair my contract is with her and not the company she bought the hair from shes still saying its theyre fault.

She did however agree to refund me the full amount IF the hair company refund her first which is highly unlikely as theyre point blank refusing to admit its fake hair and are still trying to convince me its 100% human.

I have since emailed them explaining everything ive been advised and trading standards are involved so hopefully that will move them along.

Now I have no idea what to do???

Silly really shes basically admitting shes in the wrong by now offering me the full amount back but now shes gota pay me back more as she will have to pay the court fee back to me too.

    Hey all!
Little update so the 14 days are up and ive had NO response to my claim from her so im just waiting to hear back from them as to whether I can apply for judgement as she had written me a letter stating she would refund me and taking responsibility (letter before I took it further stating she would refund me if hair refund her first)..
So if they reply saying that's all I need then I shall be putting in my form to have a judge make a decision whether she has to pay or not. Mind you they can say she has to pay but she can still not pay up in which case ill then have to take to actual court :( x

Oh and the hair company that the hair was purchased from have just taken to blanking me completely even when I told them I had been in contact with citizens advice and trading standards where on the case! awful awful customer service they couldn't care less! Although I left them a rather sh*tty review on their facebook page for all to see haha x

    UPDATE!!!

So the hair company replied once I had posted on their social media page and theyre still adamant they tested the hair and its 100% human to which I replied how is it my own hair doesn't melt then? hmmmm? anyway they've apparently passed it onto management!

As for my stylist ... She is an utter joke!!
Logged on to check my small claims case and instead of admitting shes in the wrong shes filled a defence!!!!! Ive never met someone so in denial it doesn't matter what proof I have or say its like banging my head against a brick wall! I don't know what shes replied with as its posted to me then I can reply online so we will see but im starting to think its more stress then its all worth!!! x

I withdrew my application to take to court as without any testing I just don't think id stand a chance!

Ive had a couple of ladies message me regarding their hair that was purchased from the same place and one of them has contacted her lawyer on taking it further.

Im trying to find somewhere to test the hair but most seem to be around £250 which is a ridiculous amount and not worth it for me!

I shall keep you all updated though x x

She is not having any of it though as The hair company has told her its supposedly real hair so shes not interested.
However another lady who saw my complaint on this companys book of face page has been on contact she had same problem with this brand of hair and her hair matted too, shes now in talks with a solicitor and has put forward my experience to them aswell so we shall see what happens here.

I read about your hair extensions experience with interest as I'm a consumer journalist looking into the issue of hair extensions sold as 100% human when they're not. I would love to have a chat with you about what happened to you if you wouldn't mind? Please message me back (I have also friend requested you) and we can go from there!
