well, my landlord has replied...
'Admittedly its somewhat of a grey area... The law states betterment where you would at least be responsible for a proportion of the costs based on the btah being in perfect working order before. I appreciate it was an accident however i am disappointed you dont feel it would be the right thing to accept responsibilty for the damage thats been caused. Do you have accidental damage on your insurance??'
Another text followed with:
'If your insurance isnt an option then ill set about getting the job arranged... no point delaying. Wouldnt want any water damage to compound the problem. Thanks'
What a d1c!....
My reply after consulting our export manager who is a landlord himself is going to be:
'Thanks, i appreciate yourcomments however, the nature of the damage is genuine wear and tear therefore the landlords responsibility to replace. I too would appreciate this to be completed as soon as possible as i agree with you, the last thing we want is any water damage'.
Im so upset
I could do without this!!!!

Pain in the backside when landlords are difficult about things like this! If you are a landlord you need to be prepared for things like this happening, instead of ducking and diving it and being awkward about the whole thing he should just be grateful it's not a bigger problem that would set him back even more!
It's not a "grey" area, it clearly states in your tenancy agreement that he is responsible.
Ive sent my reply and he has not come back to me yet...... Only time will tell lol

This is what makes me wish we had our own house! Yeah it would be a pain when things go wrong and the costs associated with that but at least you'd be able to just crack on with it yourself instead of going through all this nonsense!!

Gosh, Emma; that's a heck of a squirmy landlord you've got there! ((hugs)) if you want 'em - I learned from my time in student lets just how much landlords will try and wriggle their way out of what is actually their legal responsibility... ~sigh~
Man, all this shoe talk makes me want to go looking for some nice medieval-style boots to go with my dress - on which I'm just waiting for the woman I want to get it from to come back off holiday so I can go down to her studio to try on some samples and go over ideas (and find out if I can afford what I'd love!)...
Had a laugh with one of my work colleagues over the weekend about how he might end up doing some of the catering for our wedding - he's the in-house chef for where J and I both work, and also knows the head chef at our venue! Can't ask for a better reference for who's to do our food, can we, lol!
CommentAuthorEmmilou82
That sounds like a plan Magpie...... I've had my eye on those shoes since day 1 but you know what it's like, should I shouldn't I & I shouldn't have dos money is tight at the mo but, hey, I did it anyway and I'll deal with my money issues later lol.....
I've not heard anything more from the landlord but I'm not sure that's a good or bad thing!!! Oh well!!

Yep, that's how we've gone about getting the things we absolutely do not want to compromise on for the wedding - we're only planning on doing this the once, we're doing it now rather than wishing we had 10, 20, 30 years down the line, we can do about 75%+ of the decoration ourselves, and we can always try and beg some extra shifts at work to pay it off after... actually, that's kind of how J got these new shifts he's on at the mo!
Landlord-wise, I'm sure he'll be in touch when he's on the road to getting it sorted; if not, maybe check up in a few weeks.
CommentAuthorEmmilou82
I'm in that mindset magpie.... I'm only doing it once and so we want what we want... We aren't really doing anything DIY, we just don't have time so unfortunately (I think) our budget is quite large however, it's doable on OHs wage.....
We keep getting set backs of late but we WILL do it lol

Same here emmilou although I'd like to get rings soon. The saving is hard part. We try to put so much away each month but we have put away very little this month with new car
21st May 2016 xxx
CommentAuthorEmmilou82
Yeah, the rings are the next thing on our list to purchase so thats £1500 of our budget..... Saving isnt going as well as expected as things just keep setting us back but we are keeping our fingers crossed for a big job in September where OH will earn silly money and so we could potentially pay the wedding off in full in 4 months!!!
As i say though, fingers crossed it pulls off. The luck im having at the moment, isnt the best

Saving is definitely the hardest part! We tried to get big things sorted ASAP and got our rings back in January which was 17 months before the wedding, but one huge weight off our shoulders and one less thing to worry about nearer the time. We are definitely well on track but I always worry something is going to creep up and blow everything out of the water. Keen to save more than we actually need which I think we should do.

I'm thinking for both it will be about £800 so thinking it will be another big thing to get ticked off the list. just need to persuade my OH that it's a good idea. x
CommentAuthorMagpieBride
We paid the deposit on ours back in Feb, expect to hear back from the jeweller around Sept/Oct to say they're in (we're having a majorly custom design, plus internal inscription), gonna cost us just over £1000 total - and we're not getting married til next June, but for us they were one of the most important things along with getting the venue, photo/video, stuff like that.
If you have somewhere safe to store them, and can afford to get them now, then I would say do it - if only for peace of mind.
CommentAuthorDanielleS0709
Wedding rings is next on my list. We will just be putting a deposit down tho then paying them off. Will be getting jeweller to hang on to them until nearer the time. I just need to decide if I want plain or diamond!

We picked our rings and paid for them in full back in January this year, we get married next June. We spent about £800 in total so for us it was a massive weight off our shoulders.
