Your mum doesn't need to know everything you do and I'm sure she would understand you wanting to spread the cost to ease the pressure on yourself? My mum knows the big things we've done but she doesn't know some of the detail-y bits.

MOB and MIL are the hardest for us... thinking of getting them a photo with frame that says a thank you for them being part of our day and maybe a big bouquet of flowers each. Also thought about personalised trinket boxes, restaurant vouchers or spa vouchers xx

That's a nice idea :) I know a lot of people just get big bouquets of flowers .. Mil would probably like that but my mum would probably say it's a waste of money lol

Mum would probably prefer a family canvas from the wedding

I think I'm edging towards restaurant vouchers as it's something they can spend with their respective husbands/partners, same as for the dads (both sets of our parents are divorced and re-married/partnered)! Then it counts as a little gift for our step parents also xx

Not sure if oh is mad on the favour jar idea as mum suggests personalised chocolates on but the bags are 1.5kg and one bag costs £72 the jars I've found are 43ml which should hold about 45g so that only does 33 jars so would probably need at least two bags which is £120 or could get the third bag to have some on the candy Ferris wheel but that would be about £160 but like I told oh jars are only £30 for 100 so worst case scenario favours would only be £2 per person not going to get anything much cheaper!

We are hoping to buy my parents a weekend away as they have helped us out so much with the wedding. Obviously it depends on money and if we can get one that's not too expensive but if not we will get them something small for the day then pay for something for them once we are back from honeymoon. Not sure what we are going to get MIL, she hasn't helped us out at all with the wedding so we don't want to spend as much as we are on my parents, might just get her a voucher or some flowers or something xx

My parents are contributing more than the in-laws too but it feels wrong getting them something better/bigger! FIL and MIL are contributing all they can, but they don't have as much disposable income or savings as my mum and dad do, so it's not that they don't want to contribute more it's more the fact that they can't, which we totally appreciate and are grateful for everything they've done for us to date!! xx

My in laws have just told us to let them know when we want them to put money towards something but I'm not that type of person. I don't like asking; if they want to pay for something fair enough but I don't want to ask them to pay for anything. Mum already paid for my dress; she didn't give me a choice in the matter

I almost feel like his parents should at least pay half the wedding venue and for the suits and things becajse my oh won't have that sort of money and I shouldn't really have to pay for all his family to have a meal at my personal expense but I'm not asking. If they offer then I'll accept but no way am I asking .. How cheeky would that sound!

Becci - I am going with the favour jars as they work out so much cheaper all round and I think they look nice.
Again, you ladies are one step ahead, we've not thought about gifts for family yet. Both sets of parents are contributing - I kind of feel bad accepting the amount my parents are offering as said I didn't want to feel as though I was robbing them of their retirement savings. Dad initially wanted to pay 5k, but mum talked him down to 3k. My OH just got an 8k bonus from work before tax, so we're going to use what's left to pay a large chunk off the venue. Trying to keep the cost under 10k, but we've not factored in the honeymoon yet...!!

So majorly late to the convo here ladies, but I opened up all the threads I wanted to read from the forum, started reading this one, then had tl go find that one Nikki wrote to understand what you were all talking about lol. My question to her would be does she want a marriage or a ring and proposal story she can boast to everyone? When she said the ring she wanted was £300 cheaper, it sounded so ungrateful - my ring was a little over that "saving" in total. Ahh well, hope she gets it sorted and appreciates what her OH has done.

    Anyway.....

We paid off another chunk of the photographer last night which is great, especially as we have our engagement shoot in a few weeks time. Is anyone else having/had one done? I'm really worried it will end up looking so cheesy as I can't help but smile when I look at a camera. X

We had engagements photos done, I love them had them done outside in a lovely area with a waterfall etc

Ok so I went for my appointment with the florist today and he wasn't there!! Apparently he had to fetch family from the airport and their flight was delayed, not his fault but still disappointing. However they offer a fab package. Brides bouquet, 3 bridesmaids, mums corsages, men's buttonholes and either an arrangement for the alter or else 2 mums thank you bouquets for £300. I think that's fab. I told him to ring me during the week to discuss further

So we went for the bridesmaids appointment and I wish I didn't go. We seen a dress we really liked however I still LOVE the m0ns00n one and think I prefer it but they prefer this one BUT it's £250!! Double the price of the others so I don't think so!!!! As I said I still love the m0ns00n one but wish I didn't go as I know they prefer that one and don't want them thinking they aren't getting to wear the dress they want. But with 3 bridesmaids that's £750 b4 alterations. Why can't I just stick to my gut lol

On a better note I found out the date for my hen party today it's all organised and it's on 2nd April!

    Evening ladies!

I actually commented on Nikki's post asking if she was the lady who posted about a £5k wedding dress?! I actually can't even bring myself to talk about her.

We are paying for our wedding totally ourselves. My parents have both passed away and my inheritance from the sale of their house (which goes on the market Monday! Very bittersweet as both me and my 2 brothers were born in that house) will pay for it, so I suppose you could say my parents are paying for it! They won't need gifts though ;-) OH's parents are a nightmare... promise things and don't deliver, so we have decided to have no input from anyone. We're not having speeches and OH isn't even having a best man. The day is purely about me and him.

Today I booked appointments with a florist, cake maker and dressmaker. All for next week, as well as meeting the vicar! I have ordered a scoring board and few other bits from the bay to start making stationary.

Thank you Becci. Planning a wedding with no 'Mother of the Bride' or 'Father of the Bride' is tough. I know my parents would be proud of me though and would absolutely love the day we are planning. Have kept some of my Dad's ashes to scatter on my wedding day so he is part of it. The cottage on the estate we are having the reception is available for hire as a holiday let, so we will go back there every year on our anniversary and I will lay flowers where we scatter his ashes. Miss that man so much. He was my favourite person in the world. I am a very positive person though and am grateful for the important parts of my life he was able to share. Will be carrying a picture of them both on the day.
