So on Monday I'm taking the trip up to bristol, meet my mum and to hopefully book our venue and on Tuesday im booked in with their bridal store, rookery bridal to try on some dresses!! So excited!!! But also nervous as I don't know what sort of price my mum is thinking of for a dress really, did anyone else have their mum paying for the dress? Did you ask about a figure beforehand? I can help pay some of it if I can pay it off but by bit so that's not a problem but don't know how to broach the subject with her... Any ideas?

    Exciting!! :)

My mum has offered to buy my dress. When we started talking about what kind of price range I was looking at she was actually surprised as she thought it would be more - at around the £1000 I thought that was quite expensive enough, but seems she was prepared to spend even more than that!

I guess you will be able to gauge her reaction when you try dresses on with how much they are.. x

Half way through trying on dresses my mum told me that she was going to buy my dress. It was a lovely surprise. I already had a budget of 1000 which she was happy with and we were looking at one for 772 but the one I fell in love with was half the price of my budget so happy days. It just goes to show that you don't need an expensive dress.

OK, I would just chose the dress without within your mum's budget + what you can pay, and then if the chosen one is more expensive than your mum can pay, you tell her to do not worry that you're paying the excess.

I always said £1000 including accessories, not that I had any money for it at the time. I went dress shopping one day on impulse, just to look and had no intention of buying anything until I had a desposit saved. anyway, we went to an outlet with my mother in law and my stepsister and when we started looking through the dresses, my MiL said if there was anything I liked she would get it as she had a discussion with FIL the night before. That day I walked out with my wedding dress! Mine cost £650 plus £40 for a hoop!

I would keep in mind what you can afford towards your dress incase your mums budget is lower than you thought. If you're not comfortable approaching it before, when you get to the store ask how where the limit is so you don't look at anything you can't afford. If you dont find anything you like within the budget, move it up a bit with whatever you can add to the cost.

    Enjoy!

Our budget is very small so my wedding dress budget was 350 i was planning in catchin sale wen we went to Look my mam said "dad is adding 250 onto your dress so you can go up to 600" i was so suprised but i never expected anything for it from them... it turned out the dress i wanted was 435 :-) + 45 for measured length 40 for an underskirt and 45 for a veil. So all still comes under budget! Its almost paid theres 200 left to pay :-) (and thatll be cleared next month)

if you know your mam is adding into it i would ask her first roughly what figure is she looking at because you dont want to try dresses on outside your total budget... if yours is a good budget then stick with that and use your mams for alterations and extras (hoops skirts veils etc)

Bridal shops usualy u pay a deposit and once you have 50% of the dress paid they can order it aslong as u pay this within the time they need to order. And full balance once it arrives unless of course u can pay it before as i say mine will be paid next month and they wont be measuring me till dec/jan to order it x

Enjoy! Its exciting and to know my dress will be paid soon gives me butterflies all over again lol x

Good ideas ladies, I'll see what mood my mums in when I get up there! It'll be easier to gauge once were looking at the venue and into the swing of things! They do have such a lovely selection of designers at the store so I know there will gorgeous dresses to try on I just don't want to get ahead of myself thinking we are looking with intent if mums not thinking we will get the dress yet! So excited for next week though! I'm just hoping I can get booked and started on things!! Fit to burst!

Your going to be changing into a dress just as u wud if u were anywhere else most places ask if u need help they dnt automaticaly stand in the changing room with u like u see on tv! Usualy its "let me know when your in ill zip u up"

If your going strappless wear strappless bra or tske bra off..
Wear what u feel comfortsble in

Take some shoes so u have an idea of how ull stand in similar shoes. How u crry yourself changes the look of the dress n heels always makes u stand right lol x

The lady from the shop was with me all the time when I was trying dresses on as she had to help me in to them as a couple were quite big. I wore my bridget jones pants for comfort lol and a strapless bra. I felt a bit awkward to start with but soon got over it.

My lady was in with me was she lifted most of the dresses over my head. I wore a strapless bra and some pretty lol. I dd see some people wearing like shape wear bodysuits though so there's other options if you do reel comfortable. The most awkward part for me was initially taking my clotes off and standing waiting in between as it was a big dressing room to fit three and one private one on the end :/

Hi sprucey, sounds like a fun few days.

I tried on some dresses at rookery bridal and wore leggings and a dress, they make you take your shoes off before you go in so wear some that are easy to put on and off. I would let your mum tell you in her own time, my mum was paying and said 1500 inc accessories but that was said when we got there.

My main advice would be to not let them push you into buying then and there if you don't want to. I had 2 fairly pushy ladies trying their best sales tactics and it put me off buying from them to be honest. I know other people who didn't have this problem there though so it all depends I guess! I also wouldn't reveal the actually budget to them because there may be room for manoeuvring more so always say a bit lower than happy with or they will just go for the higher.

Good luck, rookery manor is a lovely venue! X

Ok thanks ladies I'll have to remember to take appropriate clothing up with me! Sounds like I'm going to get hot and bothered!
Oh AH86 that's a shame they were pushy, I've a couple friends who all got their dresses there a while ago and they love it but then I think one of their friends works there! Where is it in relation to the venue? I've been trying to work out where they are hiding the bridal store! Mums been there before just for the spa a couple times and says she's never noticed the bridal store before! And it seemed quite big from the pics so wondered where they are hiding it! Where did you get your dress from in the end AH86?

All the ones iv tried on there has been someone in with me to help, either to put over my head or make sure I could see where to step into!

But yes they do usually tell you to strip down to underwear and "give them a shout" when you are ready :)

I was in bra and knickers in the changing room, but what they would do is come through the curtain with the dress held out in front of them ready to put over my head, so they couldn't really see me. I think I also had a hoop on throughout. After a while you stop caring about it. The one thing I was aware of was getting sweaty, maybe you want to take some wipes or something to freshen up if necessary.
