So I got an email today informing me that my dress has arrived at the bridal shop - exciting!

They have asked me to get in touch to go and try my dress on and to pay the balance. I just wanted to check if this was the normal process as in pay the balance as soon as it has come in? I guess that means if I need any alterations I would pay for these on top.

Also is there anything I need to take with me for first fitting? I have seen most people talk about wearing their shoes and underwear they'll wear on the day but I have neither yet.

I'm surprised its arrived they said it would be end of September, only ordered it on 31st May!

    That's fantastic Erin!

Ordered mine 12th April and they said October.

I was told by the shop I'd need my shoes for the fitting so they can measure the length.
They advised me to have the bra too if possible.

I think it's normal that they want the balance too.

Thanks ladies, I thought it must be but wanted to check. Really excited to try it on and get a proper feel for it, as the sample I had to try on was a size 22 and I'm a size 10!

I'm now a bit worried to as I wanted to tone my thighs / hips a bit more, its an a line dress ordered in a size 8 so that it is fitted to my boobs but my hips are a bit bigger so may be a squeeze and I don't think they're ready yet (my hips that is)! I'm so worried that it might not fit, thought I had more time eek.

Looks like I need to try and find underwear and my shoes asap - though wanted to ask about undies to check I would need a bra, as I see some ladies have said they don't need one.

Leasa - has your dress arrived yet?

Yeah you pay the balance when you pick it up. When mine arrived I took my shoes, good job I did as I found out they were too high for the dress! I had the option to leave the dress in the shop so they could do alterations nearer the time, or take it with me, I took it with me as my OH nan is doing the alterations for me x

I was wondering whether they would hold the dress for a while or whether I had to pick it up there and then. I don't want to pick it up too early as I don't know where I'd keep it. Not sure what the policy is.

No, mines not ready yet. But I got a fabric sample a couple of weeks ago, wasn't expecting it so was surprised.

Got my shoes, but still not sure what undies to get. It's a deep v-neck so i can't decide what to get.

    What dress have you got?

ask the store usualy you dont pick it up till very close to the date as ull have alterations rtc to do obv if you choose to go elsewhere for alterations you would need it once its in.. they normaly prepare and store the dress and closer to date will have it ready to its perfect when pulled out the bag for the big day xx

i paid my deposit july 31st(a year to the day of my wedding lol) she said she wpuld be ordering it near xmas to come into store about jan feb ish... im paying for measured length so when they order it it fits with my shoed etc etc :-) im only 5ft so a dress made for a model would take some canny hemming haha cheaper doing it this way

take a bra but try it with and without and see which will be best for you theyll fit it to either whichever you decide. im choosing a bra but have a feeling back of dresd swoops down that little bit too low its chiffon so quite thin too so im hoping bra will be fine!

I think I'll prob have to go with strapless bra for first fitting and see what's best and then by my underwear. Looking at shoes but none have jumped out of me yet. I know what size heel I want, so can take a pair the height I want in the interim but will look for shoes. Will book a date with them next week.

Leasa - my dress is Ronald Joyce's Giordana.

    Gorgeous dress!

You might not need a bra, but if you want one I'd suggest the ultimo low back strapless, it's really comfy and has removable gel pads, about £28 online/debs

Yeah I think I'll go in with a bra and see how it feels with and without. Also take some shoes but will not worry until booking my fittings that I'm wearing the ones for the day.

I will make sure my mum takes plenty of photos when I try it on.

Thanks for the strapless bra ideas Leasa - looks very nice in your photos. I had to look my dress up on Ronald Joyce's website to check the spelling, but looking at the photos on there reminded me of how much I love it!

How exciting!! Yes mine was 50% at time of order and i'll have to pay the balance when the dress arrives, which should be dec/jan but she said there's no urgency on it as long as its paid before I have fittings which is 2 months before wedding. xx

mines paid in full and waiting for me already i asked if i could have a dress fitting soon but the bridal store said no its to soon as i may put weight on, lose weight or even have a baby (i told them not a chance!!) i would love to try it on again and i want to bring it home to prance around in it..knowing me ill rip it tho.

i dont think i need any alterations on mine but the bridal shop want to charge me £120 for alterations as they want to make it shorter....do i take their advice or go with what i feel

if you havent tried it no one will know how much altering will be if any at all not sure why thry have quoted you before assessing it fully!

mine is 20 an hour for alterations and i paid 45 for measured length (im 5ft lol) so that 45 saves me alot :-) but obv wont know till dress comes in wat else needs doing xx

Well I'm so excited, my dress is amazing!! Looks so good on now that its in my size as the shape is nicely fitted and gives me curves I didn't know I had! My mum and moh really loved it. All paid for now and being stored at the bridal shop (although I had to pay for the privilege).

Discussed with them perhaps booking an accessories appointment in the future but will look around for veils etc. Also have the details of their recommended seamstress as they don't have one in house, but was told fittings etc aren't really needed until 6-8weeks before but don't feel much his needed bar taking the hem up. Fitted really nice, a little snug on my hips but I'm working on those at the most.

I ordered mine in May and I got a phone call a couple of weeks ago to say it's ready. I was expecting it to be the end of November. I've also been asked to pay the balance when I go for my pre-fit on Tuesday. They've said to bring along anything that I have (shoes etc) and it's a chance to try out accessories and things before they start with the alterations. They've also said they'll keep it at the shop for me.
