I want to do one and have even started writing one! When I told OH I'd like to do one though he wasn't keen on the idea.. probably because it's not really traditional and he thinks I will just be saying everything that he's already said. I really want to thank people myself though and say my own little bit.. and also to say lovely things about OH (which I think might be the bit that wins him over hehe). I am seeing more and more brides making a speech these days though xx

Yeah that's what I thought. I will probably be too busy crying over my dad and OH speeches to even say anything anyway haha x

I'm not doing one but only because I'd get nervous and end up stuttering. We are only having a grooms speech at our wedding and my dad wants to say a few words. If I feel more confident about it nearer the time I definitely will. I think brides not making speeches is a tradition that's dying out, it it seems a bit old fashioned to me x

Mmm it's kind of like all the men can speak on behalf of the bride but the bride isn't entitled to speak herself.. because she is a woman lol. Definitely a tradition that is dying out xx

Yh I've never been to a wedding where the bride says anything, it's always groom, best man, and brides dad x

It definitely comes from when women weren't seen as equals and that's why it's dying out. I hope I do feel confident enough to say a few words at least x

I didn't make one. There aren't many traditions I follow, but that was one.

I think it's a nice idea the bride doing a speech however, I cry at the thought of walking down the aisle never mind speaking in public.... I'll leave that to tradition I think lol
I'm dreading the vows too (if that's what they are called) as I'm such an emotional person, I'm panicking about it already and I've 19 months to go yet

I know what you mean emmilou. I sometimes think how will I remember what the vicar has said to repeat it, or laugh when I'm looking at OH, or just crying the whole way through :-/

I want to do a speech because I've got some personal thank yous to do and it's the perfect opportunity to tell OH what I think of him (in a good way lol!). I'm also going to give him his wedding present at the same time :o)

I'm used to standing up and talking in front of lots of people as I volunteer for a greyhound walking charity and get to do the pre walk talk as walk leader. It wasn't so long ago that I would have run a mile if anybody had asked me to do such a thing though, so it's quite a big deal.

I did one as I wanted to just say thank you to everyone for coming and a special thank you to my uni girls who had put up with me crying on their shoulders so many times, helping me get through it all, I made one of them cry,

I could probably tell H2B who to thank, and write it down for him, and he'd still forget! I think he's quite nervous about doing a speech.

I want to do one. First, I have to personally thank our parents for everything they have done for us. Second, my guests are most of them Brazilians, so I need to thank them all in Portuguese lol

I'm not doing one as I'm not a big public speaker! If I wanted to though I wouldn't be scared of doing it to be different, speeches just aren't my thing! Hats off to those brides going for it :)

I keep going back and forth on this!!! I've written my own vows which probably are a bit speechy but was thinking I'd forgo talking after. The raging feminist in me feels like I should be talking just to break the tradition of men speaking for the bride… but I also want to enjoy my drinks and not worry about it.
