my sister in law recently posted a picture on facebook of the outfit she is planning on buying for my wedding day, it is beautiful but im worried she is trying to fit in to the bridal party as the dress she has chosen is very simlilar to the bridesmaid dresses im having and she wants it in the same colour as my colour scheme and she also wants her husband and two sons in matching colour ties.

I think the dress she has chosen is a bit over the top to wear to a wedding. I get wheres she coming from with the colour as every wedding she has attended herself her husband thier two sons and two daughters go in matching colours but theyve always just been guests so its fine and they aint the same colour as the colour scheme but at my wedding her two daughters are my bridesmaids so it is different and i dont think she should match.

Am i over reacting or should i say i dont really want her in the same colour as my colour scheme and for her to change her dress?

If it was me I would let it go as she is your H2bs sister and its not really worth arguing over. She just wants to feel 'included or something' as its her brothers special day.

I would be hacked off if my Sil's wore the same colour as my BM though but its not worth saying anything to them.

Thanks for the advice :) even though it did get to me a little I did say to my h2b just to let it go as it could cause arguments but I think he is still going to have a word as he thinks she shouldn't wear that colour or that dress and if his other two sister can respect it why cant she especially as he has her two daughters involved.

I would also just let it go, when I showed my SIL the dresses I was planning on getting the flower girls (her daughters) she said "I'll get the boys (her sons) matching ties". It annoyed me at the time but now I couldn't care less.

I agree, let it go, she'll only make herself look silly, your guests will know who is and isn't a bridesmaid and I do think she probably is just trying to feel included in the day.

Try not to let it bother you, there's bigger more important things about your wedding day that you need to focus your energy and attention on x

I also agree on the not worrying about it. I'm sure on the day you won't even notice.
As for the boys wearing a matching tie to the bridesmaids, I think it's probably only fair that they feel like they're the same as their , especially if she usually makes them match at weddings. They are only children and it's not really fair if they ask why they aren't, to turn around and say because they're bridesmaids and you aren't anything special in this wedding.

Just let her get on with it, as long as she doesn't try causing trouble for you either on the day or on the run up it really doesn't matter what she wears, at least she hasn't picked out a long ivory dress

I wouldn't worry about it too much. My sister is an usher and wants to wear a dress that fits in with the colour scheme, and her boyfriend will wear a teal coloured tie. I actually thought it was nice that she was trying to fit in. She's sent me the link to the dress she's found for me to approve :o)

I would only say something if it's really inapproriate i.e. too short

At the end of the day, if she goes in that outfit and people know she is not part of the bridal party, who is going to look the silly one???

I went to a wedding where the mother of the groom wore a long evening dress in the wedding colour, and really looked like a bridesmaid. However I just thought what an awful choice of outfit, you're showing yourself up. I don't think it will matter.

iv had a similar problem with my SIL including her going to where we've got the suits from and going behind our backs and hiring the exact same suit and the same tie etc etc for her son even though he's not been asked to be apart of the wedding party, i was angry but now I'm just letting it go over my head and just letting her get on with it. like others have said above she will be the one who looks silly on the day!
    xx

Normally the mothers are supposed to blend with the bridal party but not your sister... I think you should casually see if she can choose another colour first x

Perhaps you'll have to take it as a compliment that they want to fit in..? And at least she's making an effort for your big day (we had some cousins who looked like they had made zero effort at all on the wardrobe front & one of them wore a short, tight ivory dress)

To be honest this probably would've ignored me a few months ago but now I agree with other comments that it may be best to let it go. If anything people will think she is silly for trying to fit in, I don't think it will reflect badly on your wedding day overall
