The cake shops themselves usually let you taste them. We are having 4 tiers of different cakes (fruit, victoria sponge, lemon and chocolate)

People that make Wedding cakes usually do a tasting session, ours did anyway and I think It is the norm, after all, you wouldn't want to buy a car without test driving first so why would you choose a cake without tasting the cake makers ability?

You will be surprised the flavours out there too! We have a 3 tier cake that consists of Chocolate (with choc chunks in it), Vanilla and our top tier is banana and toffee!!

I had a wonderful cake consultation at my cake maker, we chose three flavours that we thought we would like and then she gave us three really beautiful cup cakes of the flavours to try :-) I feel cake consultations are so important,we went to one before the one we went with she plonked two dried peices of cake on the table for us to try, and then quoted over an hundred more than e really lovely cake place we went for, so trials and shopping around are so important x

Generally you wouldn't do a cake tasting til after you've picked someone,as we booked our cake woman a year ago, and we have our tasting after Easter.
Just do a bit of research into who's good and does a wide variety of flavours before parting with your deposit x

I went to a couple of wedding fayres and picked our lady from some that gave out samples, I've got to say we tasted her cakes a week apart at the wedding fayres, we will go back and finalise the four tier flavours nearer the time.

We did to to a cake tasting session In feb a woman that works from home. I would just email a couple of cake makers in your area and ask them if they do tasting sessions.

As others have said just get in touch with local cake makers or go along to wedding fairs. I just wouldn't recommend picking anyone prior to tasting - what if it's awful?!

We went with someone recommended that's why,we knew she was excellent, but I don't know of any that do cake tastings in my area,a few give out a sample of just plain sponge at fairs but don't know of any that will let u try all flavours, so you'll never get a full judge that's what I meant...

My mum is a cake artist and maker and when she goes to wedding fayres she always takes a selection of different cake flavours that she does, she also does further consultations and sampling privately and even does a selection of cake samples to give to a couple to take home and try so that they can decide on flavours over a few days.
I can't understand why people bring plain sponge to wedding fayres!!! It's gotta be a package deal, cant just have pretty cakes and then crap sponge!!

My mum's in Bedfordshire, so a slight drive from Norwich but i'm sure if you look around the internet for cake makers in your area or even in cake/icing shops you'll be able to find local people who offer what you're after.

Generally if you book consultations with cake makers/shops then part of the session involves sampling some flavours xxx
