We have decided to have gingerbread men cupcakes for our wedding cake with a small cake on top for us to cut. I have an old friend that makes amazing cupcakes as a part time buisness and has done them for my kids birthday parties in the past, and was thinking of asking her if she can make the cake to go on top too. My concern is that we live 1.5hrs from our venue (she lives a similiar distance) so how would we get them there? Would it be best to order from somebody who lives/works nearer the venue? What has everybody else done? We will need about 100 cupcakes.

Personally I'd order the cakes from somewhere nearer to the venue so you don't have to worry about transporting the cakes. I think it would be hard to transport 100 cupcakes :/

We are getting married over an hour away from our venue and are having 80 cupcakes and a cutting cake. The lady is taking them down for us for a fee. But I would rather her do it than me risk ruining them. I presume she puts them in holders for the journey. She said it was no problem at all x x

I think you would need to be careful transporting them but wouldn't worry too much about it as my sister in law and a friend both do amazing cakes and have both offered to do ours and they live miles apart, one is 2 hours from us and the other an hour ish.
I'm not worried about getting them to the venue as I trust them both hehe :D
Go with what will make you happy and stress free!! x

I would have a chat with your friend and see what she thinks, and then go from there.

You could always ask your friend - obviously she will say she wants to do them but with the travelling and distance see what her options are and take it from there? if in reality it isnt as doable as you originally thought then go to someone closer to location. you could always do your research in the mean time? covering all the bases? xx

You can get the boxes from the bay for transporting them. However that is a long distance to go trying to transport them. We only had to go to the other side of the Island and that was bad enough.

Yeah i agree with the other ladies, speak to your friend. My H2B's sister is making ours (i think there are 3 tiers to it) and she has a 6hr drive with 2 kids and a dog! There are ways around these things :)

Thank you for the replies girls. I am planning on asking my friend whether she has boxes for transportaion but wanted to know in my mind first whether it was feesible, as I know i'll find it hard to say no once i've asked her if you know what I mean. I think I will get some quotes from companies nearer the venue and see what/if they charge for delivery to the venue before I talk to my friend as that may be the sensible solution.

I would speak to your friend and see what she thinks and if she thinks she can do the travelling. My florist is the same, 1.5 hours from venue but a good friend and she was happy travelling so option was hers xxxx

to be honest a lady i know uses the muffin tins she baked them in to transport them in a large plastic box so if worse comes to worse you could do that depending how many tins she has! there are ways and means around it hun just bear in mind those that get a bit squished can go at the back

I bake cupcakes for events and what not and transporting them long distance can be a bit of a nightmare in the heat of summer! But to be honest, any professional will be fine with transporting them - I have often frozen myself in my car in order to stop that precious buttercream from melting! :)

It shouldn't be too much of a problem so long as they are kept flat - and whenever I do long distance orders, I always carry a box of fresh buttercream to make quick touch ups and I also carry about 12 spare cakes - just incase we have any...issues.

It is a December wedding so the heat won't be a problem - she'll just have to not have the heating on in the car!!! I'll ask about emergency buttercream too - thanks for the advice :-)
