Gemma, try hebridean heather. It's a softer coloured tartan with a little red and a hue of blue which is very subtle but might work.

Have you went into any kilt hire shops to have a look at them. Now that I have my BM dress sorted we will decide on the tartan but its more than likely going to be Scotland forever.

This is where my head hangs in shame, I cant think of many castles in Scotland.
Only ones off the top of my head are Edinburgh, Stirling and Culzean castles.
