Ohhh gosh, I really really did. Ha. They are estimating...ready for this....sitting down??? £1500. for 80 people. How is that even possible?! We're allowed to source our own liquor too so I'm looking into that but it seems I can only cut it down by a few hundred quid. They say they always overestimate the bottles needed and that at the end they return the cost of any unopened bottles...

So it is either spend £1200 and source it all ourselves and any unused liquor, we use to throw a big ol' after party when we come back from St Vincents..... OR spend the £1500 and hopefully get a lot back in buy backs....

Is it just me, or does that seem like a LOT of drinks for 80 people (60 for wedding bfast and 80 for reception)....

Thanks KelBel. Worth considering. Their vodka is £20 per bottle and I can get the same bottle wholesale for £11. Save £100 on 10 bottles.

On a totally different note, I've been so stressed with work and planning and life that last night I fell asleep really early. I woke up to an email from Ryan that just said "I love you" with a photo attached. Right after he proposed he took a photo of the spot so we would remember. Last night he stayed up and played with the photo...sent me this:

There is a corkage fee of £600... which i don't think is too bad for £80? I find the whole process so confusing. I don't have to decide until January 2015 so I'm just going to ignore it for now and focus on the fun stuff!!!

I have booked a tentative tasting with Sophisticake for next month...Ryan and I will travel up to her. (as if he would miss out on cake). So far she has been AMAZING to work with. I sent her a list of some flavours we like and she is working on some new recipes for us as we both hate chocolate cake. Besides making me feel like we are going to have the best cake ever (the day before we won this contest we had no cake budget at all), she is also just so fun to talk with! She seems just as excited about our wedding as we are, which is just incredible...especially when it is a prize win and we're aren't paying her. It just seems like she genuinely loves what she does and loves sharing it with others!!! i will let you know what flavours we end up tasting and what we choose (and snap a few cheeky photos as well!)

Also scheduled my dress appointment with Eternity Bridal for June! Now I just need to get myself in shape!!!

I realised I go to Eternity Bridal to try on dresses in about 12 weeks this morning..so naturally booked it to the gym as fast as I could. I did 5 miles on the elliptical before feeling sure I was going to die...

Anyone else feel like the pressure to lose weight for the wedding is slightly insane? Not saying I'm not going to do it, mind you...just thinking about how silly it is. The fiancé loves me the way I am, and yet here I am...sprawled out on my couch eating low fat cottage cheese and a cut up banana for lunch after that 5 mile run, stressing over whether to have a piece of toast.

Would much rather be having 3 spicy tuna rolls and a cocktail.

I started dieting when I got engaged, but I was slightly overweight. I'm now a healthy weight, but still definitely wanting to watch what I eat between now and the wedding. It's more about toning now, particularly the upper arms as my dress is sleeveless, and I don't really want to wear a bolero or pashmina.

Mrs T 2 Be, definitely good advice and I know that Wedding Dresses are kind of magic when it comes to be flattering...I think I'm most worried about my arms. I would be really happy just losing 2 stone and toning up, but the pressure to do it (along with the financial pressure of the wedding) is just making me stress eat!

The arms, Elinor Claire. I really do hear you on the arms! I'm thinking, I really really want to try and hit the gym before work from now on. An hour in the mornings on the elliptical...knock out 5 miles and do some core work to start my day... Just don't know if I am someone who can wake up at 6:30 and hit the gym. Not anymore! I used to do it all the time in uni, but now that I'm 30 I seem to need about 8.5 hours to function!

I'm certainly not someone who can get up early. When I was a music student I was in college at 7:30 am to practice, even if I didn't have classes until the afternoon. Now my alarm goes off and I tell it where to go. I can't practice at home early anyway as other people are still asleep. Exercise tends to happen last thing at night for me, I'm much more a night owl these days (although even then not as much as I was). When I was in my twenties I never dreamed that by age 31 I'd see such a difference in how much sleep I need.

Today i got my M&S gift card for £500 in the mail!!! So excited!!! I'm going to spend a fair bit on lingerie and the like, but hold on to most of it...I have a feeling we'll want it for treats for the two of us..like wine or special meals. Especially closer to the wedding when we are being super budget conscious!

This gift is absolutely fab!!! If you have £500 to spend at M&S, what would you buy???

