I purchased my wedding dress Ronald Joyce "Love" in a sale and it was a size 16/18 I have since come to realise that I have lost too much weight and need it taken in to about a size 12/14. I cant take it to a bridal shop as its no longer open. Can a seamstress alter it to fit me? I dont want to get a new dress as I am in love with it.
    thanks ladies x

I've been told by every bridal store that dresses can be taken in by up to 3 dress sizes so you should be ok but check with seamstresses :) xx

I'm not sure how much they can take it in, but what Catherine said sounds about right. I've seen bridal shops say about not worrying about buying bigger dresses in the sale as they can be altered. I think that's why a lot of bridal shops stock the size 16-18 as they can be pulled in if your smaller.

I'm not sure what they do if your a bigger size... do they use the modesty panels for trying them on before ordering or does that then stem into ''plus-size''

My friend bought a wedding dress in a 16/18 and shes a tiny 8. You couldn't tell. Also try ringing around local bridal shops because some shops will take in other dresses, just explain that the shop you originally bought from has unfortunately closed xx

I agree with the others about sizing. I would personally recommend looking on gumtr33 or somewhere similar for details of a local seamstress. They're MUCH cheaper than going through the bridal stores, and there are plenty of them out there that will do bridal work. Let us know how you get on, as I will be doing the same with my sample dress next year :)

My dress has come in a size 22 in order to get the depth over my boobs (32j) as advised by the bridal shop! So when I tried it on last month it fell off me as I'm a 14 :-) the shop don't see this as a problem so there's no reason a good seamstress can't take yours in for you.
    Xx

My seamstress took my dress from a size 20 to a 12/14 and she is amazing! A good seamstress can do anything! x

Catherine - youre right - you think they would! When I was trying on the dress before ordering it, it was a 12 - fit lovely except only just covered my nipples! would have looked like Jordan on the day! haha
