Wedding Forum - Dress for a plus size bride...

Hi ladies!!

We have moved our wedding forward to 18th December 2013 and have dramatically reduced the numbers from about 70 down to 15! Both of us want a small, intimate ceremony / day but still with little touches. Sooooooo, have gone from thinking about having a princess style lace number, to something a little more refined but still pretty.
Being a chunky monkey, I need to find a dress that not only suits a winter wedding, but is also flattering on my ample curves! I found this dress last night whilst searching and I just love it I keep looking at the pictures and smiling. I'd like to get the back changed and have it as a more robust lace up but what do you ladies think, do you think it would be flattering for plus size me?

Yes, it is a very subtle empire line and I know this kind of style suits me as I have about 4 summer dresses with similar shaping. I love the front of it, v lines suit too and the little lace sleeves are so pretty and delicate xx

I have a large bust too, 36E, and although i really love your dress, it would not have enough support for my girls......so you might want to think about having the back altered to a corset back to keep your girls coming out......it is a beautiful dress though.

Good for you keeping it small, i have done the same and my wedding is only 24 people. we just want it small and intimate like yours.

i think its lovely and will suite your wedding style perfectly, i agree with you on the back, are you going to get a cover up being a winter wedding?

Am thinking I might just get a lace one jocelinetex, am not sure really but think I'll want something for my arms even though we won't be outside for long. They are expensive though! x

I am a size 24 - 26 LMB and have a belly too, but am going to get a pair of those sucky in spanx pants things and a hoof em up bra! xx

I have to say i LOVED it, and It's very slimming, honestly my butt is mahoozive and i was amazed it doesnt stick out lmao

I would never have chosen one like that myself, but loved it once i tried it on. I wouldnt have gone for something with a low neckline like that.
It is a lovely material. Just not able to be altered, so if I loose any weight at all it will be too big (which is what happened to my SIL)

the other dress MIGHT be too small :(
I ordered a size 16, someone who is a size 14 tried it on and it was about 5 inches too small to be zipped up!!!!

At this rate i could end up with 3 dresses or no dresses lol..... I shoulda waited I know, but I couldnt help buy a dress, and I felt a smaller size would help me get motivated to loose the weight i need to..

having said that I did recently talk to a lady who had the op I am having. 9 months ago she was a size 26 and is now a size 14, so IF i can get this operation done this year I may JUST be able to do this!

she loves me in it, says it is flattering and sexy (well i wouldnt go that far ha ha ha)

my problem is the other way round i have big hips (child bearing according to my family lol ) so always have to have a size bigger to fit them in lol I'm going with an a line skirt with a structured to holds everything in place and hide the bottom half lovely.

i hope to get away with no spanx for the wedding as its usully my legs, bum and tum i try to suck in my dress is tie back so will get my sister to do it with an inch of breath to spare and will hide the legs and bum bit i think.

yes i am on the waiting list. was told in august last year it is a 12 - 18 month wait. Really HOPING it will be nearer the 12 months so i can loose weight for the wedding.

Janie it is a beautiful dress and very flattering. its a shame it cant be altered, but no way would it go from a 26 to a 14, maybe you could sell the dresses and by one new one nearer the time of your wedding? Id still be looking at the same style though for you because it really suits you. and i love the little bit of bling!

Im a size 18 at the moment (previously a 22) but hoping to loose another couple of stone before I marry next year. Im currently 15 st 4.5lb and the lightest ive ever been is 14st and thats a size 16 (and that was done through a meal replacement diet that nearly killed me!). but i looked ill so I dont know what I'll look like this time now that im doing it the helathy way.

Im supposed to be going dress shopping at the end of march with my mum and best friend (also MOH) so if Im at 14st by then id be happy. but I have no clue about style of dress etc that would suit me! all fun lol.

well I AM DEFFO a size 26 lol, it may be altrered to a size 24. The other one is a size 16, supposedly, doesnt it mil who is a size 14.

I cant sell the larger one, it would only be on loan from my sil2b. the other was so cheap not worth selling it. We deicded if it ddoesnt fit me then thats what the bridesmaids are wearing lol (at 13.99 each why not!)
