Stationery

Wedding stationery tends to be hugely undervalued, but a classy invite can make your wedding extra special, especially when you keep the invitation as a souvenir.
Usually a vellum stock of card is used and lettering is kept serifed and feminine but variations on this theme are imaginative and luxurious. A stark white stock of paper as a folded invitation tied with silk can look very romantic, while a lighter stock of card decorated utilising materials or textures like silk or an embossed effect demonstrates real imagination.

Design houses can custom make your invitations with little difference in cost. Invitations can be a collage of the bride and grooms’ favourite singers, film stars and works of art, or of the couple’s venue, all designed professionally complete with the graphics supplied by the couple and with the lettering professionally typeset for a completely custom design.

Because wedding stationery is so specialised and because details sometimes come together at the last minute, contacting your chosen stationer early is essential, and as the planning of the event progresses, you may think of other things you need in this respect, such as directions to the venue to be sent out with the invitations, or place cards. A quality stationer will be only too happy to sit down and discuss these requirements throughout your planning.

Favours

The gratitude that many brides and grooms feel in the way their guests are so delighted to share in their happy day can be overwhelming, so a small table favour is an excellent and very pretty way of thanking them for attending and can be chosen to really enhance the look of your table, especially when matched to your overall scheme.

It used to be the case that favours were no more than sugared almonds, but with companies offering a huge number of individual ideas, from wedding bubbles and favour boxes for sweets, and almonds with cracker favours for you to fill with your own gifts to flower favours and alcohol miniatures, you’re now restricted only by your imagination!

When choosing favours, do try to ensure that they’re personalised with your guests’ names on them, as this will allow them to serve as place cards, and ensure that younger guests also have favours suitable for them – children tend to dislike sugared almonds these days, and whisky miniatures too!

If you’re opting for the traditional touch note that five almonds are preferred in favour boxes – as these represent health, wealth, happiness, fertility and long life respectively, and if keeping to tradition really isn’t your thing, then why not borrow ideas from other cultures? In China, fortune cookies are traditionally offered at weddings, with slips of paper within, containing charms or fortunes, as well as a personal note thanking the guest for their attending.

Finally, when thinking about your table favours, consider giving guests disposable cameras at your table (and make sure these have built in flashes!) – you can’t be everywhere at once on your big day, but ensuring your guests can capture the moment for you means you’re more likely to have a complete aide memoire of your big day!
