I called around some other shops that sell the same one just to check the price was right (didn't want to find out someone else had got it loads cheaper lol) and I'm actually getting a brilliant deal on it, however one of the ladies kept going on about because I'm 5 ft 3 and a half I'd be better off having it made to measure rather then altered as it's a complicated dress to change the hem on and won't look as nice.
The lady I tried it on with had no worries about that, she did say it will take a long time as there is a lot to unpick and put back on, but she seemed confident about being able to do it.
What do you girls think? Should I worry about how the dress will turn out after being altered?
This is me in the dress so you can have an idea of how much it needs taking up (I wasn't stood on any boxes here)

No no no! Do not get it ordered shorter. Im 5"1' and was rold my dress is avalible at a shorter length (at a price)but likelyhood is that it will need to be altered to be the perfect length once you have you shoes etc. ladies in these shops have lots of experience dealing with these fancy needlework .they do it day in day out.

Your dress is beautiful :D I can see what she means about the hem though but if the lady in the shop seems confident she can alter it then I'm sure will look great. Would it cost a lot more to get it made to fit? xx

No don't order it shorter! My dress has a very similar bottom to yours and my dress lady is taking it up for me with no problems! I am 5 foot 4 so not much taller than you! What my lady did was tell me to have my shoes by the time my dress came in, then when it got into the shop I went to try it on and she is taking the length up now to give her plenty of time to do it, then the rest of my alterations will be done just before the wedding. If you have a good seamstress then it will look no different after it had been taken up! Also they don't take it up all the way around, they only take up the front so the train isn't even touched! Hope that helps a little xxx

you are paying for a service hun and if she thinks she can do it without any problems then get them to alter it, shorter lengths tend to come in too short when you put your shoes on.

Thanks ladies, you really have put my mind at rest :)
My lady didn't bat an eye-lid at having to do the alterations and even said she'll do them for free even though they're the more expensive ones (I think she could tell I loved the dress but it was slightly out of my budget)
I didn't like the sound of the other lady on the phone to be honest, but it was one of those things that just put a seed of doubt in my mind. This forum is a life saver :) thank you all again