Thanks soooo much everyone!!!! I think I'll definitely get a few little lingerie pieces and then perhaps the bridal party gifts/wedding favours!!! Would be amazing if I could use that gift card to save a little money as this wedding is still costing a pretty penny!!!

Heard from Aurus today to let me know that the wedding band and the setting for my engagement ring was in!!!! About a week earlier than expected! I have to say, they have been FABULOUS. I would recommend them to anyone. I was so nervous about getting my engagement ring reset and they were so incredibly patient! Ry dropped off my old ring so they can move the diamonds over to the new one...and they said I'll have it by the end of the week!!! Seriously, so impressed with this place! I'll definitely post a picture when I pick them up.

Still waiting to hear on the shoes, bridesmaid dresses, bridal bouquet and photography...I'll post more info on those when I have it!

Your rings are stunning! Really lovely (though I might be biased as I'm a cluster girl myself lol ;-) ) Your honeymoon looks amazing too!

Re the drinks: it depends on your guests and how much they drink. If I were organising an all-day event I'd probably be allowing at least 1.5 bottles of wine pp for the wine drinkers, and 10-12 lagers for the lager drinks, plus champagne for the toast (with 60 guests you'll be looking at about 12 bottles), plus spirits, plus mixers and soft drinks. We've done a few parties and at one we spent around £500 on alcohol for 50 guests over 5 hours, which included cocktail ingredients, champagne for the toast, and very limited beer and wine; at a bigger party we had 80 guests over 4 hours and spent about £600. Both times we got offers at the supermarket (eg £13.50 for a litre of spirits; 40% of wine/champagne), which kept costs right down. So £1500 doesn't sound TOO unreasonable to me if the venue is getting the drinks in. It's always best to over-cater as you don't want to run out.

Also FWIW we have practically identical numbers to you (around 60 for the day and 90 for the evening) and our alcohol spend is about £4750; and we're not having an open bar.

Thanks All!!! I loooove them so much!

Barbie, really interesting on the drinks!! We are able to source the liquor ourselves too. I found the same prosecco for 6.66 per bottle instead of the 8.99 they are getting it in for so I'll do that. It'll save us about £150. The vodka/rum (only two spirits we are stocking) are the pretty expensive £20 and £25 respectively for 70 cl. Perhaps I will keep an eye out for some deals in the supermarket! £4750!?!?! oh my!!! What are you BUYING lol

Side note, REALLY excited because just found out a coworkers aunt is a florist here in London!!! I have been praying I would find some fantastic random connection to less expensive flowers and WAHEY! Her website doesn't show much of her work, but my coworker showed me photos and OMG I was floooooored by the designs. I sent her over an email detailing what we want and our budget (seems low for London at £500) and just praying she will do it as a favour to her niece! I'll let you all know what she says!

Fiancé has a major audition today...keeping fingers crossed

We're not bringing our own for the wedding; the venue doesn't allow it. So that figure includes 2 glasses of buck's fizz, 1/2 bottle of wine (or 2 bottles of lager or cider) and a glass of champagne pp, plus water, for our 60 days guests, and then £2500 behind the bar for the evening which should *hopefully* go quite a long way.

Re wine/drinks prices: a lot of the big supermarkets do deals for 25% off when you buy 6 bottles or more around Christmas, so if you can hold off until then that's what I would do. We try to do this when we have parties and you can get a decent bottle for around £4, and champagne for around £11. Likewise, they usually do deals for 2 for £20 on spirits at that time, or 1l bottles for £15. So, keep an eye out!

Good luck with the flowers, that's great news! Keep us posted!

I think £2500 should def go a long way behind the bar! And amazing tips on the supermarket deals!! Especially since we have a little over a year to collect liquor!

Side note, I see sooo many people responding to the UKBride Facebook posts about the wedding competition saying that it is fake! I seriously wish I could respond to all of them. This win has just been so amazing and while I'm having to do a bit of chasing with some of the suppliers, this whole thing is like a dream. We had no real budget. I had been crying in bed the night before I got the call because I thought we would have to just sack the whole idea and get married at the register's office. The contest is amazing, and though we are still having to cover the big expense of catering/venue, we are going to have the wedding we dreamed about because of everyone UKBride! It has made our wedding possible and magical and I am so grateful.

