    Currently playing around with an idea but have no idea what a realistic cost is to be able to incorporate it into the budget so was hoping to get some advice from brides who have done a similar thing. (I am aware that the date of my wedding will make the cost more expensive but if I have a starting point I can triple it to give me a good idea.)
    There will be 7 under 10 and 3 10-13 year old children attending our wedding (ceremony, breakfast and reception) from 3pm until 1am, obviously this is a long day for little ones and they will get tired. As we have set the date for New Years Eve would like all my guests to stay to celebrate at midnight but I understand that the parents of little ones may feel they have to leave once their children start to get tired or try to get someone to come and collect and look after them (which will be difficult to organise given the date).
    I thought I could solve this issue by providing a chill out area for the little ones in the evening, where they can play games, colour, watch films and even sleep if needed. As a parent I am not keen on having strangers look after my child so planned on asking one of my lo's nursery workers to run this for me (fingers crossed they will else I have no other plan).
    Has anyone else done this sort of thing and was it worth it? How much did you pay for this kind of service? And should I ask more than one nursery worker to work for me on this night so that I can offer this service to my evening guests who have kids too (would be another 7 under 10's). TIA for any advice in this area

    I'm not sure about costs or anything like that, but just wanted to say I think it's a fab idea. It will be great for the kids to have a designated area to play, sleep or do whatever and it will also be appreciated by the parents - it would be nice to have your children there but not necessarily have to look after them all day!

    We have hired a downstairs room near to where the bar is for the kids. We are putting colouring, games, Xbox and dvds in there. The hotel has cost us £40 for the room. We aren't paying anyone to look after them so can't help you there. The older ones will be fine in there but the parents will have to keep an eye on their younger ones.

    I'm not sure on costs, but have a look around at services nearby and get a few quotes. I know we have a few companies that childcare for weddings.

    Fantastic idea and I'm a fully qualified nursery nurse (though I don't do it anymore, rubbish pay) and I'm sure if nearer the time or a year before you advertise at LOs nursery for carers, you would be surprised they will snap it up. You will have the reassure of the carers being suitable/CRB checked etc and also, your guests will be reassured at the fact that a qualified childcare worker will be watching them too...... As for costs, I'm not sure however 10 children at that age You may only need 1 or 2 carers at perhaps minimum wage!!

    No idea but sounds great. I would suggest more than one tho as I personally wouldn't be happy leaving my lo with one person to look after a lot of other kids

    This is a great idea, no idea on costs but I know my SIL did it for her wedding although she and her husband are loaded.

    Maybe you could have an area set aside in the main room with cushions etc where kids could congregate that way parents can still watch over them? Even if it's noisy if kids are tired they'll still sleep.

    The venue it's self is to small to provide a quite space for the kids but we are staying in the ajoining house which has 12 bedroom and a large lounge area and they are happy for us to use this for the kids to have a quite place to go. I've done a little research and there are mobile creche companies who ask for £120 for 2 hours which i feelis a bit steep plus i don't think i would be comfortable with strangers looking after them. I thought asking the nursary workers would be a good idea because my lo will go to the same nursery as my page boy and my flower girl attended the same nursary last year so at least 3 of the children (plus their parents) will know and be comfortable with the careers for the evening. Do you think if i budget £300 for two nursary workers to look after them for 4 hours would that be enough?

    I think that is plenty in fact £300 is the very maximum I'd want to pay.....

    Perhaps ask the carers at nursery and see what they would expect on NYE.

    If you think 2 people for 4 hrs at say £10 per hour = £80. So you could even say to them £20 an hour each for 4 hours and it still would be only £160...... Considering its NYE I'd do it for £20 per hour lol xxx

    I would maybe try with double the NMW, and go up to £15ph if needs be. Don't forget it's a wedding and it's costing you enough. No harming in bargaining because you're still offering a good wage. Start at double and go up as much as you need to. If I got told I was working for double pay on NYE I'd be over the moon! (Bar work, ALL staff essential!)
