So, me and H2B are getting married next year - most of my family are happy and excited. My dad is not. He's NOT a sociable person, I understand that - but it's my wedding day and he is still on the fence on whether he'll come?
Its really upset me, and I don't know what to do. Surely he can just do it for ONE day for me? Just put up with people; I told him I want him to give me away, and he didnt seem as if he was interested at all.
Also he might not even come to the daytime reception, and gah! I've told him that I don't care if he doesn't want to mingle, but at least be there to walk me down the aisle and for the day sit-down buffet.

Is there anyway I can convince him to come?

(What also doesn't help is I've invited his brother whom he is too childish to get along with after a bust up over 12 years ago!)

Oh poor you :( I would be absolutely devastated if my dad was like that, you must be feeling so upset :( You shouldn't need to 'convince' him.. he should WANT to be there to give his little girl away and see her get married, despite maybe not being a social person and despite his brother being there. Those things shouldn't make a blind bit of difference!

I'm not sure what to suggest.. I just hope he comes round. x

Im just at a complete loss of what to do, I've still got quite a bit of time to get him to come - i just think this is ridiculous that I feel like I need to convince and/or make him attend! I'd rather him be there for the whole thing, but I've compromised already by saying that I just need him there for the ceremony and throughout the speeches and then if he doesn't want to stay he can go.
It doesnt help him and my mum had a bust up and he "doesnt even want to be in the same room as her," but like you said - he should want to be there and I don't get why he doesn't seem to care that much.

I've told him how upset I'd be if he didn't bother, and all he says to it is "I'll see!"

He's helping out with money; he fronted the wedding venue deposit, but I'd rather him not pay a penny and be there. :(

Yeah it is ridiculous! It should just be a given that your dad will be there on your big day to walk you down the aisle! You shouldn't even have to compromise.. bless you :( you're right, it's not about the money, it's about having the people there who you want to be there and who you care about, and who care about you! Fingers crossed that he'll start feeling the excitement the nearer the day gets and will have a change of heart x

I would have a sit down with him and find out what he is worried about. That way you have given him the opportunity to voice what he is potentially worrying about and gives you a chance to help him in whatever way you can, although I do think that he should put aside his differences for one day! I hope you get it sorted. x
