Wasted Wedding Dresses?

Are you curious to find out the story behind deserted wedding dresses? Read on as we discover the secret life of the unworn gowns which are to play a starring role in a unique new documentary to be screened on Channel 4...

Have you ever wondered what happened to all those wasted wedding dresses worn by Julia Roberts in the hit film Runaway Bride?

Renowned for jilting a string of suitors at the altar, the film follows spirited character Maggie Carpenter as she pursues five different men in her bid to be married. Ultimately she finds happiness with reporter Ike Graham (Richard Gere) but one question the film fails to resolve is... what happened to all those unworn dresses?

London based TV documentary company Minnow Films are currently developing a documentary for the First Cut strand on Channel 4 about the stories behind wedding dresses that remain unworn. The film will explore some of the stories behind wedding gowns that are sold ‘unworn’ online.

There are a number of reasons why this may be the case — it could be that the relationship has broken down, it could be that in this economic climate that the wedding has been postponed, it could be that the dress no longer fits, because there’s a baby on the way or just because the bride to be has found another dress.

Kate Griffiths, a producer from Minnow Films, is looking to speak to UKbride members from across the country who have wedding dresses that they have not worn; perhaps because the wedding was cancelled due to bereavement or break-up or because they have bought the dress already... but just haven’t found the right man yet!

Whether you have had your dress for two months or 20 years, Kate is keen to hear your story. If you or someone you know has an unworn wedding dress Kate would be very grateful to speak to you as part of her research.

Don’t let that abandoned dress hide in the back of the wardrobe forever — share your story! Contact Kate directly at [email protected] or on 020 75661450.
