Hi fellow brides to be! Just wanting your opinions. My wedding is on a very tight budget and I'm debating on sending save the dates. I am having a June wedding so I think it's good to give guests notice in case of holidays etc. However I'm wondering if it's an unnecessary expense. Are you all sending them? Thanks, Vanessa :)

Hello Vanessa welcome to uk bride. We sent them out but only due to having our wedding in Kefalonia in 2015 so thought it was needed for people to be aware of plans and to start saving. Hope this helps.

    Good luck with planning

    Meg xx

    Hi Vanessa

I'm sending them out just to make sure people have plenty of notice but I've just made them myself just using a design printed on normal paper with a card backing in my colour scheme. I'll be able to hand deliver most of them so I'll save on postage and I recon I'll have spent about £10 in total. I don't think they are vital but if you want to do them, you can do them nicely on a budget.

    Hope that helps! :-)

    Hey!

I'm going to send them, but only to my day guests (which is barely any).... and I'm also making them myself! Considering I'm not very crafty - it may all go very wrong, but at least I'm trying!! x

    Hello,

I didn't send save the dates. Because of this I sent my wedding invites 6 months prior to the wedding.

Rinny, I made my invites my self. 44 for the day and then a further 60 for the evening.. It was very stressful and time consuming (and had a bad back each morning after) but it was worth it.. all the compliments I have had on how personal and pretty there were made it all worth doing. :D

    Xxx

We sent Save the Dates that I made and sent them to day and evening guests. The reason we sent them was because we get married on a Bank Holiday weekend also, I work in a school and the week after is a half term too.

Hi- I am not sending Save the Dates because most people coming to the day reception are family and already know the date. I will have the invitations ready for sending out in Jan/ Feb for the August though. I do not have the budget nor see the need to tell people who already know they are invited that they are invited. I have chosen just to mention by word of mouth especially to evening guests who are friends- I have had my wedding booked for so long that anyone who knows me knows when it is!

    It was very stressful.

Both my bridesmaids and my partner offered to help which I declined on the basis that if they did anything wrong ( I know they would have purposely done it) then I would have felt they ruined it and if I did them wrong I would only have my self to blame.

I did the invites most evenings and took around 4 weeks in total. Don't give up if they start to stress you as they really are worth it. :D

    Good Luck Rinny!

    xx

That sounds a similar amount to which I need to make lol. I have been doing bits here and there so they don't annoy me or stress me out.

I did a few bits here and there but in the end just wanted them done so sat down for 3 hours to finish them.

I would suggest that you stick to little bits here and there unless you are very patient :)

I haven't done anything on them for ages. We will probably send them November time but have done as much as I can I think until October as we need to confirm the choices for our menu with our venue which we will do October half term hopefully.

That's ok then. Maybe having the break between what you have already done and what you are going to do after October will help. :)

I am sure they will look amazing when they are done :)

I sent them as same as you summer wedding holidays etc but i got mine off Vistaprint and they were great, and magnets so im on everyones fridge now! No loosing it! I ordered 50 and they were £20 delivered to me, bargain! only the postage was 50p each for second class which cost me another £20, but i could stomach that cost so far before the wedding

Thank you all so much. I think I will experiment with making them, but I'm going to take a leaf out of MrsCross2be's wedding book and not send to the immediate family as they know when it is! :)

When H2B and I got engaged and decided on a date it got spread around the family very easily and I told my friends long before the invites went out. I'm on a budget too so I decided against the Save the Date idea. I made my invites and sent them out four months before.

Everybody who is coming to the wedding already knows the date and have confirmed their attendance. However, we'll probably do Save The Date cards for those only attending the evening reception.

we sent an email save the date, had a link to a wedding website h2b made....
had a countdown til the wedding day on it
    the wedding date obviously lol
as we don't live near any of our families and getting married a bank hol weekend, it had things to do and places to stay where we live.
directions and all other info like that on it...
sounds geeky and I thought it was but the relatives thought it was a good idea, and are planning on what they are going to do while they are up here :)

We created ours as if they we're going to be printed... Then saved them as a PDF and emailed them. As far as stationery is concerned this is a non essential item. Most people will bin them anyway and just put the date in their calendars... Invites and "on the day" stationery is more important. People generally are happy with a text, e-mail, call or face to. Face chat.

We've sent them. Although we've let everyone know by word of mouth/email, people forget, and we thought a physical reminder might make people less likely to forget lol. Ours is on a Saturday in August, and a few of our guests have children/work at schools and so holiday at that time of year, so we wanted to give plenty of notice so that they don't book holidays then.

    Hi all,

I'm thinking of sending out our save the dates in the next couple of months, do you think it would be ok to attach a note to say something like ' please let us know if you are unable to attend, so we do not send you an invite' can't quite think how to word it?

I think it depends on when in the year your wedding it is, if it's during a holiday people need more notice not to book holidays, also if your having a midweek wedding they need more notice to get the time of work.
I'm having mine in both, first week of summer holidays and on a Tuesday to sent out my save the dates 18 months before and in sending out my official invites 6 months prior with RSVP being 3 months before which is when we will send evening invites and bump this who who can be due to thos unable to attend with out knowing they have been bumped and give me ample time to chase late rsvp's with out getting to stressed.
