Well I've just come back from the jewelers completely heartbroken as the shop have completely ruined my ring :( The picture on the left is what I was expecting and the picture on the right is what I got... My ER completely overshadows it, way thinner, different diamonds etc. etc. and to top it off, because it was made bigger for my fat fingers, they won't refund it! Crappy end to a crappy week!

Thanks girls, I'm feeling a little better but still pretty crap.. We got cookies afterwards!!

My OH has suggested that I get a plain gold band to go with my pretty sapphire I already have which I would be more than happy with and then wear my ER in the pic on my other hand. We were always going to 'upgrade' my ER anyway so I guess this is the shove... It's just a shame I had to loose £500 though!!!! xx

As Debbie says get a plain gold band for the family heirloom you was given as they will mean more to you and you can look at your hand and love what shines back keep the engagement ring for your right hand and sorry they screwed you over With your wedding band but in the end think you have gained something more sentimental and Prescious and your er can ways still be worn on your other hand so you don't toss it to the side Xxx

Even if it was made larger, it's not what you ordered so you should still have the right to change it. Not as expensive, but I once had to get a custom made wing mirror from a well know auto/bike shop, the person at the shop drew around my wing mirror and still it was wrong. They said they could not refund me as it was made specially, but I pointed out it was still wrong so was not, and it was their staff member who name the template. They ended up refunding

We are going to the OH's family jewelers shop nearby as they buy and sell second hand jewelry so we are going to see if and how much they'd be willing to sell it for! xx

I find that a ridiculous policy! So if it broke they wouldn't be able to do anything about it because it is bespoke? If anything, I think a bespoke service requires a higher level of customer service!!

They must be able to do something.. you just need to be pushy and firm with them. If what you have isn't what you ordered, then I don't see that they have a leg to stand on as they haven't given you the service/product that you thought you were getting.

Good idea about the jewellers too x

You've not had much luck lately! In all honesty, I think it still looks gorgeous, and I'm not sure if I'm not looking properly, but I don't think it looks TOO much different from what you thought you'd get. If you're not happy with it though I would definitely be persistent with them and go back, and if nobody is willing to help you try with the manager? As everyone has said, you've paid for something that you don't feel you've got your money for, bespoke or not, it's not what you wanted! Good luck xx

Tell them if you do not hear back from them by such a date you will go to trading standards as they have provided something which you did not ask for.

I would definitely threaten them with trading standards (and I'd also contact trading standards in the meantime). My rings are both bespoke and I've never heard so much nonsense in my life; my wedding band was adjusted several times prior to them setting the diamonds so that it was exactly what I wanted.

The bottom line is that you haven't received what you asked for and paid for, therefore, the fault lies with them and they are duty bound to replace it with what you DID ask for. This isn't a matter of you changing your mind; this is a matter of not receiving what you ordered. Are they suggesting that if they'd randomly decided to make it in yellow gold instead of white gold, or set it with emeralds instead of diamonds (just an example), that it would be tough because it's bespoke? Utter nonsense.

The only thing I would say is that it is difficult to get a true idea when the ring doesn't fit properly; it may be difficult to achieve the look of the first set (with the slight gap) because when they're fitting properly and they're on, they can get pushed together more. On a similar note, sizing the wedding band up again could make a difference to how it sits (I found this with mine). That said. this is why with a bespoke job they should always let you see a cast first so you can try it and make any adjustments.

The only reason it was a bespoke order was because my ring size was outside of their 'normal' ring sizes i.e. not a size M/L etc. and had to be made to my ring size. I've tried emailing again to see if I get any response and if still nothing, I will mention trading standards..

it may just be the photosize so I cant see fully, but I agree with Aprils61 it doesn't look that far off the first pic to me ? obvs the first pic the rings aren't on your finger properly so it would never look like that, when rings are on properly lower down its going to squish them in a bit more. That's what it looks like has happened to me rather than they made something wrong.. or is this just my eye sight ? its very hard to get cash back once something is made bespoke , because its your word against theres. They will say this is what you asked for and that its not their fault that you don't like it.. and its hard to prove otherwise unless you have recordings or precise drawings.. they should however reply to you straight away and have better customer service than ignore you.

Have you measured the width of both rings? If not, I would do that and take photos to demonstrate that there's a difference, if indeed there is one (I do agree with EmmaG and April that it's hard to tell from the photos as they're taken from different angles/distances, plus the fit is obv different which can make a huge difference). Also check and measure the point; again, it isn't totally clear but it looks like it might be different in the second photo, which would make the diamond on your engagement ring cover it more.

Lastly, I think it's a cheek for them to refer to it as 'bespoke' just because of the size; they haven't designed the ring from scratch, so they should be able to resize and sell it without an issue.

Unless they advised you that it would be different, then there is absolutely no reason why they cannot sort this out, whether it be a refund or resolve the issue. You asked for them for a service that you have paid for and they have not delivered on that promise. It comes under the sales of goods act. Like Barbie86 has said, I would get in contact with trading standards.

I don't know if this is true, but a company must answer your complaint within 5 working days.

    fingers crossed for you

Well I've had to pester again with no success so I tried calling yet again and the manager finally spoke to me!! After an afternoon of waiting where I got nowhere again, she told me that she can't authorize any refunds and is sticking to policy so she has tried to contact head office and her regional manager who she hasn't been able to get hold of so she's sent her regional manager an email with everything to see if I can either get a refund, part exchange or some form of compensation. Not ideal but we are seeing if she calls tomorrow. Now that I've got hold of her, she seems pro-active and even gave me her name and working hours so fingers crossed we can get a resolution!! xx

Is there anyone else you can contact? Have you spoken to Trading Standards yet? I just do not believe what they're saying as essentially you have paid for something and have not received it. I think you need to get some advice and then go in all guns blazing, so to speak. I would also as I said above go in and ask to see the ring you tried, and measure and photograph both so that you have clearly documented proof/evidence.

When I had to contact them I just G00gled it and it came up. I called them and they answered pretty quickly and were very helpful (in our case, OH had entered into a phone contract but essentially the phone wasn't fit for purpose; I knew from reading TS laws and the actual contract T&Cs that were we legally allowed to leave the contract with no penalty, but we were getting nowhere. As soon as I threw the fact I'd called TS into the mix, their attitude did an about turn, and we were able to leave the contract with no penalty).

Thanks ladies! Next move is sort a new ring :D I've looked around but I think we are going to go to our friend who is also an independent jeweller. We trust her completely, will make them from scratch and she also sorted out my new ER when I needed work done on it a few weeks ago so we know that she will do a wonderful job! I think I'm just going to go for a simple gold band; simple but elegant and pretty too. My ER is the 'wow' factor so I don't feel I need a complicated wedding ring really. What do you think? I know it's very Duchess of Cambridge-esque but it was a family heirloom and well, I love it!
