    Hi ladies

I have a dress code for my wedding which is black tie/formal attire.

I'm just about to let my wedding website go "live" but I really need to include information about the dress code before I do so, only problem is I have no idea how to word it. I want it to be pretty to the point but in a nice and maybe humorous way.

    Please please please help!

i would but exactly what you put here ......

but you need to be clear about what you view "formal" as, if some one say black tie to me ... that means men in dinner suits with bow ties and women in full lengh dresses

Well this is why I'd like to add it to my website so I can be more descriptive.

We'd like our guest's to wear black tie but we thought it was quite restrictive so by putting formal attire they can just wear a suit and tie or any length dress if they wish.

It's just wording it that's the problem. I know all of my guest's will be pleased to have a dress code but I don't want them to feel I'm being strict about it

There's a great site that I used to use for dress codes which details what each means. Black tie is officially "semi-formal" according to old-fashioned etiquette and only suitable for evening; white tie is "formal" (top hats and tiaras).

I'll see if I can find it and pop the link on your wall.

We're planning to have a day and evening dress code. Semi-formal/garden party attire for the day and black tie/retro glam for evening.

You could always put "Formal - Black tie preferred". We used to get that on university ball tickets (although it was "Formal - White tie preferred" for the Castle ball).

What about something like this, just off the top of my head so tweak it as much as you wish:-

Our wedding day approaches, we hope you will be there
Attire will be formal, we ask that you can wear
Suits, shirts and ties for the men
and Dresses or long skirts for the women
We would like all our guests to follow this rule
So no one wears jeans and feels like a fool
We look forward to seeing you all on the day
To celebrate our marriage and our future on the way.

I found the guide and popped the link on my wall. I'm going to have it on the information section of the wedding website.

I'm quite tempted to ask the Ushers to be bouncers during the evening and turn away anyone who turns up in jeans or similarly scruffy/inappropriate clothing.

Evil, yes, but I doubt anyone who actually knows us would wear anything like that.

Ha I'd do the same SS - even if we're only invited to evening wedding do's I still get glammed up and make Si were his suit...sometimes not with a tie but I just think it's rude to go to a wedding in really casual attire (unless that's been requested)
