Lights, camera, action...
Wedding videography is now a de facto part of your big day, with photographs providing an excellent ‘on your desk at work’ memory of the occasion but videography is unsurpassed as an aide memoire for your wedding.
Rather than a straightforward linear recording of events, videography combines stills and video imagery as well as your chosen music and a number of special effects like wipes and transitions, so that, years down the line, you’re able to hear your vows again & again and see the moment when you exchanged rings and sealed your vows with the immortal kiss that bound you together forever.
When considering whom to take on as your videographer, be sure to discuss camera formats – 8mm, Hi-8 and SVHS are common formats but for best results you should arguably be seeking a broadcast quality videographer working on digital equipment. Also, ensure you’ll end up with a DVD rather than VHS recording, since the latter is all but obsolete now, and will certainly be so in the future.
Don’t forget that new copyright laws put the onus upon you to obtain permission to reproduce the artistic rights of your wedding video elements – your treasured songs, and even your wedding vows are all subject to copyright laws.
Finally, discuss your position regarding the editing of your video and how much time will be spent on it in post-production, and ensure you’re clear as to how many cameras and what lighting equipment will be used at your wedding so that you can ascertain the quality of your final product.
