Wedding Cars, Car Hire and Transport

We've been chatting to Andrew who has some fantastic anecdotes from his 11 years in the wedding chauffeur industry, to discover how to find the perfect wedding cars...

There are hundreds of wedding transport services around the UK, some big and some small. Choosing one which local to you normally results in the service being more personal, and it may help to keep the costs down.

When hiring wedding cars, make sure you have a good look at it before putting down the deposit. "You need to look at the car," says Andrew. "seeing is believing and all that, but it is so true. The cars look so different in reality to what they look like in the brochure. We often get a lot of people saying that they didn't realise how big the car was going to be." The car hire company is unlikely to show the scratches and dents in the brochure.

Furthermore, if you are borrowing a car from a friend be sure to have it valeted before the wedding day. You don't want your big entrance ruined by an old tissue that had been stuffed down the side.

Local services are often a more personal and cheaper option.

Booking in advance is vital to getting the car you want. If your husband to be has his heart set on a cream 1936 Rolls Royce you'll need to book from 12-18 months in ahead of the wedding. "We once had a call at 7 in the morning from somebody needing a car for that afternoon. Luckily we could cater for the couple, but that has never happened before."

Andrew often tries to give the couple a bit of time to themselves. "Obviously the wedding day is going to be hectic, and often the couple may want a few moments alone together. We often take them for a drive for 15 minutes or so, just to give them a respite." When booking a car for your wedding day, ask if they offer this extra, even if you don't use it, having an optional bolt hole may give you some peace of mind.

Finally, take the size and shape of your wedding dress into account when choosing your transport. Large dresses crumple in the back of smaller executive cars, so you'll have more room move in a limo, whilst slim-fitting column dresses are slightly more restrictive when climbing out of a more-elevated carriage.

Whatever car you choose to whisk you off to the church, you around for the day just make sure that it is right for you. This is your day, so make it perfect.
