Wedding Forum - Bride speeches *********...

Are you doing a speech at your wedding or is this an American thing? X

Yeah that's what I thought. I will probably be too busy crying over my dad and OH speeches to even say anything anyway haha x

Mmm it's kind of like all the men can speak on behalf of the bride but the bride isn't entitled to speak herself.. because she is a woman lol. Definitely a tradition that is dying out xx

It definitely comes from when women weren't seen as equals and that's why it's dying out. I hope I do feel confident enough to say a few words at least x

im doing one, no one can stop me. also my mums doing fob speech and my moh is doing one. equality.

I know what you mean emmilou. I sometimes think how will I remember what the vicar has said to repeat it, or laugh when I'm looking at OH, or just crying the whole way through :-/

I want to do a speech because I've got some personal thank yous to do and it's the perfect opportunity to tell OH what I think of him (in a good way lol!). I'm also going to give him his wedding present at the same time :o)

I'm used to standing up and talking in front of lots of people as I volunteer for a greyhound walking charity and get to do the pre walk talk as walk leader. It wasn't so long ago that I would have run a mile if anybody had asked me to do such a thing though, so it's quite a big deal.

I did one as I wanted to just say thank you to everyone for coming and a special thank you to my uni girls who had put up with me crying on their shoulders so many times, helping me get through it all, I made one of them cry,

I could probably tell H2B who to thank, and write it down for him, and he'd still forget! I think he's quite nervous about doing a speech.

I'm not doing one as I'm not a big public speaker! If I wanted to though I wouldn't be scared of doing it to be different, speeches just aren't my thing! Hats off to those brides going for it :)