    Rant over. :)

So I went to Fulham Palace's wedding fair on Sunday...and left just feeling so beyond excited to get married there I can't even tell you. I just feel so happy that we found it. Ryan accompanied me and was one of very few grooms there, but with none of my family in the UK, he was definitely not getting out it! (I think he secretly really enjoyed it though. There was a lot of cake to taste!)

The most important bit though, was that we ended up chatting with the most FABULOUS florist. She was so patient with us (I was a bit over excited) and we talked through..well I talked through (ryan was lucky to get a word in)...what we wanted. I mentioned the tight budget and she IMMEDIATELY started throwing out flexible ways to work within a smaller budget and ways to do things for the ceremony that can be moved to other rooms, etc. I get the feeling that even with our small budget, we are going to have flowers that add feeling and atmosphere to the rooms. AND she mentioned having tons of battery operated tea lights (can't use real ones in the venue) and jars and such...said she would be happy to provide those as she has them already without charging us. She will only charge for the flowers.

Absolutely AMAZING and located relatively near to our venue..she's just out in Surrey. Going to definitely use her I think! I'll post a link to her page on my profile...if you are anywhere near, I'd definitely recommend reaching out to her. I feel like the florists i've talked to in the past haven't been that flexible..this was a shocker!!

Thanks everyone! He's sooo lovely. We are thrilled..it has been the luckiest year. I TOTALLY want him to be in the wedding but my niece is really allergic so he will probably need to be at my MIL's place hanging with her dog for the day. :(

Got my shipment from Sienna-X yesterday...applied their Gradual tan and the H2B is very jealous lol (pretty sure I'm going to walk in on him trying it out himself) So far I loooove it. I have naturally pretty dry skin (eczema as a kid and it lingers sometimes) but this stuff has made my skin feel really soft which was an unexpected bonus! They sent half of the stuff now and are going to send the other half closer to the wedding ( the half is sooo much stuff though..I doubt I'll be done with it by next april!)

Also scheduled my appointment for my spray tan 'fitting' and pre-wedding spray tan... It is the first actual wedding appointment I've made! So crazy! Time really is flying by...Soon it'll just be a year to go. My sis (MOH) and best friend get to come along to the bridal appointment and get tans as well..I'm curious to see how this works out! lol I'm super pale but my sister is literally a carbon copy of snow white. Black hair..white skin. I told her she doesn't HAVE to get the spray tan, but she really wants to!

H2B is going to look really pale at the alter.... lol

Thought I'd show my first try at self-tanning! Not too shabby! Pretty streak free for the most part. I only have tried one of the projects so far but is seemed really moisturising which was a nice surprise!!!

wow I love this thread :) I've seen the competition running for ages but was always a little dubious about how genuine it is. It does seem pretty fabulous though!!! Not sure how much good it would do us though - we're both pretty creative and so are making alot of the details ourselves, and though it started out as a way to try and save money I now want to do it as it'll be more to keep and memories made etc. Can't wait to see what else you have to show though - so exciting! :)

Sooo today I had my appointment with Aruna Seth. I was originally not going to be given a choice of shoe, but because of my big ol' feet (and a really nice sales guy) I got to try some different options. Pictures of the two top runners attached...

The thing is..I don't have my dress yet. I've not gone to Eternity Bridal. I'm not heading up there until June and I'm concerned my dress won't match the shoes colourwise! I like a few dresses and they are white, ivory, and gold respectively... Not sure what to do about the shoes. Ryan has suggested trying to see if they will do the shoes in blue so as not to end up with white shoes and an ivory dress.

What do people think? I'm not sure I'll be able to get them in blue (I feel a bit ridiculous requesting more options when it is a free prize!)

    Thoughts!?!!?

I love (and always have loved) the butterfly shoes and I know for a fact they come in blue. At the end of the day what's the worst could happen, they say no and you go with ivory and get them dyed blue - there are lots of really good companies out there that could do it for you

Hey Sonya! They DO come in blue, but that's not one of the options for the prize from Aruna Seth... dying them is probably a good call tho! I hadn't thought of that!!!!

I was leaning towards the bow ones just because I love the detail up the back but your suggestion is super helpful!

No harm in asking about the blue though
